Real Book Site - Jazz Music Education - 0 views

Jazz sheet music education, free (with no ads) for anyone who loves music. Hello, my name is Thayer and I studied music at Berklee back when the Real Book was "illegal". I thought the original version needed some representation on the 'net, so I came up with this PURELY EDUCATIONAL site.
-
This site contains an audio example along with a viewable example of the lead sheet (in most cases). This is a fantastic resource for jazz students.
-
The purpose of this website is to provide a list of free jazz sheet music in the keys of Bb, Eb, and bass clef from the "Real Book". The content lists songs from A to Z which provide an audio recording link for each without any ads. Students can use this site to play along with the sheet music and accompaniment provided. It would make a great practice tool in addition to method book material for students of all ages. The author of the site also promotes a "my music apps" page for beginner and experienced musicians.

This is a wonderful organization tool that I have been using for the past 5 years. I do not know what I would do without this site. It keeps track of all of my students and their practice time. It has a great calendar. It is like having a personal secretary for a private studio and the possibilities are endless. I especially love the billing feature.

This is by far my most utilized music technology site. Arizona has a great history of producing wonderful all state choirs. Within this site you can access the past 20 years of sight reading materials. This includes both block and contrapuntal and sight reading lines. I use this site on a daily basis to prepare my students for these auditions.

This is where I go when I needed the latest smash hit and it has not yet been arranged for SATB or choirs. I love this site because you can now get digital copies of the music and use it with iPad programs like FourScore to play off of in concerts. No more binders full of sheet music and papers flying everywhere! This site really is a music teacher's best friend!
Similarities Between Physical Therapy and Teaching Music - 0 views

This blog compared similarities between physical therapy and teaching music. It was interesting to read the list of fifteen items which are shared between the two very different topics. The list started with hydrating and described the importance of drinking plenty of water after a strenuous exercise as well as when practicing music. My favorite parts are the article included the idea of practicing slower as well as practicing for shorter periods of times more often. I think those are great teaching tips to help our students improve. So often we as musicians and teachers just want to do everything in the fastest way possible. We also spend so much of our time staying busy with life that we seem to squeeze all of our practicing into one time rather than little by little.

This is the kids' section of the New York Philharmonic. It has very informative pages about instruments and composers. It also has games for composition, and musical puzzles. You do need to download shockwave to view the content, but it's worth it.

This website is great for elementary students to reinforce the instruments and instrument families found in the orchestra. Students can listen to the sound of each instrument and watch short videos. There are great games and assessments for students to use, I highly recommend the Orchestration Station.
