ThinkThankThunk | Dealing with the fear of being a boring teacher. - 4 views

  •
This is a great blog to follow, if you are worried about becoming boring in the classroom. Shawn will raise a lot of common questions and situations that occur in education and make you think about challenging the status quo. It is also a great resource for educators who are moving to a standards-based or competencies based grading system.

Think Thank Thunk - Dealing with the fear of being a boring teacher - Jeremy Cooper This looks like a great blog! Very captivating! Shawn Cornally states that he "helps run a competency-based high school" so, based upon that, I'm sure that many of his posts deal with high school level material. However, as an educator, good is good, across the board. So, I'm excited to read about his ideas even though they may not directly pertain to my grade level. I think this could be a great resource for educators to gain new ideas within the teaching realm. You might also enjoy marvelousteachermusings.com. Many of her posts are on the lighter-side, but she still brings some great ideas to think about. I particularly like her post on July 28 "If Teacher's Planned Inservice Training". Enjoy!

I have to do a lot of file conversion as apart of my subject area, especially Drafting and Design. I also have students who have projects that require file conversion as well. This resource has proven to be invaluable as it has nearly every file format you can possibly think of and it does all the conversion in the cloud. Therefore, it is not slowing down your computer and it will email you when it is finished.

Shine on the web | Scoop.it - 0 views

A major push in my district and in the State of Iowa, is to get students reading more technical documents. Like you, I only have so much time to try and go out to find articles that will be interesting and relevant to students, so I use Scoop.it to do the hard work for me. I have it setup to email me once a day with stories and articles that are based around my subject area. You can absolutely do the same for your subject area!

Schoology - Free Classroom LMS - 3 views

  •
Schoology is a relatively new free learning management system for educators. Similar in nature to Edmodo, it currently allows the educator a few more abilities, resources, and customization that isn't offered in Edmodo.
  •
o Do agree or disagree that the resource can be used efficiently in your own future classroom? Explain why or why not. Yes, this feature CAN and HAS been used in my classroom to much success. Students really seem to prefer it over other LMS websites like Edmodo or Moodle because of the ease of use, different resources, mobile app, and the App Store. I use it for distributing and collecting assignments, taking polls and surveys, and for taking assessments such as quizzes and tests. o Do you believe the resource is mostly for teacher use, student use, or both? Explain your perceptions constructively. This resource is used by both the teacher and the students in order to be effective. The teacher is the one who sets up the page, creates the assignments, links, quizzes, polls, etc and the students use the site to effectively manage their learning process. It has really helped to take away the complaints and excuses that I typically get from students not knowing what they are supposed to do and where everything is located. I think one of the major advantages to Schoology is the ease of being able to find Files/Links and Assignments. o Are you aware of any similar resources that should be considered? If so, what are those resources. This task is similar to our threaded discussions. You want your comments to be constructive. Repeat this step for the remaining three bookmarks you are required to comment on. Other possible LMS websites that I have used are: Moodle, Edmodo, and Blackboard. There are many, many others as this is a highly innovative arena right now and out of all of them, Schoology seems to really impress most educators who have tried using it.
  •
I really like the looks of schoolology, Jeremy! I can see how this would be very useful in a junior high or high school classroom. Especially in a school that has gone 1:1! If fifth grade students had their own computers, I would definitely use this as a classroom management tool! I think this is a great way for educators, students, and parents to all be on the same page regarding assignments and class expectations. I really like the Text/SMS feature! As you had stated in your description. This is very similar to Edmodo, which I'm familiar with. Thank you for sharing!

Master list of Web 2.0 Tools

This list is a great resource and I believe I could use this in my future classroom. If I am in a classroom with technology readily available I think many of the web 2.0 tools listed in this article could be put to good use! I believe this resource is intended for teachers but will benefit students and teachers alike when these tools are implemented into the classroom. I found this article "The 100 Best Web 2.0 Classroom Tools Chosen By You," http://www.edudemic.com/best-web-tools/. This list was published a year after the article you posted so you might want to check out this list as well! Thank you for your resource!
  •
This quick article went through 35 web 2.0 tools. I like this list because it has some of the easier things to work with (Prezi, Twitter) to some more advanced things like Diigo and Wikispaces.
  •
I love lists like this because it is so much easier to rely on someone else's compilation as a starting point rather than gathering tools on your own.

