Most of the activities are game-oriented, so this is a fun outlet for kids to explore outside of the music classroom. Students can learn about the instruments of the orchestra, famous musicians and soloists, and popular composers. One thing to note is that the descriptions are rather text-heavy. Therefore, this site would be appropriate for an older elementary student or middle schooler as far as reading readiness is concerned.

With new videos posted each week there is an abundance of information available to any music teachers. This site could be useful with navigating which software to use for certain projects or discovering what technologies are available. The channel's owner is not based in Australia and may make some references to grade level that are not familiar to teachers in other countries.

Pro Tools is often praised for its near-limitless capabilities, but its high cost and memory and processing requirements may make it difficult to use for teachers or hobbyists with lesser computer systems. Avid offers different versions of the software that ranges from the free, limited capability Pro Tools "First" to the full-featured Pro Tools Ultimate, which is designed for professional recording and processing. The free version, Pro Tools First is an excellent way for new users to try out professional DAW software without making a large financial commitment.

Understanding by Design Framework is an essential resource when writing and creating curriculum, assessment, and instruction. The stages are explained as well as examples given for each stage. Questions are also asked/given at the end of the article and other resources are listed as well.

This is a fun listening game in the form of Tetris. This game is designed to enhance the audiation skills in students by helping them identify instruments based on their unique sounds. There are three levels of difficulty for students to play. Each instrument that descends is accompanied by its innate musical sound. In the first level, students must match instruments according to their family. In the second level, students must match instruments with identical instruments. On the third level, the most challenging level, students must match instruments with identical instruments, but the icon of each instrument is blacked out. In other words, students must rely solely on their ears to hear and categorize each instrument's unique sound.

The Music Educators Toolbox was created by music teachers and musicians through Carnegie Hall. It has lesson plans, videos, activities, and other resources that are categorized by grade level and also by concept. You can view the lesson plans and also watch videos of the lessons being taught. This is a great resource for lesson plans that meet the national standards.

While primarily geared towards elementary level students, some of the activities found on this website would also be helpful for beginning band classes. These can be used during those first couple of weeks when students are still trying to decide what to play and how they are going to acquire an instrument.
