Also contrasts and explains dishabituation. How This Influenced My Thinking: It encouraged me to think of experiences in my own life where I've habituated to a certain stimulus and maybe why I habituated to it. Credibility of Source: Unsure of credibility; made several outside references and cited correctly.

Morris Date Published: 2008 Why Relevant and Summary: Does a nice job in explaining autism, Asperger's, and related disorders. It identifies means for classification and diagnosis, associated characteristics and tendencies; what to expect from someone with one of these diseases. How This Influenced My Thinking: Educated me about autism, Asperger's, and related disorders... helped me to see from another perspective life with this kind of disorder. Credibility of Source: Pretty credible and valuable.

Author: Cristen Conger Date Published: April 7th, 2009 Why Relevant and Summary: It details the disengagement theory and discusses how the study that produced this theory began and how the scholarly community regarded this theory. It also briefly compares it to other theories of aging that eventually developed. How This Influenced My Thinking: It gave a nice background to how the Disengagement Theory came about. It also is a good reminder that theories can become outdated. Just because a popular opinion is also a theory, it does not necessarily make it factual or "right." Credibility of Source: OK. Title: What Is Disengagement Theory? Author: Cristen Conger Date Published: April 7, 2009 Why Relevant and Summary: Thoroughly explains the Disengagement Theory; identifies the positive and negative opinions of it and how it affects multiple relationships in the life of an elderly individual. Provides scenarios with which to examine the Disengagement Theory; enabled me to understand the effects it had on the elderly individual. How This Influenced My Thinking: I was able to compare and contrast it to a very opposite theory in successful aging, the Activity Theory. It forced me to think of ways in which the Disengagement Theory could have positive outcomes and influences on an elderly individual and their surrounding environment. How This Influenced My Thinking: It gave some fascinating statistics about aging adults and the aging process that I haven't thought of obviously, because I am only in my mid 20s. Title: Beginnings, Growth and Development Author: Dr. Mark Hill Date Published: 2010 Why Relevant and Summary: Many factors contribute to prenatal development: nutrition, health, environment, drug use, illness. Abnormalities are at greater risk of occurring during critical periods of development. This period is highest during the embryonic stage. By gathering research on what affects prenatal development, we can pinpoint when pregnant women are most at risk and the factors, thereby preventing congenital problems. How This Influenced My Thinking: It's very surprising how a span of 6 weeks can have such a life changing impact on a person before they're even born. It's crucial that women who are pregnant or may become pregnant be informed and get the proper care needed before and during a pregnancy. Credibility of Source: The publication comes form The University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia. This seems to have been created by one of the professors.

This is relevant because it explains prenatal care. How this Influenced my thinking: It coincided with what i already knew about prenatal care. i learned however that women should take folic acid even if unsure if they are pregnant, or if they are planning on getting pregnant Credibility of Source:part of U.S. department of health, women's health department.

It gives you tips and advice for prenatal development. It also gives you defenitions and good facts. How This Influenced My Thinking: This allowed me to see more of the preganancy side than anything else. I managed to read through it and find out that there are a lot of things you need to do while pregnant. Credibility: It came from Womenshealth.org, and a doctor wrote this, so I assume that it is very credible.

How This Influenced My Thinking: Provided important tips with which to keep in mind later on in life if this particular things will affect me. Title: Annie Murphy Paul: What we learn before we're born Author: Annie Murphy Paul. Date Published: 2011 Why Relevant and Summary: The journalist and mother expounds upon the different research and studies that give insight into what a fetus experiences and learns in-utero. How This Influenced My Thinking: The last part of this talk discusses the "Hunger Winter" study and how prenatal exposure to famine effected health in adult life, and how 9/11 fetuses of mother who experienced the trauma, had babies with greater susceptibility to PTSD. Credibility of Source: Highly credible with verifiable references

Title: Annie Murphy Paul: What we learn before we're born Author: Annie Murphy Paul. Date Published: Nov. 2011 Why Relevant and Summary: As a science reporter and mother Paul combined her experience as a pregnant woman with her love of research to write about what a fetus is learning in the womb and what a mother teaches through their shared experience. How This Influenced My Thinking: there was a lot of interesting and pertinent information shared within this video. The shared experiences of a mother are vast. A fetus learns from a mother's voice, food preferences, language and culture to environmental events such as famine, war, fear and stress.

Title: Brain Keys Language Development Author: Beth Fleming Date Published: 2002 Why Relevant and Summary: This is relevant because it doesn't just breakdown step by step the stages of language development. But it gives examples as to what you can do. It gives research information. It tells you what you can do and what happens if you don't consistently talk to children. It encourages not only ways to help develop language, but to communicate. How This Influenced My Thinking: It influenced my thinking because of my own children. I talk to my children all the time NOW, but had I talked to them more and more when they were smaller, their development would be at different stage now. It gives an example of each system and it also talks about a personal experience of how a teacher relates the ecological system to her classroom How This Influenced My Thinking: It influenced my thinks by giving me a better understanding of the concept and it gives good examples Credibility of Source: Not too sure about the credibility because it doesn't say where its comes from

Title:Readiness to change: A longitudinal study of changes in adult identity Author:Kristine Anthis , Joseph C. LaVoie Date Published: 2008 Why Relevant: This is a research article from the journal of research in personality which is a great source to begin with in regards to personality theory. This research article is a great example of the scientific research method and a great example of a longitudinal study. Its focus is also relevant to my topic which is identity formation and more specifically measures adult's readiness to change and its influence on identity formation How this influenced my thinking: I found the age range of the participants 22-60 to be interesting. It shines a light on the fact that identity it always changing no matter what age and stage in life a person is. I also found it interesting that they came up with two ways to measure readiness to change and that they discovered this to be a player in identity formation during adulthood. Credibility:High

The stages of development and description as to what is occurring and when development should occur. The milestones for speech and language development are given. There are signs for when children are learning to communicate with you. The differences between speech and language disorders. Included is a checklist for a baby's hearing. There are also problematic questions and answers. How This Influenced My Thinking: I was given an insight on how to record a child's development and information on what to do. This article helped think of ways other than signs in order to develop my paper. Credibility of Source: Credible. It is a government owned website.
