It briefly states the pros and cons of breastfeeding and bottle feeding. This site will be very helpful if one is doing their paper on Breastfeeding and culture. How This Influenced My Thinking: I took a child development class a few years ago, so this article definitely helped me remember the pros and cons of breastfeeding and bottle feeding. Credibility of Source: This website is from the American Pregnancy Association so I definitely think this page is credible due to the name of the site and because it is an organization.

Title: Exclusive Breastfeeding for 6 Months Best for Babies Everywhere Author: No Author (World Health Organization) Date Published: 15 January 2001 Why Relevant and Summary: This statement from the WHO recommends that babies be exclusively breastfed for 6 months (no supplementation) based on the evidence from a recent 2009 study. The WHO also recommends that infants/toddlers continue to be breastfed for two years or more. The statement also covers some of the benefits of breastfeeding for both mother and baby. How This Influenced My Thinking: Breastfeeding long term is biologically normal, but not socially normal. The more we see the benefits and see mothers continuing to breastfeed, the more socially normal it will become. Credibility of Source: The World Health Organization is credible and bases it's statements off of research findings.

It especially highlights its capabilities to stop disease and build up the immune system. How This Influenced My Thinking: This helped me more scientifically understand why breast milk helps build up our immune systems with the antibodies, white blood cells, etc. Credibility of Source: healthy children's website seems reliable.

This article talked about why women choose to have homebirths, the cases where it would not be recommended and how to prepare for a homebirth How it influenced my thinking: It didn't change my thinking, but it was a good reference and confirmed some of the things that I said.

Author: Kid's Health Date Published: Last Updated 10/12 Why Relevant and Summary: This website gives an explanation of how early puberty is seen in today's children. It goes into detail on the consequences of starting puberty at a young age, such as engaging in risky behavior and in growth problems. How This Influenced My Thinking: This website definitely made me aware of how children as young as seven are starting puberty. As a kid one usually looks up to kids who have a deep voice or girls who develop breast early, and this website made me realize that those kids whom everyone admires, are at risk of having health problems later on in life. Credibility of Source: This website seems to be credible because it does give a lot of information about kids health, and it was also reviewed by a M.D.

How this influenced my thinking: This really explained how important it is to make sure co-sleeping is right for both you and your significant other. Title: Fetal response to induced maternal stress. Author: DiPietro JA, Costigan KA, Gurewitsch ED. Date Published: Nov. 2003 Why Relevant and Summary: This study and other publications by DiPietro show an amazing knowledge of fetal development and the stress reaction from the fetus when mom is stressed. DiPietro also has done work with mother and the fetus bonding during pregnancy. How This Influenced My Thinking: I have 3 kids so nothing he said actually surprised me. Credibility of Source: Very Credible

Title: Habituation - The Most Basic Form of Learning Author: Kendra Cherry Date Published: no date Why Relevant and Summary: I found this short excerpt helpful in defining habituation, but also explaining how this process is a method of learning for infants. How This Influenced my Thinking: This made me think about how infants use this as a method of learning; after observing an object until it is instilled in memory and moving along to newer objects and stimuli further their knowledge. Its the beginning of their being "scientists" and observing their environment and assessing it. Credibility of Source: recognized the journalist, informational website with section for Psychology and has other topics about infant development

Title: about _ temperament Author: seaner4949 Date Published: February 15 2009 Why Relevant and Summary: Great video where Alexander Thomas and Stella Chess discuss temperament qualities in children. They also go into explaining the nine temperament traits and give examples of each. How This Influenced My Thinking: I never really thought much about how important temperament was in children as well as goodness-of-fit when it came to the child's biology and their environment. Credibility of Source: very credible video featuring Thomas and Chess discussing temperament and their proposed concept of goodness-of-fit.

