This article has a real life perspective of people going through the motions of caring for and making decisions for their elderly parents. Times of caring for the parents were described in depth from the perspective of the adult caregiver. This article gives a great outlook on the emotional roller coaster that the adult caregiver goes on and how this affects her deeply. How This Influenced My Thinking: This article made me really think about how difficult it would be to care for an elderly adult that is affected by dementia or Alzheimer's disease. How This Influenced My Thinking: this made me realize that age is more than just a number to some people. there are many clinical trials where age is involved, such as surveys for a specific group. it also made me realize that people deal with age differently, some are sad and depressed, while others welcome it like an old friend. Credibility: there are many resources to back up this information on this website. seems pretty credible.

How this influenced my thinking: This article gave me a better understanding of how children's body mass index was calculated. Credibility of source: well known website that is frequently used to answer questions.

How can we help them to overcome obesity? How it influenced my thinking: This helps me to realize how truly important it is to emphasize that this a lifestyle change, not a diet. We want our children to understand the importance of health and exercise and that short amount of efforts will not reap long term gains. Credibility: Very. The authors provide citations for the research study as well as other resources.

How This Influenced My Thinking: It influenced my thoughts only when speaking about how the mothers thoughts can affect the unborn baby after about 6 months because the mothers hormones cross the blood supply to the baby allowing the baby to be affected by these hormones. Title: How people make their own environments: a theory of genotype → environment effects Author: Sandra Scarr and Kathleen McCartney Date Published: April 1983 Why Relevant and Summary: This is relevant because it goes into much further detail about the genotype → environment effects theory compared to the book. This article proposes that a child's genotype can "directly affect its rearing environment," which is a point that was not as explicit in the textbook. Overall, this article emphasizes a greater role of genotype influence in the process of human development. How This Influenced My Thinking: This influenced my thinking by taking on a more opinionated perspective on the genotype → environment effects theory. The class textbook takes on a very objective approach to explaining, and this article takes it a step further by adding onto it. Although this article is outdated, it still provided me with a new train of thought. I found this to be an interesting article, but at times, hard to read. Credibility of Source: Very good (though outdated).

Credibility of Source: I believe it to be moderately credible since it is under the yahoo mental health tab bar. It was written by a yahoo network contributor.

Title: Faith's Story: In Utero Fetal Surgery for Repair of Spina Bifida Author: No author, video Date uploaded: 2012 Why relevant: Further expounds on the class discussion that we had about surgery in utero to repair spina bifida. Is an interesting video talking, there isn't a great deal of technical information, but it is still pretty good How this influenced my thinking: It made me think more about the development process that a fetus goes through and to think about how important is is to be healthy while pregnant. Even though the causes of spina bifida are unknown, it is still good maintain a healthy lifestyle. Credibility of source: There isn't much technical information, it is more the story of a couple who had surgery in utero to try and correct birth defects

How this influenced my thinking: I was able to get a more in depth understanding of Bronfenbrenners theory on influential factors that determines a child developmental outcomes. Title: Kohlberg's Stages of Moral Development Author: Devan Udall Date Published: June 25, 2011 Why Relevant and Summary: The information provided in this video is a clear, factual presentation of Kohlberg's Stages of Moral Development. In chapter eight of our Human Development textbook we will be discussing adolescence and will go over theories surrounding morality, Kohlberg's Theory of Moral Development is one of them. This video gives a brief introduction to Kohlberg's research and professional career. It presents The Stages of Moral Development as well as recorded interviews illustrating the Heinz Dilemma experiment. How This Influenced My Thinking: I found this reference video supporting some of my theories surrounding moral development. However, as I was doing more research I realized how many variables were not being considered in Kohlberg's Theory of Moral Development. As I challenged Kohlberg's theory on its broader application I thought about what research methods could be used to provide supportive evidence. Credibility of Source: I have found additional reference material that supports the information provided in this video.

Title: Milestones in Bilingual Children's Language Development Author: Annick De Houwer Date Published: 07/31/2012 Why Relevant and Summary: This is a relevant article because it is looking at language development, focusing on how children that grow up hearing two languages from infancy develop, and whether or not there are any discernible delays as children learn to process two languages. How This Influenced My Thinking: I thought that this was a very interesting article walking me through the developmental process of a bilingual child, I think that giving a child a chance to grow up with more than one language is very helpful, and this article supports my feelings. Title: Brain Keys Language Development Author: Beth Fleming Date Published: 2002 Why Relevant and Summary: This is relevant because it doesn't just breakdown step by step the stages of language development. But it gives examples as to what you can do. It gives research information. It tells you what you can do and what happens if you don't consistently talk to children. It encourages not only ways to help develop language, but to communicate. How This Influenced My Thinking: It influenced my thinking because of my own children. I talk to my children all the time NOW, but had I talked to them more and more when they were smaller, their development would be at different stage now. Author: Chaplinspeaks Date Published: March 24, 2012 Why relevant and Summary: While not necessarily referring to Bronfenbrenner's model specifically, she hit all of the same points as used in his model. She went into much more depth explaining not only the influences but also why it is likely to influence a child's development. How This Influenced My Thinking: This article didn't influence my thinking one way or another, because I found the same information in our textbook, but it did help me to understand the model in more depth because she thoroughly explained everything. Credibility of Source: I feel like this source is very credible. She has a MSW and seems to be very knowledgable and has done her research.
