Scoop.it Passes Diigo as EdReach's #3 Referrer | EdReach - 10 views

  • But the past couple of weeks there’s been a rolling stone gathering lots of moss- and that stone is Scoop.it.
  • Well, I haven’t seen much happen with Scoop.it and educators for the past few months, but then something big happened: Scoop.it launched Scoop.it for Education.
  • I know many educators are fond of Paper.li, another link/newspaper tool, but I’ve never found  that paper-like experience to be of much value, because it’s so… bland.

  • Paper.li creates these “news” papers based on the people you follow on Twitter, not on your Tweets. Scoop.it creates their paper based on your Scoop.it bookmarks, so it is somewhat more of an authentic experience.

Review: How to teach Secondary Science by @CatrinGreen - 2 views

  •
We all remember science lessons from our school days. Whether the lessons were with the more 'characteristic' teachers in the school, or whether you all released the gas taps when the teacher foolishly left the room, we all seemed to miss the link that science is life! And what an opportunity science teachers have in releasing the magic of life to their pupils, answering BIG questions like "Why am I like my parents?", or "What will my life be like in 2050?", or "Why is Pripyat a deserted town?"

Fascinating way to create virtual servers.
  •
This software lets you take one host PC server and this lets you virtualize servers. In Walton County - have 100 servers and 60 are virtual. All independent and have their own IP address and appear completely independent -- they have 6 blade servers. This does cost money. This would let me move the Accelerated Reader and Accounting system to separate "virtual servers" and if one needed to reboot, I could reboot a "virtual server" and not the physical server. This is from an expert IT - Jack Higgins, Network Analyst - Walton County schools in Atlanta, GA -- met by accident in the Atlanta airport. A lot of these bookmarks are from him!

Student created wiki. Thomas Cooper is the teacher behind this project. He teachers at the Walker School in Marietta, GA. Many people believe that child labor and abuse is something of the past, but there could not be more of a false statement. Around the world children are being marginalized, and abused, and forced into labor. Children in Africa are being forced to join the military and kill children and adults alike. Other children are living on the streets because their parents' lives were taken by the AIDS virus. And due to India's class system, young children will live in poverty with no possible way of hope in the future. Children are even forced into prostitution and labor. Childhood deformities and disabilities cause affected children to live in isolation and cause pain and suffering for both them and their families. Be sure to check out the teacher resources in the table of contents.

Where is Your Classroom? - 18 views

  •
"I have access to an incredible wealth of credible resources, and I am given as much time as I need to synthesize information and determine how to best leverage it. I have opportunities to collaborate and learn with, and from, experts all over the world. I have the chance to participate in challenge based learning projects where I work to find solutions to a variety of real world problems, and I do it with individuals in locations that I have never been to." "You may be wondering where this amazing classroom is, and my response is unique given the time of day: at home, the gym, my car, the gas station, a school, a picnic table, a friend's house, my back deck, a restaurant… and that is just a few of today's locations. Safeguard the Lands and Waters of the Black Mesa Petition : [ powered by iPetitions.com ] - 0 views

  • PETITION TO THE CALIFORNIA PUBLIC UTILITIES COMISSION (CPUC)
  • . Recognize that the Hopi and Navajo tribes from 1970 to 2005 were consistently under-compensated for thousands of tons of coal and over 45 billion gallons of precious aquifer water to power the Mohave Generating Station (Mohave) to provide Southern California with lower cost electricity.
  • Such compensation should be drawn from the proposed sale of Edison's share of Sulfur Dioxide allowances credited to owners of Mohave for cutting 40,000 tons of toxic gas produced by Mohave prior to its closure in 2005.