How This Influenced My Thinking: Makes the idea of ZPD and scaffolding very clear in my mind and reinforced the importance of this idea. Credibility of Source: Credible- published by The Canadian Center of Science and Education

Title: Vygotsky Development & Zone of Proximal Dev & Constructivist Author: Professor Indiana Date published: 20May2010 Why relevant and summary: This video is relevant because it describes Vygotsky's theory of Zone of Proximal Development and gives good examples. This video shows how young children can be taught not only by teachers and adults but by their peers who are slightly more advanced than them.You are able to witness both Scaffolding and guided participation within this segment. How this influenced my thinking: It gave me a better understanding of Vygotsky's theory. Credibility of Source: it was published by a professor.

How This Influenced My Thinking: Helped understand different catagories. Credibility of Source: Very High

Title: Temperament and Your Child's Personality Author: LLC and Dr. Myers Date Published: 2012 Why Relevant and Summary: This article gives a great explanation of what temperament is and how is affects your child, your child's development as well as you. How This Influenced My Thinking: It helped me better understand what temperament in a child can influence development. Credibility of Source: Credible, the article by Dr. Meyers seemed to be thoroughly researched and well written in a way that was reader friendly.

Title: Mother-Baby Behavioral sleep Laboratory Author: James McKenna Date Published: 2013 Why Relevant and Summary: Sharing your bed with your infant is a controversial issue, that has opponents and supporters. Dr McKenna has been studying sleep patterns of the infant for over 30 years and highly supports and recommends co sleeping if done properly. There are steps that he explains and the video is really good. How This Influenced My Thinking: I have practiced bed sharing with both my boys when they were infants and it was a very wonderful and beneficial experience for all of us. I am glad research supports it, despite media trying to make it a big issue. Credibility of Source:

Why Relevant and Summary:Describes everything from grasping skills to cognitive development and why babies do what they do at certain ages. It is very descriptive and tells you why babies play with certain toys and how it affects their thinking. How This Influenced My Thinking:I know a lot more about how and why babies play with certain toys. Credibility of Source:Somewhat credible as seeing as there is an author and other links reguarding more information if needed.

Title: Mary Ainsworth and Attachment Theory Author: Richard Brodie Date Published: 2012 Why Relevant and Summary: This website has a good video that shows secure attachment with an infant and her mother. It also discusses the other types of attachment; Anxious-Ambivalent Insecure Attachment and Anxious-Avoidant insecure attachment. How this influenced my thinking: This web based article allowed me to get a deeper understanding of the three different types of attachment that Ainsworth studied. Title: Childhood ADHD Often Persist Into Adulthood Author: Megan Brooks Date:March 4, 2012 Why Relevant and Summary: this article is relevant because it explains a lot about ADHD and how it can affect a child with ADHD into adulthood. How this influenced my thinking: This made me realize that ADHD could affect an dult to the point of suicide. Credibility:it came from WedMD and was recently published.

It talks about the types of ADHD and the symptoms. It also has a section where it discusses ADHD in adults, and what it is in adults. It also discusses what causes ADHD and how to determine if someone around you has ADHD. How this influenced my thinking: I know a lot more about ADHD. Credibility of Source: It seems credible it cites other soruces.

Title: Causes of ADHD Author: No Author Date Published: No date Why Relevant and Summary: Has good information on what parts of the brain are affected by ADHD, also talks about what does (and does not cause) ADHD How This Influenced My Thinking:It was interesting to read and gave some information of parts of the brain affected by ADHD that was not in the textbook Credibility of Source: It is from a website that talks about ADHD, there is no listed author (or date), but it does include sources in the article.

Ehrlich, NMD Why Relevant and Summary: This article gives a good overview of ADHD, signs and symptoms, treatment and provides research about how ADHD affects the brain and the treatments that can be provided to diagnosed individuals. How This Influenced My Thinking: It makes me think that ADHD is way more common than I realized. Credibility of Source :It is a credible source- it comes from The University of Maryland Medical Center. Has many repitable sources listed.
