Hotel Concepts-Brilliant's iTesso Offers Hospitality Operators A True End-To-End Cloud-Based Management Solution / June 2012 - 0 views

  • Hotel Concepts–Brilliant, a leading global provider of technology and software solutions for the hospitality industry, has unveiled the future of enterprise lodging systems—the revolutionary iTesso solution. Ideal for hotel chains of all sizes, scalable and customizable, iTesso will be exhibited during HITEC 2012, at booth # 1222. One of the hospitality industry’s first true end-to-end cloud-based management systems, iTesso is an integrated property management system, distribution platform and central reservations system all rolled into a single intuitive solution. As a component-based hotel chain inventory and distribution management system, iTesso can be deployed as a direct connection between a hotel's CRS and the global distribution systems and alternate distribution systems, or as a distributed multi-property PMS with links to third-party CRS systems. In short, iTesso represents a brilliant new concept in technology convergence.
  • The interface connections are monitored and upgraded on a hotel and a centralized level. This offers hotel users unique value from the high degree of scalability and redundancy, something that is rarely economically feasible with a premise-based solution. Moreover, the Windows Azure platform is completely secure and reliable, with critical encrypted information redundantly stored at two data centers with seamless switching.
  •
iTesso is a cloud-based PMS which offers interface with the property's CRS, GDS, and other third-party systems.  What caught my eye in this article is that it specifies that it is Windows compatible and offers high-level security.  Compared with WebRezPro, iTesso seems to be a better system in that it claims to be appropriate for all hotel chains regardless of size, secure, able to be updated to stay relevant, and covers all of the functionalities that a PMS should be able to handle.

Technology Trends in Corporate Event Planning for 2013 and Beyond | Shows In a Box - 0 views

  • . Utilizing technology to measure attendee requests, receive real-time information on event efficiency, and restructure planner’s tasks makes sense, as does an automated solution that incorporates the much needed information into smartphones and mobile devices for both planners and attendees.

  • -Event Planners will gain Increased Efficiency via Solution Consolidation
  •
Technology trends in event planning have changed considerably over the past year. Social media has become a major part by providing references for events, online reviews, and allowing for vendors to provide information prior and after event. Some event planners have started using smart phone applications to connect with the attendees.
  •
Event specialists can expect to see several technological trends in event planning this year. Social media, of course, is "embryonic" when it comes to marketing an event. Event planners can use social media to expand the life of the event by creating pre and post event meetup creating stimulating conversation about topics surrounding the event and getting potential guests excited to attend. Smartphone integration has increased over the course of the year, as well. Event planners can actually get rid of using paper but using mobile applications that help them create lists, seating and floor plans and check in guests using QR code scanners. The "Event Check-in" application allows planners to do just that and immediately sync with other linked mobile devices to update the guest list. These apps also provide the opportunity for data mining and instantly get analytics for the event. Event solution consolidation will also be bigger with cloud-based websites such as Cvent and Eved to help event planners cut down on time looking for resources.

Hotel technology trends that are changing how hotels do business - 1 views

  • Choice created the software in 2003 as an inexpensive solution for franchisees of its economy brands.
  • The PMS had a lot of growing pains at first, but eventually it became more and more cloud enabled and was adopted across the company.

Over time new features have been rolled into the software platform making it more robust and useful for hotel owners—it’s currently distributed in eight countries and available in four languages. And while plenty of cloud-based PMS packages are now available from third-party vendors like Micros, Maestro, and RoomKey, Choice’s internal solution has garnered its fair share of attention. “We had been getting knocks on the door from IT vendors at other hotel companies and individual Choice franchisees that own other brands, saying they were interested in our product,” says Pacious, “So we set up a new division so we could take a look at other opportunities we could develop.” This led the company to launch SkyTouch last year, a new division that develops and markets cloud-based software solutions to hotels inside and outside the Choice system. Choice Hotels has been a industry leader in the cloud PMS movement. They identified the opportunity to create their own platform 10 years ago when cloud was barely on the radar and have now successfully distributed it to 5,500 of their properties. Unique functionality built into the system is internet redundancy via cellular data plan, company-wide campaign pop-up messages to staff, interface to Pegasus and revenue management through predictive analytics. The platform has been so successful that, in response to inquiries from other companies who wanted to use Choice's proprietary system themselves, they created an additional revenue stream by establishing a separate company that sells and creates custom cloud PMS systems. One advantage pointed out is that managers no longer need to be on property to access and make changes to their PMS. While this is hugely beneficial to the majority of the industry (who already work long hours and visit the property on their day off), there may be some who take advantage of the situation. If this becomes the case, less oversight at the property means that operations has the potential to slip. It doesn't seem that this is a concern for Choice Hotels but it should be considered.

