PBS & CR 2.0: Remixing Shakespeare for 21st Century Students - Classroom 2.0 - 0 views

  •
Cool Webinar tomorrow - Live Webinar with the Folger Shakespeare Library on Wednesday, March 18 from 8:00 - 9:30 p.m. Eastern Time (5:00pm start Pacific Time, 12 midnight GMT). Our speakers will present and demonstrate methods for teaching Shakespeare using digital media. The educational activities to be presented were developed by trained workshop leaders and teachers during the Folger's Teaching Shakespeare Institutes and sessions. Participants will learn practical and exciting ways they can incorporate Shakespeare's King Lear and other literary works into history, social studies, English, and language arts instruction. I try to understand why we cannot use these as credits - they are free and they are announced a few days a head of time -- but still, they are valuable learning experiences.

Some cool science teachers at necc who have "flipped the classroom" -- they record their lectures and make them available on itunes to download. Then, they do "homework" in class w/ the teachers. Listening to the podcast of class is their assignment -- the homework is what they do in class. This flipped method had some people talking today in our workshop. So so cool! This makes so much sense -- take the one to many work delivery and make it the assignment -- take the work where you need many to many to help one another and have that in the classroom. Can you see class evolving? wow! This makes so much sense.
  •
Use of podcasting to "flip" the classroom experienc.e Lectures are assignments to listen to on the podcast -- homework is the classwork now so teachers can help the students one on one. How much sense does that make! Wow!

I adore this post about being the obstacle or the answer from a participant in the workshop on Monday. These insights are excellent and this school MICDS has some of the most visionary, progressive teachers and administrators! It is refreshing to be here. Elizabeth Helfant, their IT director, is unbelievably sharp! Totally amazing woman with the energy of the Energizer bunny. Wow!

US teacher is suspended for letting pupils read bestseller | News | guardian.co.uk Books - 0 views

Class teacher is suspended for letting her students read freedom writers. I would love to have some opinions from other teachers.
  •
This teacher was banned from using the freedom writers diary in her classroom and now has been suspended. I don't know all of the facts, however, I have to wonder why the school sent her to a Freedom Writers workshop and then wouldn't let her use the book. I do respect the desire to limit the profanity -- I wish that perhaps there was a explitive-free version of the book to handle this issue, however, it looks like this entire issue was mishandled. It grieves me as more issues like this seem to be happening in schools. I haven't read this book to have my own opinion, but would love to hear from some of you who have.

The replacement for Jott (since they began charging) this is a good entry-level cell phone tool to share in workshops so people can decide if they "get it" before they "get it." Will be using with my students this week.
