This website is for the American Heritage Vegetable project, a digital humanities program dedicated to documenting the cultivation practices and cookery of vegetables in the American kitchen. It also shares what kind of vegetables are in the market during different time periods. The information is collected from sources such as agricultural journals, gardening encyclopedias, and even horticultural manuals. With the American Heritage Vegetables project people can learn how we eat, what we eat, and the way American cuisine has changed throughout history.

In this article, Susan Garfinkel compares the changes and shifts in American Studies to those in Digital Humanities. As a grad student at the University of Pennsylvania, Garfinkel was able to gain a first hand account of how an ever changing diverse program can evaporate. The changes then witnessed in American Studies can now be seen in Digital Humanities. Both concentrations are growing and hopefully by incorporating each with the other they will continue.

The 126th annual American Historical Association meeting held in Chicago was one of the largest meetings ever. This year, the NEH Office of Digital Humanities sent a representative to the meeting to discuss the relevance of Digital Humanities in the field of history.

The American Historical Association was founded in 1884, and promotes historical studies across "every historical period and geographical period." The AHA produces several publications including the American Historical Review, a history journal, and AHA Today, the AHA's blog. The website also serves to provide teaching materials.

This short article for the 2012 American Studies Association Annual Meeting represents a call for digital humanists to collaborate and propose ways in which American Studies and Digital Humanities can be transformed to be better address concerns such a marginalization. Provided proof that this is possible, the article highlights such "digital collectives and social movements" such as Crunk Feminist Collective, "shit [people] say" and artists offering a "productive [exploration] of digital productions and methods." The article also highlights in particular the #transformDH movement, and provides links to some of the articles and websites utilized by the group.

This article discusses how African-American studies are merging with Digital Humanities at Duke University. The journalist explains the task is not entirely easy, for many of the black studies scholars are not willing to converge with digital humanities, because of their skepticism towards technology. Many of these scholars are older and accustomed to the 1960s Black studies model. A professor of Duke University explains the main challenge is to produce quality material that at the same time will contain critical apparatus.

This article discusses digital humanities through the works of Todd Carter and his Tagasauris data-curation platform. This program allows people to tag their pictures and other forms of media by the use of crowdsourcing and digital intelligence. He divides Tagasauris into three categories: Findability, Linkability, and Discoverability. With his creation, people such as Valerie Matteau have been able to digitize an art collection, which reveals eighty years of american history such as Correta Scott King's funeral.

Although not always on topic, the #transformDH tumblr contains a large archive of numerous works within the field of digital humanities related to race and gender. Projects highlighted by the Tumblr include "Swag Diplomacy," a mapping project tracking "200 African American autobiographers who wrote international travel memoirs," and "BlackGirlsCode," a project working "to meet the needs of young women of color who are underrepresented in the... field of technology." The archive also occasionally reblogs and communicates with other tumblrs.

This article is providing an update of the advances DPLA has made in creating a digital national public library. DPLA announced the launch of it Digital Hubs Pilot Project in 7 states at DPLA Midwest (a large conference in Chicago. The project was created to help local libraries and communities digitize their collection with technological resources and supportive staff. A prototype will be launched in April of 2013 with topics including civil rights, Native Americans, and immigration. It also announced Appfest (held Nov. 8 & 9) to present ideas, including working models, of possible platforms for the metadata.

The Sloan Foundation focuses its grants in science, technology, and economic institutions that they believe will improve American quality of life. Many of the open-access journals and projects that the Sloan foundation provides grants for fall under the initiatives for Information Technology and the Dissemination of Knowledge. The initiative look for projects that expand public access to research journals, archives, and books online.

This website called Humanist is an "international electronic seminar on humanities computing and the digital humanities." The goal of this website is to create a forum where people can log on and discuss any issues with the digital humanities and share thoughts and ideas. Humanist is a publication of the Alliance of Digital Humanities Organizations (ADHO) and the Office for Humanities Communication (OHC) and an affiliated publication of the American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS).

The gap between digital humanities and black studies is a fairly wide one and that's where Howard Rambsy II comes in--his goal is to shorten the wall between the two scholastic fields. This blog entry interviews Rambsy, who is the author of books such as the "Black Arts Enterprise and the Production of African American Poetry." He discusses how black writers help the digital humanities movement by spreading enthusiasm. The author states that the best way to thin the gap is to simply create more collaboration between these two fields.