The article titled "Deciphering ROI from tech investment can be complicated", explores how technology can be challenging within the hotel industry. It is important to note that hotels need to understand what components they need to include, and which are simply a waste of money. According to the author, "Some technology trends are elements that hotels need to survive, while some technology is simply a fad". It is important to keep an eye on consumer trends to filter out what will actually enhance guest experience. Nowadays, guests and staff need mobile needs to optimize their work processes. For some processes and technologies, the ROI may be almost immediate, but for others, they still require more time to see the investment. In terms of investing in technology, do you think room automation is always necessary? In my personal opinion, the more perks a room has, the more it may enhance the customer experience. Ultimately, it all depends on the hotel, its size and its investment opportunities.
  •
This article discussed how to pick the best technology for your company thus maximizing your ROI. Some technologies are necessary while others are just a fad and it is important to determine what your company needs. Guests are also demanding more tech advancements from hotels, the personal touch is not as important anymore. Mobile and digital payment tech is becoming more and more important. Lastly it is important to note that technology will not always fix a problem, it is up to the company to determine what the issue is and then learn how to implement technology that will assist, not just expect it to resolve on its own.
  •
Very interesting article that makes us question whether specific technological add-ons are must haves versus nice to haves to separate us from our neighbours. It also shows us that we cant often times quantify from an ROI perspective. It begs the question, does technology really set a hotel apart and how.

Hospitality Management Program Implements State-of-the-Art Technology - 1 views

  • After considerable industry-wide research, Kendall College has added MeetingMatrix International to their hospitality curriculum. MeetingMatrix provides state-of-the-art meeting planning technology solutions, which will soon be taught to all students enrolled in the hospitality school at Kendall College.
  • Founded on the principle of expanding and enhancing communication between event sites and meeting professionals around the world, it has become the industry leader and continues to enhance the meeting experience. Because of its presence and value within the meetings and events industry, Kendall College saw the need to implement this high-tech software into their curriculum.
  • Glen C. Ramsborg, Ph.D., CMP, was recently appointed as a Professor in the School of Hospitality Management at Kendall College and actively sought out the MeetingMatrix event planning software. Ramsborg, who joined the Kendall faculty in September, is a veteran education professional with a 25-year career in meeting and event management. He is a longtime member of both the Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) and Meeting Professionals International (MPI), and was formerly the Senior Director of Education at PCMA. Due to his extensive background in the industry he understands the value of MeetingMatrix and what it will bring to the classroom.

  • Planners have access to a venue’s measured and certified diagrams, and then are able to create event setups specific to their needs, all with that particular venue’s exact dimensions and inventory items. From there, with the MeetingMatrix 3D-VR Browser, planners can view their desired setup in 3D Virtual Reality so that they can feel as though they are actually experiencing their event. The technology is advancing the way in which business is done, which is why Professor Ramsborg and Kendall College understand its importance in the education field and will include it in their meeting and event management courses.
  •
As this article mentioned, MeetingMatris will be added to the hospitality curriculum in Kendall College. MeetingMatrix provides State-of-the Art meeting planning technology solutions. In my opinion, it is very necessary to provide the students with useful technology solutions and it provides a lot of assistance for their future job seeking. In the rapid development society, accurate and instant information decides if a business success or fail in a meeting plan. Therefore, more and more people begin to pay attention on this issue.

This article is great as it talks about what specifically to this company is important when it comes to their certain aspects of what they want in their i.t. investment. It speaks about all the different benefits that come along with what is going good and what is going bad in this situation and all the different ways they are trying to improve and benefit from it.
  • The solutions associated with the challenges of enhancing the guest experience and presenting a business case to senior management will be discussed by hospitality experts including Daniel Hajjar and Radi Karnib at the 3rd Annual Hotel Technology Middle East exhibition and conference in September. Current exhibitors include: Sony, Jumbo, Mitel, VingCard and Aegis Tech.

