It talks about, changes in body shape, breasts, body hair and changes going on in the mind. It talks about menarche, getting enough sleep, sexuality, dealing with dating etc. Most importantly, the website talks about protecting yourself, if your sexually active and how important it is to seek medical care such as seeing a gynocologist. How This Influenced My Thinking: I think it is great that this information is presented appropriately for young girls to utilize and educate themselves on what is going on within their bodies as well as reassuring them that this is all normal and happens to all of us. I'm glad that this information is readily available to girls that perhaps do not have relationships with their parents to discuss these topics. Credibility of Source: Yes, this website is managed by : The Office of Woman's Health, Office of Assistant Secretary for Health and the US Department of Health and Human Services.

How this influenced my thinking: I have found some good resources and easy tips on how to help children manage weight. Credibility: very credible government website with citation of resources.

Title: Violent Video Games Are a Risk Factor for Criminal Behavior and Aggression Author: Matt Delisi, Craig Anderson, Douglas Gentile, Angie Hunt Date: March 26, 2013 Why relevant and summary: I'll be discussing whether or not violent video games should be banned in this critical thinking assignment, and this is a study that supports my view that violent video games should be banned. How this influenced my thinking: It reinforced what I believe: violent media should be restricted. Violent video games should be banned. Parents need to take responsibility for what they are letting their kids interact with. Did excessive playing of violent video games cause Adam Lanza to massacre 26 innocent souls? It was definitely a significant factor, coupled with serious mental health problems. This article encouraged me to also see that there may be a middle ground between banning the games and free access. Maybe some educational resources for parents need to be made publicly available and easily accessible, so that they have the tools they need to discourage/disallow violent media in the home.

It talks about the basic respect that partners need to show each other. It says that a happy marriage means respecting your spouse. It also discusses healthy ways to resolve conflicts step by step with a spouse. How This Influenced My Thinking: This article made a great point - that true compatibility doesn't exist, so shrug off the little stuff. It says that irreconcilable differences are normal and we shouldn't try to resolve or unresolve but rather come to terms with them and except the differences between you and your partner. I often feel that if you are unhappy because of disagreements that will never be resolved -then you should leave. But the point that we should just except these disagreements and cherish the stronger aspects of a relationship has changed my thinking on this. For example, Dowling says, "go to bed angry if you want to" because you're better off getting a good night's sleep before tackling the conflict again. Another good tip is to remember that every relationship is unique and it is damaging to compare yours to other relationships. I think the other gives some pretty solid, yet basic marriage advice that couples considering marriage should read. How this influenced my thinking: I have been married and divorced, and am in another relationship that is progressing toward marriage. I hope to avoid the mistakes made in my first marriage, so articles like this one apply directly to my personal life. However, no matter how good the advice is, you've got to make sure you're marrying someone you can absolutely be with through thick and thin. It discusses the facts of what will be happening to the body as a women ages and how to deal with accepting the fact that changes are happening. How This Influenced My Thinking: This article discusses many aspects in ones life that can affect the way a women feels about herself at 50. It made a good point that if you have compulsive thoughts about aging you will start to drive yourself crazy - a thought that will make you feel like you are living to the tic-toc of the clock. How this influenced me: It helps me to look at my life because I fear turning 30! I can't imagine the types of things I may feel when I get to my 40's. How This Influenced My Thinking: this made me realize that age is more than just a number to some people. there are many clinical trials where age is involved, such as surveys for a specific group. it also made me realize that people deal with age differently, some are sad and depressed, while others welcome it like an old friend. Identifies all the hassles that can come with taking on the responsibility but also recognizes all the rewards and the enriching, meaningful experience it can be. How This Influenced My Thinking: It forced me to look at the situation--caregiving for an elderly parent/parents-- from both perspectives. I was able to understand how it affects both the children and the parents and able to understand the pros and cons. Credibility of Source: CNN News-- pretty credible.

How this changed my thinking: I saw that even with how destructive divorce can be on a child this can help them to cope. Credibility: Seems credible.

How this influenced my thinking: This information strengthened my awareness about how important it is for  a caregiver to take care of themselves. Credibility of source: this information supported previous information and sources I was already familiar with.

Sokol Date Published: March 1, 2009 Why Relevant and Summary: Erikson's theories are relevant to almost all types of research on identity development. Identity development is a life-span process, as Eriksonian theories suggest. This particular publication is an in depth examination of Erikson's theories on identity development: identification in early childhood, Identity formation in adolescence, identity development in adulthood. How This Influenced My Thinking: I agree with the research: Identity development is an ongoing process that continues through adulthood. I see examples of this looking over my childhood, adolescence and adulthood so far. At 32 years old, I can honestly agree with Erikson's theories on identity development - I feel as though my identity (though does not change drastically anymore) certainly continues to develop. Its focus on social and psychological impact, show how the influence of social media is effecting and changing our culture and sense of self. Current data of emerging trends, is stated clearly, logically, and within the standards of psychological research. A handy table of contents allows the reader to explore varying and related sub-topics with ease. How this influenced my thinking: This paper presents many terms which are relevant to this topic, but of which I was previously unaware of. The writer cites other published articles dealing with this new phenomenon. Title: Bonding with your baby Author: Kids Health. Reviewed by Larissa Hirsch, MD Date Published: January 2012 Why Relevant and Summary: In our format, he asks us to give information on bonding and survival after birth. This article talks about bonding and how it really affects both the child and the parent. Its relevant because it's an important part of pregnancy, communicating and bonding while in the womb. This article also gives examples of what a positive environment might look like when bonding has taken place in the womb, and what it looks like after birth. How This Influenced My Thinking: It shows me that singing and talking to your belly is absolutely okay. Some people don't rub their belly or talk to their baby and sometimes, that can cause a slight disconnection in bonding when the baby is born.
