The Harvard-Yenching Library holds some 5,000 photographs and 10,000 negatives taken by Hedda Hammer Morrison (1908-1991) while resident in Beijing from 1933 to 1946. The photographs, mounted in thematic albums prepared by Mrs. Morrison, and the negatives, were bequeathed to the Harvard-Yenching Library, "the best permanent home for her vision of a city and people that she loved [Alastair Morrison]."

One of the excellent collections now provided by Harvard libraries.

Since the invention of photography in 1839, libraries, museums, research institutes, and academic departments at Harvard and Radcliffe have created and collected photographs for use in research and instruction. Among these millions of images are more than 3,500 daguerreotypes, the first publicly-announced photographic process

Another one of the precious collections provided by that most excellent of libraries, Harvard University Library. It's so great that they don't just lock it up and be snobs. Good on them.

Contains thousands of documents from the Nuremberg Trials. Search function is excellent, too. Very organised. I like organised.

The Harvard Law School Library has approximately one million pages of documents relating to the trial of military and political leaders of Nazi Germany before the International Military Tribunal (IMT) and to the twelve trials of other accused war criminals before the United States Nuremberg Military Tribunals (NMT). The documents, which include trial transcripts, briefs, document books, evidence files, and other papers, have been studied by lawyers, scholars, and other researchers in the areas of history, ethics, genocide, and war crimes, and are of particular interest to officials and students of current international tribunals involving war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Studies in Scarlet presents the images of over 420 separately published trial narratives from the Harvard Law School Library's extensive trial collections.

Over 1000 photos of Muslims and Christian missionaries working among them in Western China in the 1920s and 1930s form the core of this collection, which is supplemented by several hundred books, pamphlets, broadsides, etc., in several languages.

An obscure topic, however might be useful. Especially given the recent trouble in Western China.

Concentrating heavily on the 19th century, Immigration to the United States, 1789-1930, includes approximately 1,800 books and pamphlets as well as 9,000 photographs, 200 maps, and 13,000 pages from manuscript and archival collections.

No information on how much is there, but going on the quality of the other source sites provided by Harvard Libraries it should be quite extensive.

The Joseph Berry Keenan Digital Collection-comprised of manuscript materials and photographs-offers researchers invaluable insight into the Japanese War Crimes Trial -- one of the most important trials of the twentieth century.

The Library's collection of more than 500 broadsides is one of the largest recorded and the first to be digitized in its entirety. The examples digitized here span the years 1707 to 1891 and include accounts of executions for such crimes as arson, assault, counterfeiting, horse stealing, murder, rape, robbery, and treason. Many of the broadsides vividly describe the results of sentences handed down at London's central criminal court, the Old Bailey, the proceedings of which are now available online at http://www.oldbaileyonline.org.

It's a rather obscure topic but you never know, they might be useful for someone. Most of the manuscripts are partial and are from the Roman period in Egypt.

1999 High School History Quiz The American Council of Trustees and Alumni, a Washington-based nonprofit group that promotes liberal-arts study, posed 34 high-school level questions randomly to 556 seniors at 55 leading colleges and universities, including Harvard, Princeton and Brown. Only one student answered all the questions correctly, and the average score was 53 percent.

Might be useful for research into classical music or c18th/c19th European high culture.

The scores and libretti in this Virtual Collection include first and early editions and manuscript copies of music from the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries by J.S. Bach and Bach family members, Mozart, Schubert and other composers, as well as multiple versions of nineteenth century opera scores, seminal works of musical modernism, and music of the Second Viennese School.

The primary focus of the collectors was botanical, yet there are many images of people, landscapes and towns and cities of the period.

There's not much here really, just a few images of archaeological sites and artefacts from Korea but given that's not a place you see much about I've included them. When I lived there I visited the significant sites but usually they were uninspiring and accompanied by a sign that read something like: 'This is [insert Korean place name] which was destroyed by the evil marauding Japanese in [insert year]'.
