Importance of the Management Information System | Chron.com - 3 views

  • Management Information Systems (MIS) not only include software systems, but the entire set of business processes and resources that are used to pull together information from functional or tactical systems.
  •
The article outlines the importance of the management information systems. The significances, functions, types, considerations and misconceptions are discussed. The first sentence of the article which is highlighted in yellow is the most crucial part of the article. MIS does not function as one entity, MIS works to service the entire set of business processes and resources within an organization. As MIS combines information from multiple system it gathers an array of information. The more suitable information, the more data that is available to be retrieved in order to assist with positive decision making. The data gathered by MIS is critical for managers. As MIS offers a full circle approach the manager has all the tools available to make a final decision. As noted in the article the primary function of MIS is to help managers take action and answer questions. The article notes MIS is created based on business needs. As no two businesses are 100 percent alike there would be differences in MIS depending on the needs of your organization. MIS should only be used and put into action if it makes business sense for the organization. If the costs will not return positive numbers MIS may not be the option for our organization. If MIS is suitable and has the ability to assist with your daily activities it may be a positive solution for your business. The article ends its overview with misconceptions. One misconception revolving around MIS is that for success to be driven all data must to be used. While it is positive to have an array of information it should always be the manager's role to take in the information and use it as necessary.

What a perfect analogy - the MIS can be compared to the role of the heart in the body. While large corporations are able to afford this, what I would consider a luxury in my world, I think most Executives or Directors find themselves playing this role without the desire to, or the recognition - and of course not to the level a MIS can produce/process I am sure. The MIS holds so much weight, it really could make or break your fiscal year should the wrong decision be made. This article is great at summing up such an important and not really spoken about position.
  •
Thank you for the great read. I enjoy how the article compares the MIS function to the heart in the body. With this direct comparison, we see how important MIS is to an organization. This is a great article in that it does certainly measure productivity of the industry's work force. Perhaps it will take a few years for any one who does not use the system to fail as a business, but I feel that it is more depending on the size of the business and caliber of the business itself. A little mom and pop business may not need MIS if they have established themselves and already created a brand within their community. Although a new place that is opening with a brand which is not established, MIS is perfect for them so they can cater to the clientele and become profitable by collecting data of things such as "repeat guests", "common items bought when", "trending combinations of items bought"- given what the business is and what it is selling. Overall, MIS is a very good tool to assist in building a brand either from scratch or bringing its profitability to the next level; therefore allowing the business to stay competitive.

This article summarize the positive and negative effects of MIS . It shows that MIS can help businesses , but if they do not pay attention or do not analyze well their data that could cost business thousands dollars.
  • ne of the problems with an MIS framework is that the quality of the system depends largely on the quality of its data. If the data is insufficient, incorrect or misplaced, the decisions that managers make based on that data can be faulty. For example, a business owner finds a client order of 100,000 units in the MIS system. He orders additional components from his suppliers to meet that order. However, the actual order was only for 10,000 units. The owner unwittingly over-orders the components, costing the company thousands of dollars.

  • Ultimately, if you want to provide a better service to your customers while reducing staff turnover cloud accounting may be the solution for you.
  •
Although short, I found this article incredibly interesting after learning about the MIS manager role. MIS managers are meant to keep track of information systems, making sure the results are correct and being implemented. Well, what if you had an "accountant" who did all that for you, and more? It seems cloud accounting is doing just that for any industry, including the hospitality sector. The cloud software is a system that brings all the company's information systems together under one virtual roof, this can include POS, payroll systems, and more. Not only does the cloud accountant promise more accurate data, but also saves time and money, allowing businesses to better service their guests.

shared by llaff002 on 01 Sep 19 - No Cached
  • Hotels take a big place in the market, so using manual system may lead to erroneous management. Therefore, using a computerized system is more efficient. This system can't operate alone in a hotel because it concentrates mainly on reservation processes. The system needs an accounting system and a management information system so it can serve all the needs of the hotel effectively.
  • Hotels need to deliver services and solutions focused on each customer’s needs, with particular emphasis on serving their customers more effectively. They also need to integrate three core disciplines in providing solutions and services to their customers: Business Integration,. Systems Integration and Applications Development,. Information Technology and Infrastructure Services.
  • So, the front office manager should take decisions about the reservations which can be supported by the computerized system. This system provides many tools that the front office manager could use in taking his decision for allocating rooms and reserve for groups.
  •
This journal article looks at MIS systems in hotels. The author's purport that the hotel industry is growing exponentially and that if management teams are to remain competitive, they must have information available, in real time, to support their decisions. Additionally, they believe information regarding individuals who book rooms for business or pleasure, often enable managers to offer personal services to their travelers. Companies who are able to afford software or MIS managers can see a gain in repeat business and travelers based on their ability to deliver gold standard service and amenities that will differentiate them from their competition.

The "human error" is removed by collecting data and not only eliminating any mistakes a human may use in relaying the information, but also allowing the information to travel faster through "real time" conveying of the data. This helps significantly if the guest travels often and fast before the data could be submitted manually.

Top 10 Technology Trends for 2020 - Towards Data Science - 0 views

  • Hyper-automation elevates task automation to the next level. It is the application of advanced technologies like Artificial intelligence (AI) and Machine learning (ML) to automate processes (not just tasks) in ways that are significantly more impactful than that of traditional automation capabilities. It’s the combination of multiple machine learning, packaged software and automation tools to deliver work. Hyper-automation requires a combination of tools to help support replicating pieces of where the human is involved in a task. This trend kicked off with robotic process automation (RPA) but will see growth with the combination of process intelligence, content intelligence, AI, OCR and other innovative technology.

Complex edge devices, including robots, drones, autonomous vehicles, and operational systems will accelerate this shift”.
  • Autonomous Things are the physical devices that use artificial intelligence to automate functions previously performed by humans.
  • The most recognizable current forms of autonomous things are robots, drones, autonomous vehicles, and appliances. The automation of these things goes beyond the automation provided by rigid programming models, and they exploit AI to deliver advanced behaviors that interact more naturally with their environments and with people.

  • Recognizing “practical blockchain” is important here: while blockchain has been around for a few years, it’s been slow to be commercially deployed because of some of the technical and management issues in the technology. Blockchain has the potential to reshape industries by enabling trust, providing transparency and enabling value exchange across business ecosystems, potentially lowering costs, reducing transaction settlement times and improving cash flow and the movement of materials.
