Title: Violent Video Games Are a Risk Factor for Criminal Behavior and Aggression Author: Matt Delisi, Craig Anderson, Douglas Gentile, Angie Hunt Date: March 26, 2013 Why relevant and summary: I'll be discussing whether or not violent video games should be banned in this critical thinking assignment, and this is a study that supports my view that violent video games should be banned. How this influenced my thinking: It reinforced what I believe: violent media should be restricted. Violent video games should be banned. Parents need to take responsibility for what they are letting their kids interact with. Did excessive playing of violent video games cause Adam Lanza to massacre 26 innocent souls? It was definitely a significant factor, coupled with serious mental health problems. This article encouraged me to also see that there may be a middle ground between banning the games and free access. Maybe some educational resources for parents need to be made publicly available and easily accessible, so that they have the tools they need to discourage/disallow violent media in the home.

This is a must read!! How This Influenced Me: I felt like someone was in my head when I first heard Keith Olbermann deliver this "Special Comment". He so eloquently spoke directly from my heart. Title: When Parents and Teens Clash over Religion Author: Victoria Clayton Date Published: April 4, 2005 Why Relevant and Summary: This is an article regarding parents problems with their children when there is debate about the beliefs of their religion and when the child doesn't believe the same as the parents. There is some advice given to those parents as well as some facts regarding benefits and drawbacks of growing up with a religion. How This Influenced My Thinking: I have always believed growing up with a religion is important and that it does make a person more likely to associate their lives with positive things, but it is interesting to read and learn about some of the drawbacks Credibility of Source: this is an article from ABC news and it involves a person's actual experience.

Title: Kohlberg's Stages of Moral Development Author: No Author Date: No Date Why Relevant and Summary: This is a great break down of the different stages of Kohlberg's theory of moral development. How this influenced my thinking: It was great to read about Kohlberg's theory from sources outside of the textbook. This site breaks it down in a well-organized fashion and offers excellent descriptions and examples. Credibility of source: It appears to be featured on a college webpage, maybe put out by the psych department. Credibility of source: May or may not be credible. Appears to be a college professor's website.

How This Influenced My Thinking: It gave me some really good information about what to do and what not to do during a divorce. Credibility of Source: Very good

Especially in this global market where we trade with partners from all over the world, having an understanding of their culture and background better prepares us to make sound decisions. For those who study abroad gives them a great advantage to thrive and not feel outcasted and socially neglected. How this has influenced my thinking: I was not aware that CI was being studied and promoted and I think it is a great idea for our children to develop. D Date Published: November 17, 2009 Why Relevant and Summary: The University of Chicago has composed a chart/pathway that people in their middle and later adulthood can follow as they adapt to the challenges of aging. Some of those pathways that they included are as followed: Meandering way (a way to achieve unclear goals), and Straight and narrow path (life is characterized by predictability). How This Influenced My Thinking: I found this article to be ironic, simply because it his helps older adults to come over difficulties but the irony is that it is found online, which most older adults do not know how to use a computer. Credibility of Source: The article is very credible and written by a doctor.

The article covers different parts of the body and how age effect them. For example, the parts of the body the article covers is the cardiovascular system, bones, joints, and muscles. How This Influenced My Thinking: This article gave me a more in depth perception on how the choices we making in our middle adulthood can effect the life expectancy of our life. It discusses the facts of what will be happening to the body as a women ages and how to deal with accepting the fact that changes are happening. How This Influenced My Thinking: This article discusses many aspects in ones life that can affect the way a women feels about herself at 50. It made a good point that if you have compulsive thoughts about aging you will start to drive yourself crazy - a thought that will make you feel like you are living to the tic-toc of the clock. How this influenced me: It helps me to look at my life because I fear turning 30! I can't imagine the types of things I may feel when I get to my 40's. Women 50 and over should maintain stroing bones, a healthy heart, and seek preventative exams. How this influenced my thinking:It's important to have a proper inkate of calcium and vitamin D, but also doing weight-bearing exercises for strong bones. How this influenced my thinking: I have read through Chapman's book and found it quite helpful. I think this is a great resource for anyone in a relationship.
