5 Reasons You Should Make Your Kid's Halloween Costume | GeekDad | Wired.com - 0 views

  •
Maybe this has nothing to do with computers, but you really should take a look and think about this. Make your own costume for Halloween. it's more creative, original, and more fun, plus it'll save you money, and maybe you're saving up for the new iPhone . Nothing to do with technology, but it could help in the long run. i think.

Throwable Camera Creates 360-Degree Panoramic images - 0 views

  •
Cameras are so annoying. Like, you have to HOLD them to take a picture! Honestly. As you've no doubt thought at least once before in your life, while taking a picture, "can i just throw the camera?" Well, apparently the people from this company have, and so created a camera that you can throw that takes pictures, and have thus christened it, the "Throwable Panoramic Ball Camera." Suitable name. This camera can allegedly take 360-degree panoramic photos, simply by throwing it up into the air, which is probably where they got its name from. You throw the camera directly into the air, and when it reaches the apex, all 36 cameras automatically take a picture. Using a specific computer program, these pictures are digitally stitched together, and you are able to navigate your own way through the 360-degree picture. Watch the video, and you'll see that the results are very impressive. The drawbacks? The ball cannot spin when it is thrown up into the air, and don't even THiNK about dropping it, because despite the foam padding, it will be ruined if it drops. Maybe you should bring a catcher's mitt on your trip. And it's HUGE. Like, soccer ball huge. Where on Earth are you going to put this thing, anyways? Certainly not in a purse or a pocket. innovative, and a step forward from the old-fashioned cameras everyone still uses today, and yet very impractical.

Google Reader Getting Overhauled, Removing Your Friends | TechCrunch - 0 views

  •
Google Reader is a useful tool to help keep readers updated on current news. Google is updating this "long-ignored RSS app", giving it a new, modern design but removing the social features of this site. The problem? The social aspect of this site is not as in-your-face like Facebook, but instead enables your friends to keep you updated on things that you may not be subscribed to in Google Reader. The writer of this article even accuses Google of taking away the social features on Google Reader to drive people to Google +, which sadly, i can see them doing. Haha, nice try Google.

Nokia Shows Off Flexible Mobile Device of the Future [ViDEOS] - 0 views

  •
Nokia is developing a new device that is bendable. it is supposed to work similarly to other touch screen devices, but instead of pinching to zoom in and out, you would bend the screen. i think this is a good idea for children, because i assume that since the screen is bendable, it is shatterproof. this is ideal for clumsy children who often drop things

Computer servers 'as bad' for climate as SUVs - environment - 03 December 2007 - New Scientist - 0 views

In thIs artIcle It talks about how computers are a bIgger threat to the envIroment than SUVs! They say that because a lot of computers are not very energy effeIcIent and they waste a ton of electrIcIty. And In the report, An IneffIcIent Truth It says that wIth mopre than 1 bIllIon computers on the planet they are responsable for about 2% of human carbon dIoxIde emIssIons. In the artIcle It says that one of the bIggest Issues Is the fact that wIth SUVs you can clearly see that It damages the envIroment but wIth computers nobody really sees It as a problem so nobody trIes to fIx It. I can certaInly see that computers are a problem for the envIroment and the bIggest Issue Is that they can only grow In sIze.

More People Have Cell Phones Than Toilets - 0 views

  •
A recent study indicates that more people in the world have cell phones than toilets. According to a national report, 6 out of 7 billion people on the Earth have cell phones, compared to the 4.5 billion who have access to a functional toilet. Cell phones are in no way a bad thing, the major concern here is the shockingly low number of toilets. The study shows that those in countries without proper sanitation lose about 4500 children a day, just because they lack proper cleanliness. The shortage of latrines makes disease spread quite easily, and it is shown that the countries with the most poverty have a direct correlation to the countries which lack proper bathrooms. Bill Gates and the UN have been working to make a toilet that can easily be installed and maintaining in a developing country, and hopefully these findings will decrease the amount of death and poverty in these third world countries. Although the article compares two completely different things (cell phones and toilets), it does well at shining a light on things we take for granted in our lives. it's great that cell phones are everywhere, it allows anyone anywhere to have access to information from around the world. However, the priorities need to be straitened out; toilets are way more important than iPhones.

