Leigh Blackall: How and why I'll do a PhD - 2 views

  •
I will (and have already) publicly declared my commitment to understanding and attempting to apply the apparent rigor, depth and discipline required for recognition as a Doctor of Philosophy, but will do so informally. That is, without enrolling or submitting to an institution, faculty, discipline area or assigned supervisors. Instead, I will direct myself, using online social networks, professional contacts...

In search of the elusive Eminent Person Interview | Adventures in a Gifted Classroom - 0 views

  •
How much does this owe to the culture of learning developing in a classroom that has been evolving as a continuous 9 / 10 split since 2005? How much does it owe to the evolution of my own pedagogy in relation to technology and student learning networks? And how much of this is the observation of the tidal shift in how the emerging generation, who views technology as an underlying fact of life, rather than ornamental, or merely entertainment, can use technology to empower individualized learning?

elearnspace › My Personal Learning Network is the most awesomest thing ever!! - 21 views

  • Diigo sticky notes
  • affective issues and the creation of a place where people feel comfortable and trusted will foster active engagement, that the fostering of strong rather than weak ties will help in this.
  • figure out the conditions in which people might actually want to participate actively by creating, and then producing the environment and the conditions in which participants feel comfortable doing so.
  •
Where things get a bit more confusing with PLNs is when we fail to advance beyond those warm fuzzy feelings about being connected to others with more substantive knowledge and action.

Twitter gets you fired in 140 characters or less - Technotica- msnbc.com - 0 views

  • Clay Shirky speaks of a day in the not-too-distant future when human resources departments will have the wisdom to look beyond social networking faux pas — at least in some small part because by then, everyone will have made at least one.
  • Rep. Pete Hoekstra, R-Mich., tweeted this as-it-happens update regarding his group’s location and destination:"Moved into green zone by helicopter Iraqi flag now over palace. Headed to new US embassy Appears calmer less chaotic than previous here."
  • This social networking comedy of errors spread like dancing hamsters across Twitter. In the retelling, "theconnor" earned the nick, "Cisco Fatty." Before the work day ended, Web sleuths revealed "theconnor's" true identity. "Theconnor" was lampooned in a popular YouTube meme. And thanks to Google Cache, the deleted content of "theconnor’s" homepage resurfaced on CiscoFatty.com, a Web site erected to commemorate this cautionary tale.

Evaluate VMware Infrastructure 3 (VI3) Free for 60 Days - VMware - 0 views

Fascinating way to create virtual servers.
  •
This software lets you take one host PC server and this lets you virtualize servers. In Walton County - have 100 servers and 60 are virtual. All independent and have their own IP address and appear completely independent -- they have 6 blade servers. This does cost money. This would let me move the Accelerated Reader and Accounting system to separate "virtual servers" and if one needed to reboot, I could reboot a "virtual server" and not the physical server. This is from an expert IT - Jack Higgins, Network Analyst - Walton County schools in Atlanta, GA -- met by accident in the Atlanta airport. A lot of these bookmarks are from him!
