Although Prezi is advertised as a presentation device, it works really well to graphically present information, so I prefer it as a graphic organizer. Prezi provides a medium to allow words to flow, enabling the user to zoom in to information "hidden" as a subcategory within the main points. This is a very exciting new program, which I have gladly paid a subscription for! There remain some gltiches in publishing, such as to wordpress, or from the desktop application.
Prezi allows a user to create a presentation that encompasses many of the same features of programs like PowerPoint. However, the presentation style of the elements follows more of a mind map design rather than a linear slideshow. The presentation tool is housed online, can be access for free, and makes it easy to integrate various forms of multimedia.

This is a great presentation tool, allowing user to create and share presentation online and offline. Prezi is one of the pest presentation tools I have found, as it allows the import of various multimedia materials, including PowerPoint slides, images, videos, pdf files. Also, it facilitates the creation of storylines using frames. The site also includes access to millions of prezis created by other users on various topics.

Prezi's can be downloaded or saved on in the users account until the presentation. The user can also allow others to view their presentation or keep them private. Prezi is a free site in which interactive presentations are made possible. Prezi is much more dynamic than a PowerPoint presentation and as long as you have internet access you do not have to worry about the computer you are using having the same version of PowerPoint.

When explaining production elements it helps to be able to see the whole picture from script to distribution. Prezi offers the ability to focus on each part and zoom out to view the full picture.

The topic of my multimedia workshop is on How to Utilize Multimedia to Create Effective Instructions. I plan to use PowerPoint as my multimedia artifact. In Jones (2005) article she establishes the fact that the technology of choice for most projects was PowerPoint. The main reasons for selecting PowerPoint for my multimedia project coincided with what was discussed in this article. PowerPoint is accessible and familiar to most educators and students. It is simple to use, can be created on desktop, visually stimulating, sounds or auditory stimulation can be added and can be use for cognitive abilities. In addition, PowerPoint has presentation versatility because it can be used as an original file, PDF format, and html format. It can also run with videos and have narration added. Finally, the software allows for interactivity. The focus of the multimedia workshop is to create a learner-centered approach to learning instead of a technology approach to learning; the software is used to facilitate this process (Jones 2005, p. 1).
Mayer's (2008) active processing is when meaningful learning occurs and learners are engaged in the active cognitive processing during learning and instructors must figure out ways to prime the learners to pay attention to relevant material, and mentally organize the information and integrate the information based on their prior knowledge. The ability to actively process information can be associated students dynamic, collaborative and synergistic construction of significant knowledge within a multi-learning environment.

This site provides a PowerPoint presentation on how create the most appropriate question format for clickers. The website explains when in the lesson each type of question is most appropriate. The website provides various links that give the learner more information on each topic that pertains to incorporating student response devises in the classroom. The clickers allow for various types of question format. The instructor can choose to use true/false, multiple choice, numerical, and other various types of assessment check point tools to assess the understanding of the content. Furthermore, the website includes suggestions on using the clickers to prompt student conversation and engagement. The learner can develop a greater understanding from the instructions and information provided on this website.
The PowerPoint presentation fits into Mayer's essential learning. Essential learning relates to a lack of understanding due to no previous knowledge on the given content. Slideboom is a website to upload Powerpoint presentations even 2010 and keeps the full presentation intact.Slideboom will also allow the user to embed their presentation into websites like wikis, blogs, Facebook, etc.Slideboom has an add-on(iSpring free) where you can upload your presentation directly from Powerpoint. Slideshare - Slideshare is a website that allows users to upload various types of presentations: documents, presentations, and professional videos. I like this site because it attempts to keep non-professional data off , unlike sites such as You Tube that is for general use. Setting up an account is easy and the basic membership is free, which is always nice.
SlideShare is a tool that allows users to upload presentations or videos they have created to be shared with others. This site also allows users to search for presentations and videos on topics of interest. Having used this tool before, I have found it easy to use and can see how it might be used to share any presentations or videos created for the workshop with staff who were unable to attend or with a much broader audience.

I prefer sites that are a "one-stop" resource for the tools that I am looking to use. Since I use PowerPoint a lot in my area of work, this site also provides a link to a comprehensive list of pre-configured PowerPoint templates to create charts and diagrams.
This is a great online alternative to Power Point. It allows you to create power point style presentations that can be shared via a url or downloaded. It is a great alternative first, because its free and still offers most of the common options used in Power Point. Being able to share it via url, and allow the users to download it as an html.
This site allows the user to create a slide show presetnation from anywhere without having to use PowerPoint. The only thing needed is a web browser and this is compatible with IE 7, Firfox and Camino. What I liked best about this site is its ease of use and that all members can work on the same presentation at the same time. Also, there is no limit to the number or length of the presentation. You even have 250MB to store photos.
What it does: It is a simplified version of Power Point allowing a user to create slides.
Why this one: It is free and easy to use. It is also web-based so that teachers do not need to copy it into folders, files, or CDs. The recurring theme that I have tried to maintain is the need for simplicity and efficient use of time. Creating multimedia presentations are but a small fraction of the enormous number of jobs a teacher must complete. This application, while more limited than Power Point, does allow teachers to complete a project in less time.

PreZentIt is a free presentation, web-based program for creating, editing and presenting images and text. This seems almost the same as creating a powerpoint presentation, except it allows multiple user editing simultaneously, and is on the cloud, so isn't 'stuck" on a computer, when you need it in another location.
Very easy to use site for creating online, collaborative presentations (a la PowerPoint). The site offers very little in terms of how-to information, and it is primarily at the generative level of cognitive processing, focusing on creating and applying the tool. However, it is a very simple interface, much like PowerPoint stripped down to the basics. Its advantages are ease-of-use, share-ability, privacy options, and the ability to download presentations.

This is by far one of the best powerpoint oriented portals on the web. The nice thing is that you can save a useful ppt on your computer without licensing issues. The drawback is that there are so many options and links that just dropping in for a fast pick-up of a presentation is difficult. 280 Slides is a site that allows users to create presentations similar to a PowerPoint. In fact, if a PowerPoint show has already been created, it can be uploaded to the site. This tool could be used by workshop participants as they collaborate to create a brief presentation about a concept discussed in the workshop. The fact that this tool is so similar to PowerPoint was a big plus, in addition to the fact that, unlike PowerPoint, when the 280 Slide presentation is completed, it can be easily shared to the Web.

Poll Everywhere is an audience response system using standard web technology. It works through text, web, or Twitter, its simplicity and flexibility are earning rave reviews. I love it because responses show up immediately on the screen, allowing the instructor to create a chart, or just show responses. This is a free web-based program for up to 30 responders.
This website allows a user to develop online polls that learners in a workshop/presentation can participate in. With regard to pre-training activities, quick polls can help both learners and the instructor quickly gauge what the learners know before digging into the planned activities. In addition, polls can be designed to engage learners and prepare them for some of the activities they will participate in.
