    The increasing popularity of social networking sites and mobile phone texting have presented society with problems in how to protect children online. More and more youngsters are becoming victims of Internet predators and bullies. Parents are finding it more difficult to ensure their kids are safe online. Gone are the days when Mum and Dad could keep an eye on their child's surfing with parental controls on the family computer. Today's new mobile and networked world poses new and dangerous threats to online kids. Two recent initiatives aim to teach children about cyber-safety. Internet safety will soon be taught in UAE schools, while in Indiana, USA, parents will attend an Internet Social Networking conference. The UAE has launched a nationwide programme aimed at educating students on how to use the Internet safely and avoid suspicious websites. Spokesman Jay Bavisi said: "Advances in instant communication media, including the likes of Twitter, Facebook, and other instant messaging services, drive the very fabric of our modern society. Parents, siblings, teachers and children alike will need to understand the dangers the connected world presents." The Indiana conference will explore topics like cyber-bullying, sexting and online child exploitation. Local attorney Steven DeBrota said: "The number one way to keep a kid safe is for them to be skeptical. If they do not believe automatically what people tell them, they will be safer."

      No list of tear-inducing documentaries is complete without "Sex In A Cold Climate." It follows survivors of Ireland's Magdalene Asylums, and the abuse they endured there, working long hours for no pay, forcibly separated from their children, some being beaten and molested by nuns and priests. The idea that such places existed in our lifetime (the last asylum closed in 1996) is mind boggling, and these women still have not seen justice.

      I really suggest "Under Our Skin." It's a documentary that shows the struggle of Chronic Lyme disease patients and how so many people are going untreated. As a Chronic Lyme disease patient myself, I must say that everything being documented in this film is completely accurate. I would't say this unless I was absolutely confident. I know many documentaries tend to be biased, but this one says it like it is. I promise you won't be disappointed.

      "The Suicide Tourist" I cried ridiculously over. I thought it was a very brave, balanced, and interesting look at the choice to die, but I'd never actually watched a real person die that close up before and found it very difficult to see having followed this man's story throughout the film.

      "Dream of a life", a movie about Joyce Carol Vincent, a Londoner. Better if you don't know the details until watching. Will stay with you for long after the film ends but is a very moving story and in David Sedaris' words, "was the best argument for the buddy system I had ever seen" (Although he was writing about someone else).

      I was really hoping to see At The Death House Door listed here, which is available on Netflix and for free on Vimeo. It follows a Texas death house chaplain who worked over 15 years ministering to men on death row, including some he believed to be innocent. Never wanting to burden his family with what he saw, he spoke his feelings into a tape recorder after every execution. He began his job as the kind of person many Americans are, that is, pro-death penalty. See for yourself if that changes.

      I've seen #6 and #12. "My Flesh and Blood" was really good, but it was more disturbing than sad. I cried my goddamned eyes out of my skull during "Bulgaria's Abandoned Children." I had to watch a follow-up just to get through life.  Also, docus don't have to be sad or jarring. There is one called "Praying With Lior" about a Jewish boy with down syndrome that made me cry happy tears.

      I started watch the Dying Rooms, it's about 'hospitals' in China where you can drop off ur babies (a, List all girls) and then they're left in rooms to die. I couldn't finish it because it was secretly filmed so you can actually see the starving babies, it's awful

      I recently watched "The Whale" which was simultaneously sad and uplifting. The fact that this whale was seeking the company of humans in very charming ways was such a beautiful example of interspecies connection, it was impossible not to be moved by this. However, what to do about this, given that the whale was approaching dangerous boats and potentially dangerous people, is a real puzzle. Should the whale be indulged the only interaction available to him in his lonely existence, or should we turn our backs on his loneliness to support his physical survival? There is no easy answer, but it does give viewers something to consider in how we regard our animal friends and their needs.

  • Alcohol is a depressant, but caffeine, cocaine, methamphetamine, and ecstasy are stimulants. Marijuana is not really classified as either because it has a mix of effects. Depressant does not mean it causes depression, it means that it slows down certain metabolic processes. For marijuana this is primarily manifested by muscle relaxation and lowered blood pressure, or basically the relaxed or drowsy feeling most people experience when on this drug. Stimulant is basically the opposite, it stimulates certain metabolic processes. This is why people who are on cocaine or meth or ecstasy are generally energized, and addicts are frequently very thin because stimulants suppress the appetite and speed up metabolism. Some people who smoke marijuana have almost the opposite effect than most people - they get very anxious. It causes increased heart rate (and low blood pressure, that was intentional in case you are questioning that), and that can make people feel anxiety. That effect is considered a stimulant effect.
  • All stimulants and depressants alter brain function, usually temporarily but if abused or overused can cause a permanent change in brain function. Stimulants are more known for causing permanent chemical imbalances when abused, even permanent psychosis (hallucinations, or general misperception of reality). Many people have the misperception that prescribed stimulants (amphetamines like Ritalin, Adderal, Focalin, etc.) are completely safe because of their use as a pharmaceutical. While they are safe if used as prescribed, they still have potential to cause the same side effects as illegal stimulants if they are taken more than prescribed or in different ways (like snorting, or breaking a capsule, or injecting).
  • The other problem with lumping marijuana into these categories is that unlike most of them, marijuana is not chemically addictive. Drugs like cocaine and methamphetamine cause a chemical change in the brain which causes a chemical addiction in addition to a physical addiction. Though many will try to tell you that it is chemically addictive, they are really mistaking physical addiction for chemical addiction. If it makes you feel good, you want to keep feeling that way so you keep doing the drug. Chemical addiction includes severe withdrawal symptoms with abrupt discontinuation of the drug. While there are some withdrawal symptoms associated with it's use, they are usually restricted to people who smoke a lot for a long time, and the symptoms are not medically dangerous. If a cocaine addict were to stop abruptly, that person risks death from withdrawal symptoms if not properly taken care of. A more practical explanation would be: you don't see very many people lose their job, house, family, and belongings because of pot, but that situation is frequent among cocaine or meth addicts. The other complication of marijuana is that there is a legitimate medical use for it, while cocaine, meth, ecstasy, and alcohol have no medical use. Just in case someone tries to argue this, cocaine and heroin used to be used in hospitals about a century ago, but are no longer used because the health risks of their use far outweigh the benefits.

Can marijuana cause chemical imbalances? I never heard ever in my life of THC being a depressant. But like all drugs I could only imagine so thats why I came here to question it. The danger with active warming (hot water bath) over passive warming (blankets), is the blood left in your limbs is very cold. Your body uses all the warm blood for the trunk of the body. If you put someone into hot water you run this risk of opening up the circulation in the extremities, sending cold blood into the heart. This will result in cardiac arrest and then death.
