However, this investigation does present a promising music-assisted treatment approach.

Factors contributing to the lack of findings from the cognitive measures included small sample size and inconsequential performance conditions. The results of this pilot study found a non-statistically significant trend in reduced cognitive symptoms of anxiety.

. Though relaxation training home-practice was monitored informally (i.e., via review of relaxation record sheets), a more formal record of compliance data would have helped to determine the impact of treatment adherence on treatment outcome.
Bib 2.0: Before Blogs and Wikis: Three Tools to Enhance Collaboration - 6 views

Diigo: Once they start their web-related search, Diigo, an add-on extension for Firefox and Internet Explorer, allows students to highlight text and post sticky-notes directly onto webpages, then share their comments within the group. Others can add their own comments to the note. Selected text is archived to a "my bookmarks" page, along with the comments and a copy of the website. Students can collaborate within the bookmarks site or on the individual websites. Diigo supports RSS feeds, allowing teachers to follow student progress. The more I use this tool, the more I'm convinced it ought to be integral to every research project. It allows students to actively connect with the information they're reading--to question, annotate and infer. All in collaboration with their group. How amazing is that???
Teacher to Teacher: Using Quizlet to Play Bingo - 48 views

Quizlet has become a great teaching tool that I have used for the past few years. I wrote this post a little while ago about easily adding images to Quizlet sets. For younger students, I have found a fun and easy way to use Quizlet flashcards plus a bingo tool for fun and effective review for all topics and subjects. This will even work for middle and high school students.

Book: Engaging Learners (100 ideas) by @TeamTait - 28 views

"Engaging a bunch of teenagers after lunch on a Friday afternoon is no mean feat. Only the most seasoned and patient of teachers can pull it off, with a great deal of patience, stamina and effort. Well, not necessarily. There are strategies and ideas that can keep the most demotivated students learning when they don't necessarily realise, and fortunately, Jon Tait has compiled a collection of 100 ideas that can keep secondary pupils engaged in their learning, in any subject, in any school."

Can Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein be read as an early research ethics text?
-
Frankenstein is an early and balanced text on the ethics of research upon human subjects and that it provides insights that are as valid today as when the novel was written.
-
Mary Shelley conceived the idea for and started writing Frankenstein in 1816 and it was first published in 1818.1 In its historical context, the earlier 17th and 18th centuries had seen the early signs of the rise of science and experimentation. Francis Bacon (1561–1626) had laid the theoretical foundations in his “Great Insauration”2 and scientists such as Boyle, Newton, and Hooke developed the experimental methods. Sir Robert Talbor, a 17th century apothecary and one of the key figures in developing the use of quinine to treat fevers, underlined this: “the most plausible reasons unless backed by some demonstrable experiments seem but suppositions or conjectures”.3

"This book explores three key pillars that underpin effective, efficient teaching: the lesson, the curriculum and the school's support structure. Mark argues that quality education is rooted in simplicity. In this book, he convincingly strips away the layers of contradictory pedagogical advice that teachers have received over the years and lends weight to the three key pillars that underpin effective, efficient teaching: the lesson, the curriculum and the school's support structure."

All content can be learned directly through the online courseware, but learning by students benefits from guidance by a teacher and conversations with peers

we aim to bring a valuable curricular resource to more students without removing the important role of face-to-face engagement.
-
It is important to mention here that there is evidence that many people who takes MOOCs arrange meetings with others in the course that live near enough, in order to discuss the matter, help each other, and generally improve their learning experience. Face to face interaction does not have to be preestablished by the MOOC designer/provider, nor it have to take place in classrooms.

we decided to create curricula for teachers to bring to their classrooms using MOOC technology
