Listing of different types of eportfolio systems

One of my favorite web 2.0 tools shown last year at necc wasn't on a computer, it was a keychain used by Kevin Honeycutt. These are amazing and this is a photograph of that. These were given to the teacher at his school in sort of a swap meet - people wrote about what it was and links on one side and the name on the other side along with the name of a person who could be contacted to help with that. Each teacher had to bring two to share with the others.

This guide is from Dr. Louisa C. Moats and the International Dyslexia Association. It bridges research into practice to create a "research-based tool for practitioners." These are the standards used by the IDI to guide teachers of reading, spelling, and writing.

ResearchBlogging.orgI think there is a lot of potential for use of wikis in classrooms, particularly in the area of collaborative writing. There are a number of articles out there extolling the possible virtues of the tool. However, I also think it is important to look at potential pitfalls so they can (hopefully) be addressed during implementation. Here are five areas of caution that peer-reviewed articles have suggested:

Geographical Media is a news monitoring tool designed to make it easy to follow news and find statistics about the people, places and other things you are most interested in. We read thousands of news articles a day from news sources from all around the world and identify who, what and where they are about.

"Edublogs is a blogging tool which is allows students and teachers to create online journals/diaries to share their thoughts and ideas with others. They can include text, audio, images and videos. Blogging allows students to engage in 21st century learning within their classroom and beyond. There are many blogging sites available to use. This page focuses on Edublogs and how it can be used by teachers and students to enhance learning."

Here are Michael Thornton's student livebinders. These are textbooks written by the students. Except for the typo on Ancient Greece review, this is a marvelous example of having students build meaningful textbooks.Interestingly, Michael's livebinder puts together livebinders themselves. I'm going to be learning more about this tool and have my students use these this year.

Another cool tool. This is from a UK site so they call these "plenaries" but they are 140 lesson plan ideas. You'll have to sign up for a free TES account but this is  a cool powerpoint.

What is 21st century literacy and how do we help students become better communicators? Rebecca Alber says: "In today's world, being literate requires much, much more than the traditional literacy of yesterday. This cool edtech tool lets students load the presentation slides you're giving on their own devices. But even more, you can ask for student responses on individual slides and with prompts. I'm going to be using this for my presentations in the fall. Hat time James Sturtevant. Awesome!

If you're using flipped classroom, this fantastic tool will help you know what students are watching, help you ask questions within the video and interact with your students. I'm so excited to try this out in the fall. Awesome.

This is a course for Spring Branch ISD which uses a blog as the framework. I also love how 9 hours of professional development is being given for the educators in this course. We need more embedded PD that gives teachers an opportunity to embed their learning in their daily activity. Embedded PD is the key to transformational learning. While there is a time and place for getting away, we have traditionally only used that "away" method when we also need to use the "learn right here" method of delivery as well.
