Keeping in mind that online social networks extend beyond the obvious Twitter and Facebook-blogs, podcasts, wikis, and photo/video sharing sites are a few other forms of social media-the vexing question to answer has been how to quantify the scope or significance of one's participation in social media to a wider scholarly conversation."

"One month after long-time Ning CEO Gina Bianchini was replaced by COO Jason Rosenthal, the company is making some major changes: It has just announced that it is killing off its free product, forcing existing free networks to either make the change to premium accounts or migrate their networks elsewhere. Le funzionalità ricordano Edmodo, anche se non ho provato la piattaforma. La versione (ad oggi) è beta: suppongo si tratti di una creatura "giovane", anche dal fatto che è solo in inglese. Esiste un copyright ben supportato da articolati "Terms of service". Nessun segno di filosofia wiki, contrariamente ad Edmodo. Una volta avviato, il servizio potrebbe in teoria essere soggetto a pagamento, dunque.

Whether you're new to technology, just getting started with a social network, or looking for some useful tips then these courses are for you. They're part of a new idea that I've been working on with a few friends. We're calling it Modern Lessons and it's essentially a 'Khan Academy for real-world skills' where a small handful of people build free online courses designed to help you learn some important things.

"At my place of employment Diigo is blocked through our server under the social network category. I have administrator rights and can override the block for a set time period, eg 30 minutes. Diigo opens and I am able to surf from my bookmarks satisfactorily. However, there is no way I can add new bookmarks to my Diigo account, using a "Post To Diigo" bookmark in Internet Explorer, or the "Add+" button at the top of "My Items" in "my library" view. Somewhere, somehow our server is preventing this to happen. Needless to say I am disappointed. The work around is to email my new urls to my home address and then ad them to Diigo once I return home."

Tra le molte riflessioni che l'articolo di Marconato apre ne posso scegliere, per ora, un paio: 1) è corretto porre la questione in termini di "nativi digitali"? 2) E' soltanto, o principalmente, l'approccio verso le tecnologie digitali a creare un divario fra ragazzi e insegnanti? Riguardo alla prima domanda ho notato come atteggiamenti (e attitudini) simili a quelli dei ragazzi nei confronti di internet ce l'hanno anche tanti adulti, specialmente se di bassa istruzione. Questo mi fa pensare che la frequentazione assidua, soprattutto, di social networks dipenda essenzialmente dall'avere poche difese contro l'accettazione passiva di mode e modelli di consumo. Infatti, da quello che ho potuto vedere, sono pochi i ragazzi che possiedono "vere" competenze informatiche e, in genere, quelli che le possiedono, spesso, le condividono con almeno un genitore. Di positivo c'è l'apprendimento intuitivo e condiviso degli strumenti per navigare e comunicare in internet, ma anche quello non mi sembra "generazionale": è tipico anche di molti adulti, soprattutto se non hanno subito il condizionamento del cosiddetto "metodo di studio". Per l'apprendimento non serve la fatica ma l'interesse. Alla seconda domanda ha risposto già, in modo articolato, Marconato: i gap generazionali ci sono sempre stati. Inoltre, nel "villaggio globale" non c'è solo una cultura globale e condivisa; anzi, di condiviso c'è poco. Sta all'insegnante avere un'apertura verso l'altro, tale da non dare per scontato che egli possieda conoscenze prestabilite alle quali collegarsi. Spesso è già un errore considerare che un alunno possieda quelle certificate nei precedenti anni di scuola. Tra l'altro, se egli ha molte curiosità e interessi, e questi internet aiuta decisamente a soddisfarli, ma le sue informazioni divergono da quelle possedute dall'insegnante, per i prof più tradizionalisti è anche peggio, ma era così anche

"TWITTER -- February 17, 2011 at 9:30 AM EDT NPR's Andy Carvin on Tracking and Tweeting Revolutions By: Hari Sreenivasan We caught up with NPR's Senior Strategist Andy Carvin between his 400+ tweets a day for a chat about his Twitter stream. It has become a must-follow wire service of sorts for people interested in the latest developments in Tunisia, Egypt and a growing number of countries across the Middle East, Persian Gulf and North Africa. We discussed how he began mapping out whom to trust in the "Twittersphere," and how he works to verify and share facts with NPR as the stories develop. His tweets are populated with the words "source" and "verified?" More often than not, as he re-tweets trends and waves of information across the streams he tracks as his sources verify or discount facts on the ground. Carvin uses a combination of old media (wire services, broadcast networks) and follows a series of bloggers and Twitter accounts. He verifies with sources he trusts before saying a piece of information is "confirmed." Andy has spoken about his open news-gathering processes during a live-chat with Poynter, a Q&A with the Atlantic, the Knight Digital Media Center and it has been blogged about at the New York Times."

Edmodo non è EdMondo. Si tratta di una piattaforma digitale per gruppi di educatori e di studenti. Purtroppo non esiste una versione in italiano, ma è popolarissima negli Stati Uniti e nei paesi di lingua spagnola. Disponibile anche in francese e tedesco.  Consiglio di iscriversi come "teacher" ma prima di tutto di esplorare qualche tutorial in YouTube.

@ Angela: credo che tu stia parlando di EdMondo, con la N. Che è un'altra cosa. @ Luisella: sì, sul cloud, da dove resta accessibile a tutti e ovunque, e da dove è improbabile che venga cancellato. Il server locale è più vulnerabile agli incidenti, secondo me. I servizi online invece possono "imballarsi" a causa del sovraffollamento, come abbiamo tutti sperimentato con i siti ministeriali, o con il sito dell'AIE, nel periodo delle adozioni dei testi scolastici.

@Lucia: Nel mio commento parlo di tutte e due . Confermo il tuo giudizio positivo sulla piattaforma Edmodo, ma aggiungo di star sperimentando anche EdMondo, per ribadire due nuove tecniche di insegnamento molto apprezzate delle nuove generazioni che meritano di essere sperimentate per capire come utilizzarle affiancandole alla didattica tradizionale.