IT investment are pushed forward now and days more so for guest satisfaction. A recent Motorola Solutions Inc has uncovered a study that fifty six percent of hospitality organization plan to increase their mobile investment and wireless technology with greater data volumes and high speed access. This will increase drastically competitive advantage for the business and customer experience. Some find it a challenge in convincing upper management to approve investing in to the latest technology. As well as demonstrating that a proposed technology investment will be beneficial for their business and will assist in continuous up to date trends and market competition. I highly agree that technology is a must in this industry, especially how fast it is changing. In order to stay within the competitive advantage and provide convenience for our guest it is necessary to invest and update into the latest technology. The initial investment might be extreme especially if you have been out of date from any recent technology however, with time the results will be returned with satisfied guest and fast paced PMS systems.

This article speaks on the recent increase in hospitality spending on new and innovative technology advances. One of the leading locations for hospitality, Dubai, is being seen as a front runner in investment. The article also talks about how these technology companies see the potential in the hospitality industry and are focusing their efforts on this business sector. One challenge mentioned is convincing the management of a company to "dish out the money" for the advances. This is a very informative article with an unbiased view point.

I liked how this article talked about mobile apps, I think it won't be long until we start seeing that replace the existing room keys. The only problem is if some has a lot of apps and a lot of security passwords to bypass, it would take forever to open your room door, you would much rather have a standard room key. However, this creates lots of partnerships with cell phone companies further increasing hotel revenue. You can even save labor with this at the front of house areas. The possibilities are endless.
  •
Information technology spending is on the rise in the hospitality industry in attempts to enhance the guest experience in the highly competitive market. According to Motorola hotels are looking to increasing mobile investments in the hopes that their staff will be better equipped and that with their new hardware will improve operational efficiency. The article states that 91% of hospitality decision-makers see mobile and wireless technology as the wave of the future, as well as the need for mobility to stay competitive. A few large challenges are: keeping up with cost, ever-changing technology, the need for more bandwidth, and data storage.
  •
Information Technology is indispensable in the hospitality industry for several reasons. This article discusses how many hotels are increasing their investment in I.T because of its abundant advantages, especially guest satisfaction. It particularly states how mobile and wireless technology will aid in guests pleasure but ensure competitive advantage as well. They looked at a study of Motorola Solutions Market Barometer of 2011 where they fundamentally determine the emerging trends in the industry and opportunities. They then came to understand that businesses are investing more on hospitality information technology to not only assist in customer retention but to have an overall high-quality system that can manage their daily duties such as inventory, budget, and status of room reservations.
  •
This article talks about how hotel companies are starting to invest more in information technology to provide a more enhanced guest experience. A survey done by Motorola Solutions found that 56% of hospitality companies are looking to invest in more mobile technology. While companies are looking to invest more in technology, it has been challenging to convince higher management levels to make the investment. Radi Karnib with Rotana Hotel Management said that it's important to demonstrate the benefits of the investment. Daniel Haijar with Layia Hospitality agrees and goes on to say that it's important to differentiate between what's an investment and what's an expense.

A lot of the systems also are ipad based and work well with third-party POS hardware. They also have automated payment options integrated, for people who like to process payments electronically (i.e. Apple Pay). I think its important to know about these POS systems and what they can accomplish for hospitality companies.

