I found this via the IFLS (ask me in person for the full name, it contains expletives) facebook page. It is so exciting to see that the word is getting out the video games are not bad at all!

Back to the basics: "Studies show that positive feelings can enhance students' attention and higher-order thinking skills, as well as encouraging perseverance."

A timely reminder for educators who are seeking to motivate students. I seem to recall the center of 'Flow' to be focused on happiness so if this excessive motivation to do well comes at the expense of one's health, then perhaps it's good to take some time to reflect on what the real benefit is. This article provides a great overview of the new technologies profiled at SXSW and makes the case that it's now cheaper than ever before to bring prototypes to market. The author notes, "The dropping costs of designing and building inventive new hardware products has prompted a wave of creativity and innovation that echoes the software boom a decade or two ago in Silicon Valley." Makes me wonder... what's next?

As usual, Tom Friedman finds a really snazy way to say some really cool things... but he also leaves out the 'grey" areas. 

Thanks for sharing this Lisa. I think the last sentence in the article is where the real challenge is because the outstanding is not that easily available in MOOCs.

A look at a nascent, controversial program where students bring their own technologies to school… An interesting quote from the article: "And while district administrators worried initially that poorer students would not own devices, they discovered something of 'an inverse relationship' between family income and the sophistication of their devices, particularly smartphones, said Don Boulware, the district's director of technology services."
