It talks about, changes in body shape, breasts, body hair and changes going on in the mind. It talks about menarche, getting enough sleep, sexuality, dealing with dating etc. Most importantly, the website talks about protecting yourself, if your sexually active and how important it is to seek medical care such as seeing a gynocologist. How This Influenced My Thinking: I think it is great that this information is presented appropriately for young girls to utilize and educate themselves on what is going on within their bodies as well as reassuring them that this is all normal and happens to all of us. I'm glad that this information is readily available to girls that perhaps do not have relationships with their parents to discuss these topics. Credibility of Source: Yes, this website is managed by : The Office of Woman's Health, Office of Assistant Secretary for Health and the US Department of Health and Human Services.

Title: Kohlberg Author: Saul McLeod Date Published: 2011 Why Relevant and Summary: This article found on simplypsychology.org gives a descriptive over view of each of the 6 moral stages theory by Lawrence Kohlberg. It also discusses the criticism of his theory by Gilligan. Gilligan claimed that women and men were determined using the same standard because original studies were solely based on men. Gilligan says women approach situations from an "ethics of care" rather than from and "ethics of justice" ..changing the stage that women and men most often ended up in. How This Influenced My Thinking: It gave me a better understanding of the way that Kohlberg approached this study and how Gilligan opposed the findings. The article was very clear and presented the information to be easily understood. Credibility of Source:Somewhat -Credible citations were used in the writing of this article.

Why Relevant and Summary: This article discusses a study that was done show a relationship with stress and Caregiving. In particular, one the study proved that Caregivers reported having lower overall health ratings due to stress. How This Influenced My Thinking: After reading the article I never realized How much stress Caregivers go through taking Care of someone else. In contrast, I have always thought Caregiver had a fairly easy job besides the minor lifting of the patient and cleaning them. Credibility of Source: The author is a Therapist

How this influenced my thinking: It really surprised me to see that we have a big hand in how we age. The better we take care of ourselves the better our old age will be. Credibility: Seems credible

Its origins, its beliefs, its counterarguments, etc. How This Influenced My Thinking: It introduced into the world of successful aging and got me thinking about a theory I've never even heard of. The elderly begin to withdraw from activities they love because of an illness, for example. Little by little, they lose their independence and remove themselves from social networks. How this influenced my thinking:It's is sad to think that some elderly will withdraw themselves from society when they lose independence. It is important that as family, we keep in touch with our elderly family members and keep them as close to society as possible. Whether it be taking them to the park, grocery store, or just talking to them on a daily basis. Credibility of source: Seems credible. It includes all its sources.

Title: Caregiver Lives Rerouted Yet Enriched By Aging Parents Author: Sarah LeTrent Date Published: December 11, 2012 Why Relevant and Summary: Provides actual accounts of experiences with Caregiving for older relatives/parents. Identifies all the hassles that can come with taking on the responsibility but also recognizes all the rewards and the enriching, meaningful experience it can be. How This Influenced My Thinking: It forced me to look at the situation--Caregiving for an elderly parent/parents-- from both perspectives. I was able to understand how it affects both the children and the parents and able to understand the pros and cons. Credibility of Source: CNN News-- pretty credible.

It also briefly compares it to other theories of aging that eventually developed. How This Influenced My Thinking: It gave a nice background to how the Disengagement Theory came about. It also is a good reminder that theories can become outdated. Just because a popular opinion is also a theory, it does not necessarily make it factual or "right." Credibility of Source: OK. Provides scenarios with which to examine the Disengagement Theory; enabled me to understand the effects it had on the elderly individual. How This Influenced My Thinking: I was able to compare and contrast it to a very opposite theory in successful aging, the Activity Theory. It forced me to think of ways in which the Disengagement Theory could have positive outcomes and influences on an elderly individual and their surrounding environment. How This Influenced My Thinking: It influenced my thoughts only when speaking about how the mothers thoughts can affect the unborn baby after about 6 months because the mothers hormones cross the blood supply to the baby allowing the baby to be affected by these hormones. Title: Importance of prenatal sound and music Author: Giselle E Whitwell Date Published: It doesn't say Why Relevant and Summary: This was an amazing article! It was talking about the sound decibel of conversations or music outside of the womb. She goes to talking about how a baby might respond when the mother is in a certain environment and sometimes, what the effects may be after birth. How This Influenced My Thinking: While some of this is common knowledge, I never really knew or understood the importance of sound and how detrimental it can be in later stages of childhood. I see it now in my own children. I played a lot of music when I was pregnant and my kids love listening to it and dancing to it. Sometimes, you just don't think about these things. This article talks about bonding and how it really affects both the child and the parent. Its relevant because it's an important part of pregnancy, communicating and bonding while in the womb. This article also gives examples of what a positive environment might look like when bonding has taken place in the womb, and what it looks like after birth. How This Influenced My Thinking: It shows me that singing and talking to your belly is absolutely okay. Some people don't rub their belly or talk to their baby and sometimes, that can cause a slight disconnection in bonding when the baby is born. It will be something I keep in mind for my next pregnancy. Credibility of Source: This information is given on a Kids Health page and was reviewed by an M.D.

How This Influenced My Thinking: I already knew about it, but actually having a study to support this claim, made it even more reliable. I think studies like this influence future parents in their quest to stimulate their babies learning in the womb. Credibility of Source: It was publish in the health and science section of the New York Times, and the study is conducted by a University.

Title: Babies Seem to Pick Up Language in Utero Author: Nicholas Bakalar Date: 07 January 2013 Why Relevant and Summary: This article talks about the researches and experiments that are taking place to give people more information on how babies pick up language while still in the womb. Babies hear their mother's voice all the time after about 30 weeks. Once the baby is born he/she knows their mother's voice because it is so familiar. The babies that are involved in the studies have pacifiers that have tape recorders embedded in them to record the sucking noise. How This Influenced My Thinking: I have always heard that it is good for babies to listen to classical music because it increases their learning abilities, but to know that prenatal learning is important and has a positive effect blew my mind. Credibility of Source: Credible, it is from a newspaper, in which the article is peer reviewed and it talks about research.

Title: Faith's Story: In Utero Fetal Surgery for Repair of Spina Bifida Author: No author, video Date uploaded: 2012 Why relevant: Further expounds on the class discussion that we had about surgery in utero to repair spina bifida. Is an interesting video talking, there isn't a great deal of technical information, but it is still pretty good How this influenced my thinking: It made me think more about the development process that a fetus goes through and to think about how important is is to be healthy while pregnant. Even though the causes of spina bifida are unknown, it is still good maintain a healthy lifestyle. Credibility of source: There isn't much technical information, it is more the story of a couple who had surgery in utero to try and correct birth defects
