"Abstract The last five years have witnessed a hype about MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) presaging a revolution in higher education. Although all MOOCs have in common their scale and free access, they have already bifurcated in two very distinct types of courses when compared in terms of their underpinning theory, format and structure, known as c-MOOCs and x-MOOCs. The concept of openness behind each of the formats is also very different. Previous studies have shown that c-and x-MOOCs share some common features but that they clearly differ on the learning theory and pedagogical model on which they stand. In this paper we extend earlier findings and concentrate on the concept of "openness" behind each format showing important differences. That time, however, Dr Wiley's course was followed by a rather unusual group of students. The Fall 2007 edition, in fact, was available to anybody, free of charge, all over the world. The only requisite required was the possession of a blog for the completion of the weekly assignments. The present paper, whose authors attended the course completing it successfully, is an account of the experience they had. It can be considered an innovating experience from many different viewpoints and can be regarded as an example of how the world of the formal education can meet the demands of the informal one, in the broader landscape of professional training and lifelong learning. I am currently investigating file formats for long-term preservation. Obviously they must be free of proprietary ownership and publicly accessible and avoid vendor-locking - even if the vendor is a non-profit organization. What I wonder: which conditions must a video file format fulfill to permit captioning / subtitling? Are there public and open standards of formats for captioning / subtitling? Where do I find them? Can they be enriched with metadata about the author of the subtitles?

Al momento l'ho solo taggato e ho raccolto qualche tutorial per approfondire; non l'ho ancora provato. Sembra molto interessante anche perché funziona anche come aggregatore da feed. Da quel che ho potuto vedere dai tutorial (ma è anche vero che sono datati di un paio d'anni) è sviluppata sino ad ora solo per linux e windows anche se registra da qualunque fonte incluso mac. Scaricabile liberamente dalla rete perché Open, sostituisce i programmi proprietari su qualsiasi superficie touch. In inglese ma corredato da videotutorial. Segnalato da Maupao.

L'ho scaricato intanto e provato sul laptop. Le funzionalità ci sono tutte o quasi mi pare, comunque le più importanti e sono semplici da usare. La visualizzazione grafica forse sul laptop va adattata (vedo alcune scritte eccessivamente grandi). La galleria dei contenuti ha una impostazione molto chiara, più funzionale del notebook per esempio, ma è tutta da riempire naturalmente. L'interfaccia web al momento (mi?) funziona proprio male. il motore di ricerca della galleria non si attiva e se cerco di collegarmi a siti web esterni dall'interno della finestra della lavagna, il programma incontra una serie di errori e smette poi di funzionare. Sarà da provare un po', anche in classe collegata alle varie lim, per verificare se può effettivamente fare da valido sostituto dei vari software proprietari. Da verificare anche la compatibilità/convertibilità da/con i formati almeno più diffusi (notebook e promethean per es.) per poter riutilizzare contenuti già creati con quelli senza troppe difficoltà. Il problema della eterogeneità di lim e relativi software, nell'ambito in particolare dello stesso istituto - posto che secondo me il software proprietario rimane comunque di grande utilità per chi lo usa diffusamente, se non altro per beneficiare dei contenuti creati nell'ambito delle relative comunità i apprendimento - mi pare diffuso a macchia d'olio e ormai endemico, mi sa, a causa delle 'politiche' di acquisto piuttosto incoerenti adottate dalle scuole nell'ebrezza da finanziamento pon o similare. Forse un software aperto potrebbe alleviare, se non risolvere, i disagi creati a docenti e studenti.

Per portare il titolo di "Insegnare con open source" ed aver realizzato su Moodle corsi su software (appunto) open source, noto che nelle descrizioni di ciascun singolo corso (ho geardato solo la primaria) viene riportato: Requisiti tecnici della postazione: Sistema operativo Piattaforma Microsoft (Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7) Browser (IE 7.0 e versioni successive, Safari 5.0 e versioni successive, Chrome 11 e versioni successive, Firefox 3.6 e versioni successive). Si salva giusto Firefox!!! ;-)
