This research provides an overview of the parenting styles presented by Diana Baumrind, and their impact on adolescent development. How this influenced my thinking: These parenting concepts really interest me and inspired me to reflect on the several parenting styles I encountered as a child moving through a variety of foster homes. It also gave me quite a lot to think about in regards to how I parent my own children. Often I question whether or not a child having grown up in such an unstable environment as I did, is able to be a healthy and 'good' parent. However, after reading through these parenting styles, I have realized that my parenting style is natural, healthy and has a good balance of warmth and discipline. It gives an example of a college student using ZPD. This is very helpful especially if you don't understand the ZPD concept and if you're having trouble relating it to your life. How this influenced my thinking: This article definitely helped me have a better understanding of what ZPD is. I was having trouble relating to ZPD since the textbook mostly talks about children but in the article the author uses a college student as an example.