The Next World-Changing Supermaterial is Grown, Not Made - 0 views

  •
This article is about a new super-material that is very strong, super light and eats greenhouse gases. The material is made just from algae. Many scientists are saying that this nanocellulose  is a "wonder material" and can possibly become the raw material for sustainable production of biofuels and many other products. While producing the nanocellulose  the algae will absorb carbon dioxide and also is an abundant and inexpensive resource. Some people believe that this material will one day be used for super-light body armor and for replacement organs for transplants. in the beginning of production nanocellulose involved huge breeding tanks of bacteria which required food but recent advancements have helped groom new blue-green algae, which unlike normal bacteria, can make its own food from the sun, and devour greenhouse gases in the process. Nanocellulose research has been decades in the making and well worth it for the new discoveries scientists have found. i think that this is a very interesting new type of material and will one day be used to help many people.

This article is about a new substance called "Nanocellulose". This materiel is said to be as strong as Kevlar as well as light and can turn greenhouse gases into air, something scientist were trying to do with algae. There is so much possibility with this new material, at first it was very difficult to make it because you needed a certain type of bacteria and a lot of food, but now with advancements in technology it can use any bacteria and can get food from the sun. We can use this material for so much more right now we have only just discovered its potential. scientist say it may be able to be used as a bio fuel, super light body armor, thin displays, and even grow replacement organs later on.

Vapp: Snap Pics With Your Voice - 0 views

  •
you might ask what is Vapp??? well its an app that responds to sounds to take pictures automatically, without the press of any buttons. why should you get this app?, well first of all it requires no hands and it is voice activated, and you are able to adjust the volume level for the voice control, so it will respond to as little as a whisper and as much scream to take a picture, also this app is free and is probably going to be a successful app. this is another new product in the apple store, in my opinion everyone should get this appp it is useful to those who are not able to take pictures, or suffer from Parkinson. i would also recommend this app to people who enjoy taking pictures of what they do and what they eat.

Twitter Boosts Class Participation and Writing Skills Among Students : Counsel & Heal - 1 views

  •
As a social generation, we use various online 'social networks' to connect with others and share information (e.g. photos, text, videos.) But has anyone ever considered integrating one of these networks into a scholastic environment? This is exactly what Assistant professor of education at Michigan State University, Christina Greenhow has found in a recent study. While most say that social networks like Twitter are poisoning the minds of our youth, destroying their grammar and face-to-face skills, Greenhow finds that using Twitter in her class has allowed for more engaged students proven to attain higher grades. By integrating Twitter into some of the class' exercises, Greenhow was able to contextualize the material into something the students could relate to, "The students get more engaged because they feel it is connected to something real, that it's not just learning for the sake of learning." Twitter; something bored students would initially hide from teachers in class is now seeing some valid and practical applications in the classroom. This article relates to the tag "eLifestyle" because teachers are constantly trying to integrate web-based teaching into their classrooms in this constantly evolving technological age. This relates to iCS20 because we are one of the classes in the school on the forefront of technology, integrating web services such as Codeacademy, Diigo and even Twitter to enhance our learning experience. This article is not meant to give students excuses to wander off to Twitter during class, but to show teachers the validity in using a web-based social network to improve their teaching methods in the classroom.

A Mil-Spec, Everything-Proof iPhone Case With a Freakishly Slim Figure - 0 views

  •
This article is about an iphone 4/4S case the claims to be "mil-spec rated"- meaning it is water-, dust-, snow-, and shock-proof. So basically it is an "everything-proof" case (with the exemption of nuclear of course). it also claims that it is noticeably thinner than other cases that carry out similar functions. With a whooping price of $70, i think this is a good buy when you consider how fragile  the iphone can be and how much it takes to repair it when damaged.
  •
This article is about a new iPhone 4/4s case that is said to be water, dust, snow, and shock proof. This new case can survive six foot drops and can be submerged under 6 feet of water! The "life proof case adds only 1/16" of thickness to the iPhone. The case is available now and it cost about $70. iPhone users are you willing to pay $70 for a "life proof case"?

Sharing-Friendly Shazam 5.0 Recognizes Music in a Second [ViDEO] - 0 views

  •
Shazam has come out with it's newest version, 5.0 for iPod and iPhone users. The changes to this new app is faster speed, better layout, and ability to connect to other social networks. Some people claim that it is THE fastest music app. Shazam claims that their app can identify a song in 1 second, and when tested it only took 3 seconds. This is a huge improvement to the older model which took 10 seconds. i remember having Shazam on my blackberry and having to sometimes wait for almost 30 seconds to get a song identified. This shows that Shazam has come a long way. People are also now allowed to comment on the music they found and share it with their friends on facebook and twitter. in addition, Shazam has added language support for over 30 different languages. making Shazam more universal. i'm sure that this new model will make Shazam a lot of money.
