How This Influenced my Thinking: This made me think about how infants use this as a method of learning; after observing an object until it is instilled in memory and moving along to newer objects and stimuli further their knowledge. Its the beginning of their being "scientists" and observing their environment and assessing it. How This Influenced My Thinking: Makes the idea of ZPD and scaffolding very clear in my mind and reinforced the importance of this idea. DVD Author: power-babies-youtube video Date: March 24, 2011 Why relevant and summary:The process of habituation is very crucial to our cognitive development and ability to function in the world. This clip shows the activity how it is performed and how the data is collected and the graph plotted. I think it is very interesting watching what we learn how it is actually done in practice and also how it occurs naturally. How this influenced my thinking: It has made my belief stronger on the ability our children have to perform cognitive tasks at a much earlier age than previously thought. Credibility of source: This DVD is put together by a psychologist with a PhD in experimental psychology and cognitive science.

Title: Piagets Codnitive Developmental Theory Author:Kathleen M. Thies and John F. Travers Date Published:2001 Why Relevant and Summary:This book I found online goes over all of Piegets stages of development and touches on all the substages as well. I used it specifically for definitions such as mental structures and schemes, but it is useful for understanding every aspect of the theory. How This Influenced My Thinking: This enhanced my understanding of piagets theory and gave me good examples to relate the theory to. Credibility of Source: it is an online textbook, which has been analyzed and published so I think it is pretty reliable.

They also go into explaining the nine temperament traits and give examples of each. How This Influenced My Thinking: I never really thought much about how important temperament was in children as well as goodness-of-fit when it came to the child's biology and their environment. Credibility of Source: very credible video featuring Thomas and Chess discussing temperament and their proposed concept of goodness-of-fit.

Why Relevant and Summary: This covers the basics of what temperament is, and how to tell what temperament a child might fall under. It describes the different traits of temperament and how to react to them. How this Influenced my Thinking: I wasn't aware of how many various traits a child can have that can determine their temperament, i generally believed you either had a well-behaved child, or a fussy child. This gives more dimension to temperament and shows how there are varying levels to a temperament as well. Credibility of Source: Has references; linked to Ohio State University; somewhat dated information, but information that is still relevant.

How This Influenced My Thinking: It helps my thinking because I'm able to see what kind of parenting style I have, what the temperaments of my children are and how I can match them so that my children are succeeding in life. How This Influenced My Thinking: It helped me better understand what temperament in a child can influence development. Credibility of Source: Credible, the article by Dr. Meyers seemed to be thoroughly researched and well written in a way that was reader friendly.

It not only provides you with a definition of each term, but also gives you information on Vygotsky, and provides you with sample learning scenarios that help you to better understand his theory. how this influenced my thinking- This webpage gave me insight on what are good ways of teaching someone a new task. The author encourages finding toys that support development across all domains - cognitive development, fine motor, gross motor, language, etc. How this influenced my thinking: When I first sat down to right the short critical thinking assignment on cognition and toys, it did not even occur to me to write about home-made toys such as a simple first puzzle made out of a muffin tin and some small objects, yet in reality, things found around the house make some of the best toys - ones that really engage babies and toddlers and are truly beneficial to child development.