The Point-Of-Sale Problem - 0 views

  • To properly manage risk, start by applying the same security practices to the POS system that you use with other sensitive IT systems.
  • look for POS systems that have clear security design improvements over legacy ones.
  • Any system that's part of a payment process is a target of data thieves. Wise companies will assume that the devices, applications, and networks that house sensitive cardholder data are under siege and act accordingly.
  •
The POS is a great system that is used by many industries. It helps businesses run efficiently and transactions be done effectively. However, it comes with its problems. This article is in two parts so I will post the both on Diigo. This article states that POS systems are the most frequently used computing system and it is targeted by criminals. According to the article, "Today, attackers have only become more sophisticated, using advanced software techniques to avoid detection by antivirus. The attackers are attaching devices that are to collect information from the patrons who use the POS system. The solution to this issue from the article, is that managers apply the same security practices to the POS systems that are used for other sensitive IT systems. These systems should not be the same system used for internet browsing or email. Using a third party security is system is fine however, they should ensure that security controls are part of regular maintenance. The article states that businesses should look for POS systems that have design improvements rather than those who have been in the industry for a long time. There needs to be upgraded design, security, and software to minimize the threats that are posed on the POS system. This article highlights the issues that POS systems attract and also gives solutions. It is up to the businesses to give as much attention as possible to this system the same way they do for systems with sensitive information. Ultimately credit card transactions do hold sensitive information so the upgraded POS systems should be the number one choice for a business. Along with what is stated in the articles, this minimizes the risk of customer loss and a damaged reputation. This also helps minimize the possibility of revenue loss due to lawsuits because of breaches.

6 Must-ask questions to consider before buying a PMS | By Stuart Dickinson - Hospitality Net - 0 views

  • A good PMS controls and automates a number of processes within a hotel, ideally reducing time-consuming tasks and inefficiencies within your operation.
  • It's not just about capturing bookings or keeping track of finance, but as technology evolves and expands, so does the need for your PMS to play an integral role in guest experience and loyalty management. Ideally, it should form the core of almost all hotel activity.
  • According to the 2016 Smart Decision Guide to Hotel Property Management Systems, the biggest benefits of having the right property management system include: Improved guest satisfaction and quality of the guest experience Streamlined hotel operations and reduced costs Increased hotel occupancy, revenue and profitability Improved performance reporting and business intelligence
  • ...7 more annotations...
  • A good PMS offers unprecedented visibility that allows you to take full control of your hotel's administration, and will come with a wide array of options when it comes to data report dashboards. Having said that, it's still important to find out what level of custom reporting is available to you before buying.
  • With the constant development of new technologies, having a PMS with a growing integration partner list is becoming more important. An integrated partner could be anything from a channel manager to a mobile app or online guest feedback system. Less integration opportunities could mean that you end up with data spread over a number of different applications, or having to settle for apps that don't serve your needs like they should.
  • It's important to have a clear understanding of the PMS platform's customer support process before making a buying decision. It's also important to consider what kind of training is provided to hotel staff who will be using the system for the first time. More than 80% of hoteliers agree that user training is a key success factor in getting the most out of a PMS.
  • Thanks to rapid developments in technology, PMS platforms today aren't nearly as expensive as their predecessors. However, whether you choose a cloud-based or traditional computer-based system for your hotel, it's important to find out if you'll be making any surprise payments down the road – some examples include future software updates, technical support, infrastructure or maintenance etc.
  • How much time your new PMS will save in terms of managing front desk activities, like check-ins and check-outs, consolidating guest accounts, and managing rates and availability across all of your different channels (OTAs, travel agents and so on) is a critical consideration to make.
  • Lastly, it's important to look at the company's track record before making a buying decision. Even if they've been in business for years, check their client base to determine how reliable they are. The last thing you want is to be promised the world, only to be let down by poor service delivery.
  • Does the solution offer flexibility in functionality, including data access and performance reporting? How easily and seamlessly does the PMS integrate with third-party technologies and data? How long will it take for problems to be resolved? What is the total cost of ownership? Are there "hidden" costs? What return on investment (ROI) can be expected? What is the PMS solution provider's track record of success?
  •
This article makes some key assertions regarding points of consideration when choosing a PMS software. Getting the right PMS software is absolutely critical for any property, as it is at the core of the operation. According to this author, the necessary considerations involve asking six questions: -Does the solution offer flexibility in functionality, including data access and performance reporting? -How easily and seamlessly does the PMS integrate with third-party technologies and data? -How long will it take for problems to be resolved? -What is the total cost of ownership? Are there "hidden" costs? -What return on investment (ROI) can be expected? -What is the PMS solution provider's track record of success? The inception of cloud computing and faster data processing has led to a number of choices in PMS software. Obviously these questions are not a fool-proof path to picking the perfect PMS software out of the multitude of options, but obviously being able to answer these with a level of confidence is a step in the right direction.