Wow, this is great! I've never seen a website like this! I can absolutely see how I would refer to this site when my students pose that ever-popular question, "When am I ever gonna use this?" I think this sight could be used by teacher, students, and parents to help deepen the understanding and application of math concepts! I wish I had a similar site to share with you, but, like I said, this is the first I've seen of this type! Thanks for sharing!

Great site for both teachers and students to show how math relates to everyday life! Thanks for sharing this is something I can see myself using in the future.

Wow Ryan! This looks like an awesome resource once it gets going! I think that this could be a wonderful tool in getting students creating their own graphic design images, etc. I think that this could be used by both teachers and students! Teachers could use this to create material for the classroom, etc., and students can create images for projects, school organizations, etc. It seems similar to Animoto (animoto.com), which allows you to easily create video/slideshows on the web. Great resource!
  •
Thank you for sharing this resource, I had no idea something like this was out there! I'm going to try messing around with Canva and see if I can make some new designs for my blog since I'm just using default Blogger templates now. I love how simple it looks and I can see how it would be easy for students and non-techie people to use. I can also see myself actually being able to produce some of my own posters for my classroom as well.
  •
Ryan I had never heard of Canva! This looks cool and I feel would be a great tool for students and teachers, like you said. This seems like it could really have students and teachers getting creative and sharing that with each other!
  •
Ryan- Thank you for introducing this brand new tool. It looks like an app that can be used by both teachers and students. This is one I would like to stay up to date with so that I can give it a try when it releases for use.
  •
Canva is a great tool. I have used this tool in my classroom. We used Canva's Snapchat filter template to create filters for our school. This tool is great for students to express their creative side. The one downfall I have seen with Canva is that some of their features are premium and that leaves a watermark on the final project.
  •
This seems like a really cool resource Ryan!
  •
I am a big fan of Canva! I taught my 4th grade students how to use it last year. They continue to use it for projects, tasks, and assignments. They have a hard time finding free graphics on the site, though. Luckily, they are also good at finding and inserting their own :)

I love Prezi! I have used it many times in classes to do presentations! I love the way it looks and it is so much better than a boring powerpoint! Don't get me wrong, powerpoint is a great tool also, but sometimes it is nice to just use Prezi and do something a little different than everyone else! I think more people should really learn about Prezi.
  •
I think Prezi is a great Web 2.0 Tool. Powerpoints are very beneficial and fun to create, however Prezi takes that to a whole new level. It is a great interactive tool that keeps learners engaged! Prezi is great for anyone to use, whether you are a student or an educator. I think all students should learn and hear about Prezi, so they can make interactive presentations!
  •
This is the best presentation tool out there. Whenever I see a Power point I kind of laugh to myself. Prezi is just so much more pretty. With the types of transitions and effects you can make it just makes the experience so much better. As some of the others were saying it keeps the learners engaged. Power points came often become very repetitive and boring but with Prezi this is rarely the fact. Prezi is catered to many different levels of education, teachers, students, and even business. Anyone can use it, and they should. To my knowledge there aren't any different types of presentation tools out there.

How to put OER's in action. A great Science tool!
  •
Science is one of my favorite subject and I thought this resource was great! As a teacher I can see myself using . This for my future classroom. I have not seen any similar resources and i think this offers great items.
  •
Christa, My overall first impression about this resource is what an amazing science tool! I especially love this resource because it not only speaks to my understanding of being a science major, but also as a hopefully becoming a science teacher as well. I completely agree that this resource will for sure be used in my future classroom, as well as even possibly passing it down my future students and maybe even one day to my future student teachers. I personally believe that this resource can be used for both teachers as well as students. My reasoning behind why it can be used for both is because how teachers can learn from the viable information, or even teach the students science in a different way that they possible different even think of before. As well as students can learn from the material, on top of what the teacher has taught them in the classroom. I am currently not aware of any other similar resources, but I will make sure to keep my eye out for any more just like this one in the future. Overall, this resource is extremely valuable and easy to access.
