Garageband lesson plan/ideas for middle to high school students. Can be adapted to specific needs, but is very well done with a lot of information, including plan outlines, scoring, assessments, and rubrics.

This is an online platform for lesson planning. I have always used a notebook but I am considering shifting to using plan book. Mainly because if there is an unexpected day where there is no class, the teacher can shift all of the classes over one day.

A website created by the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz and designed for instructors. It offers lesson plans at no charge for 5th - 8th - 11th grade. Lessons examine jazz styles, performers, and composers. The website provides instructors with video and audio media, handouts and quizzes for students, and assessments.

Developed by The Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz, Jazz in America provides jazz educators with many great resources, including lesson plans, curriculum ideas, and audio samples.

The purpose of Jazz in America is to educate middle and high school students on the history of Jazz, help students think creatively, and to develop an appreciation of jazz music. The musical content includes lesson plans, a timeline, glossary, important musicians, style sheets, and audio recordings to use in instruction.

Mrs. Miracle's Music Room has a wealth of information. Besides the usual blog with free lesson plans and a link to her www.teacherspayteachers.com store, she also has a link to her podcast and facebook group. She includes easy to use labels to sort the blogs as well as a link to highlight her classroom design and organization. Her blogs range in topics from specific lesson plans to teacher self-care and learning styles in the music classroom. She is a Kodaly trained teacher and her blog is geared towards K-6 general music.

The blog has a myriad of resources for the elementary music classroom. I have followed this blog for years and have pulled resources and ideas from it quite often. Examples of resources I have used recently are music centers and music technology/iPad apps.

Mrs. Miracle's blog incorporates a ton of resources for the elementary school teacher. She posts podcasts, lesson plans, and different activities that she does in her classroom. There is also the option to download freebies or purchase activities from her store (similar to Teachers Pay Teachers).The blog also discusses learning styles and best practices that Aileen incorporates in her daily teaching.

This website provides a multitude of tools for music teachers, among other subjects. The website contains lesson plans and teaching strategies for grades K-12. There are lessons on world music, on instruments (such as building instruments), as well as the history of musical genres. The free version is limited, but the premium version is fairly inexpensive.

Resource for UF Masters of Music Education. This site is helpful in planning lessons for application of new ideas. I love that it has something to offer every teacher from grades K-12.

I use this website sometimes to help out with some of my lesson plans if I'm in need of worksheets to help back up the topic that is chosen for that particular week. This is good for any teacher because it provides a variety of different worksheets for many topics.

Resources for grades K-5, involving age-appropriate lessons and ideas. Ideas center around pitch, form, dynamics, rhythms, meter, performing, singing, tempo, meter, etc.

Carnegie Hall has a great resource for music educators who teach K-5th grade general music. They list the activities by grade, and even tell you what you can use each resource for (i.e. teaching rhythm, meter, singing, etc.).

The Carnegie Hall Education page for Educators provides teaching resources to teachers. They provide lesson plans, meeting certain standards, for grades K-5. These lesson plans cover everything from the basics to composition to improvisation with Brazilian Sama

The Music Educators Toolbox was created by music teachers and musicians through Carnegie Hall. It has lesson plans, videos, activities, and other resources that are categorized by grade level and also by concept. You can view the lesson plans and also watch videos of the lessons being taught. This is a great resource for lesson plans that meet the national standards.

While primarily geared towards elementary level students, some of the activities found on this website would also be helpful for beginning band classes. These can be used during those first couple of weeks when students are still trying to decide what to play and how they are going to acquire an instrument. Any of the activities can be adjusted to the experience level of your students.

This website provides resources for music educators. There are educational resources to address the topics of rhythm, meter, form, design, expression, pitch, and performance. The offerings on this website would work best in a general music classroom for younger students.

This site offers streaming of programs about young musicians and their lives. The focus is on the music and the impact it can have in a young person's life. The pieces themselves are also discussed and lesson plans are available to go with them.

From the Top at Carnegie Hall is a production where your musicians share their talents at one of the most prestigious theaters in the United States. Teachers can download the videos and programs to share with students in class. Each episode includes a lesson plan with the objectives, activities and music standards.

This site provides lesson plans to accompany full video clips from the PBS series "From the Top." The videos are essentially master classes that introduce or focus on a specific musical element.

The Comprehensive Musicianship through Performance initiative was started in Wisconsin and aims to help teachers with a planning method. There are lesson plans available. This method aims to help teachers plan to teach a whole piece using all the aspects of music learning and teaching.

This is a website consisting of fine arts lesson plans for every grade level.

Making Music Fun contains many different printable resources along with a 900+ free music lesson plans and resources. Each lesson is categorized under the different educational topic which makes it easy to navigate the site.

Making Music Fun.net is a fun resource for both teachers and students. There are fun worksheets, and free sheet music for a variety of different instruments arranged by difficulty level. I like to leave these worksheets for a sub, and I give the sheet music to my trumpet students for practicing fun items in addition to their method books which may get boring from time to time. There is also information regarding composers, and is perfect for the elementary classroom.

Has a variety of resources for elementary level music teachers. The collection of sheet music organized by playing level is particularly good. You can also access theory, music history, and composer activity worksheets. Also contains a large number of lesson plans with accompanying worksheets.

This site contains a collection of lesson plans for theory and history that could be utilized or referenced for the classroom.

The Smithsonian Folkways Recordings website is filled with standard-based content from around the globe. There are articles to read, podcasts to listen to, recordings to listen to, artists to research and lesson plans to use in the classroom. The lesson plans are standard-based and well researched. Each lesson is labeled on the world map for easy reference. Lessons have links to playlists, videos and additional resources. There are lesson plans designed for all ages K-12.

These recordings provide students the opportunity to hear music from all over the world and explore the social impact of music on our society. These resources are invaluable as a music teacher.

Some great tips for teaching songwriting on this teaching post. The post includes a detailed lesson plan with a step-by-step sequence. The lesson includes brainstorming tips, lyric writing, rhyming, and music composition. It also suggests incorporating technology to record and playback your collaborative creations.

This website from Smithsonian Jazz gives teachers resources for teaching jazz education to students.  There are free lesson plans and recordings for teachers to utilize.  In some instances, lesson plans are organized by age groups.

Musictheory.net is an all encompassing music theory website. It includes lesson plans and on-line, interactive exercises that solidify and enhance those lesson plans. This website also includes great theoretical tools. These tools include interval calculators, analysis, chord and scale calculators and even a 12 tone row matrix. It also has utilities such as an pop-up piano and metronome.
