    Free "learn to program" - also works with scratch projects. Includes class management tool for student assignments. My students like it better than Scratch.

    We've been "Scratching" for a while, and I'm curious if they compared Scratch 1.4 or 2.0, the Web-based version now out, which my students like better than the original. There are classroom management elements coming for Scratch in the near future, but I did find that there were a few more interesting controls in Tynker, particularly the "physics" blocks.... If it gets kids coding, its all good :)

  • Since disdaining grades in favor of narrative feedback, I spend much more time doing what my colleagues call grading. I evaluate and re-evaluate student work daily. Project feedback is ongoing. I have 120 students so I’m writing seemingly all of the time. I’m often asked by teachers and friends, “Isn’t it a lot of work?”  Definitely. Would I ever return to traditional grading? Never.

      So narrative grading takes more time, but it is worth it. I am still wondering what he puts on the report card...

This post posits that if we are to introduce a non Americanised version of PBL then we should expect systematic change over a long period of time so that it becomes ingrained in the learning culture of the school. I particularly like this position because it takes into account the longevity of the teachers capacity not only to with stand the change but also to be part of the new paradigm.
