Part of Annenberg Learner, each series listed here has a selection of videos available for download. Topics range from surveys of American and World literatures, to teaching students to work with artifacts, to developing writers. Grade ranges vary by series. Production of these videos is supported by the Annenberg Foundation.

From the abstract, "we propose a new e-learning recommender system framework that uses content-based filtering and good learners' ratings to recommend learning materials, and in turn is able to increase the student's performance."

Created by the Annenberg Foundation, this site provides a variety of classroom resources for teachers, including Lesson Plans. Lesson plan database can be searched by grade level as well as subject area.

Created by Cheryl Carter (n.d.). as part of the Southern LINCS database. From the database's home page, LINCS is "a national electronic information and communication system for adult literacy." The lesson's stated objective is to help learners understand "registers of language,...distinguish between different registers...and utilize these registers for more effective communication." This lesson is based on Ruby Payne's work.

Website run by Skip Downing, author of On Course: Strategies for Success in College and in Life. The site provides practical applications of the On Course principles (free of charge). Strategies are designed with the goal of empowering students to become active, responsible learners. There are links to descriptions of workshops and to registration options.

KG took the On Course course and says "Skip's program changed my life and the way I deal with my students...."

This newly published guide raises questions about the meaning of assessment, and how more effective assessment (ideally taking advantage of current technologies) might also promote the idea of students becoming lifelong learners. There is a 13 minute podcast with Ros Smith, the author. The new guide can be downloaded by chapter, of full guide (as PDF or Word docs). Also, until Oct 31, 2010, printed copies can be ordered for free.

Like GSCC, NCAT was also the recipient of a Gates Foundation emerging technologies grant. NCAT will redesign developmental math courses in community colleges integrating technology and learner-centered pedagogy.

This site offers a searchable database of materials in a variety of subject areas, from Arts to Social Sciences, in all grade levels (Primary, Secondary, Post-secondary). As the site notes, "OER content is made free to use or share, and in some cases, to change and share again, made possible through licensing, so that both teachers and learners can share what they know."

This blog is written by Dean Groom, who has an interest in "embedding new pedagogical classroom practice to create authentic, realistic and relevant learning for today's learners." This post describes ways to make LMS (and online courses) more engaging, following a gaming/Xbox model.

"This article provides a rationale for incorporating the development of critical thinking skills into the online learning environment. The author also presents possibilities for building these cognitive skills into online classes. She maintains that incorporating critical thinking skills is a necessary component of learning; these skills assist learners to evaluate and link the abundance of information and ideas that is available via information communication technologies (ICTs). "

Presented on P2PU (Peer 2 Peer University), "a grassroots open education project," this new course on online, self-directed learning is being presented by Anya Kamenetz. In this particular course, participants are directed through the processes of writing a personal learning plan, building a personal learning network, and finding a mentor, all while sharing the process with their fellow learners. Unlike many of the other P2PU courses (which have a more topical focus), this is open to those who want to learn on any subject.

This paper sets out to demonstrate that creativity can be fostered in learners through use of such Web 2.0 technologies, and in particular, through tagging and its social form, folksonomy.
