Toddler can now pedal trycicles and dress themselves with help. They also use language to express themselves. They have a better memory and love to play with other people. How this influenced my thinking:Well this stage is a great time to teach toddlers how to express their feelings properly and how to talk things out and take turns. Title: Suicidal Thoughts More Common in Kids With Autism: Study Date: 3/21/2013 Author: Amy Norton Why relevant and summary: This article reports on the findings of a scientific study published on the "Research in Autism Spectrum disorders" journal, that children on the spectrum have a higher chance of contemplating or thinking about suicide than their typical peers. This is especially pronounced in those families where the mothers are depressed as well and bulling happens in school. The author reports on both sides which support and are against such findings. How has this changed my thinking: As a mother of a child on the spectrum I am really concerned and interested in finding out how this disorder will affect him, as he grows and what can i do to help. Source credibility: This article was published on an online news magazine and reports findings published in an academic journal.

Title: Parenting Styles Author: Rose Allen, Joan Sprain Date Published: 2009 Why Relevant and Summary: It is relevant because it talks about the four different parenting styles that there are out there. and how to deal with them. There are four main parenting styles that are out there and each child was parented by at least one of them. How this influenced my thinking: It made me realize that there are more parenting styles out there than what how my parents parented me. It makes me happy that my parents parented me the way they did because i do not like the other type of parenting styles. It compares the obesity percentage of today's children with those of twenty years ago. It also gives a brief summary of how to deal with children who have obesity, and even includes a meal plan. How this influenced my thinking: This site influenced my thinking in the fact that I always thought that putting an obese child on a diet was the best solution, but this site mentions that one must not completely change their diets because they do need foods from different groups because they need it to grow. Credibility: This website seems credible since its from the government.

McKenna, Ph.D. Date Published: No Date Why Relevant and Summary: This webpage is very helpful if one is doing their Assignment on Co-sleeping It gives examples of countries who practice co-sleeping which involves the majority of the countries including the United States. Many people believe Americans don't practice co-sleeping but research shows that many Americans do. How This Influenced My Thinking: This webpage definitely helped me be more open about other cultures. I believed that only Latino families practiced co-sleeping, but it turns out that the majority of the world practices co-sleeping. Credibility of Source: This source seems credible due to the references that were used

It also talked about why co-sleeping is beneficial, what cultures favor it, and even provided a few statistics of the benefits of co-sleeping, and how common it is in the United States. How This Influenced My Thinking: This website didn't influence my thinking much because it spoke very highly of co-sleeping and i am already an advocate of it. Credibility of Source: The site seems credible because the information was backed with references.

How This Influenced My Thinking: I was never aware of cosleeping, at least to the extent with which it can occur. I was educated on the risks of cosleeping, which I never knew were possible. I was also introduced to SIDs. Credibility of Source: Source written by a doctor.

How This Influenced My Thinking: It taught me many things I didn't know about how many things happen inside the brain. Credibility of Source: It has different sources.

McKenna Ph.D. Date Published: October 1997 Why Relevant and Summary: This article brings up research about cosleeping (not from the past 10 years sadly). It brings up the links with SIDS and the benefits to the mother and child who practice co-sleeping. How this influenced my thinking: These findings showed me that there are benefits to co-sleeping and that bonding can take place while sleeping. Credibility of source: Ph.D. Research done at University of California's Irvine School of Medicine.

They also back up their information with research and scientific studies. How it Influenced My Thinking: I always thought cosleeping was unusual and did not know of many benefits, but this article changed my mind. Credibility :This is an international parenting group that does research on many child rearing and development topics.

It is actually useful information that I found to be interesting because there are things that even I did not know. How this Influenced My Thinking: It influenced my thinking by making me realize that middle childhood was perhaps the most important time in a child's life that mattered the most to them. looking back now at y middle childhood I can see why it was so important. that's the period in time where things changed for me and I know changed for every other kid around me. How This Influenced My Thinking: I have always believed growing up with a religion is important and that it does make a person more likely to associate their lives with positive things, but it is interesting to read and learn about some of the drawbacks Credibility of Source: this is an article from ABC news and it involves a person's actual experience.

It helps to focus on what can really affect the child when religion is involved in a family life. How this influenced my thinking: It just helps me to look at what I can help my children with when they reach that age and may be faced with these issues as well. Credibility of Source: I've used this site many times for references and it seems to be credible.

Gives a list of what to try to do, and what to avoid. How this Influenced my Thinking: This showed me that there are multiple reasons for divorce, and how children usually feel fear when they dont know what will be happening to their family. this also showed me that family divorce counseling might not always be favorable. Credibility: Empowering Parents website that won an iParenting media award. ideas, not straight facts.

There are good statistics and information on how to get help for a child that has been bullied How This Influenced My Thinking: It was good to look at the numbers and see how many children said they had been bullied because of their weight Credibility of Source: Taken from a website that is fighting obesity.

How This Influenced My Thinking: It influenced my thoughts only when speaking about how the mothers thoughts can affect the unborn baby after about 6 months because the mothers hormones cross the blood supply to the baby allowing the baby to be affected by these hormones.
