I think this is a great topic. Since, we are all in college and know first hand the expenses of college. This article argues to push for free college. He talks about a college in Georgia where they have scholarships for free college. I think this is rather interesting!

This is an interesting thought however, I feel that too easily the system would get bogged down. Also, the money to pay for this free college would have to come from tax-payers. In reality I don't see how it would work. I know in Germany college is free IF a student has a certain score on a standardized test, so that the government sees the student as a worthwhile investment. It sounds harsh, but it works. I think in America too many things would cause that rule to be derailed. Also, Germany has as much smaller and homogeneous population, so that works better.

I am a person who is all for free education..in theory. Like Amanda, I do not believe it would be beneficial to provide the United States with free education because we as the tax papers would suffer. However, I do wish the government would make it so that we are not in such crippling debt once our education is over.
  •
As much as I would love to see free education, it would not be free because it would come down to the average tax payer to pay for it. I do however wish to see lower interest rates.
  •
I wish education could be 100% free. Everyone is always pushing us younger people to pursue a college degree without knowing that college isn't just a sign up and go kind of thing. You have to pay thousands of dollars either out of pocket or by federal funding.

It's Too Expensive to Go to College Anymore - 0 views

  •
America is the land where all your hopes and dreams can come true. Anyone with a drive to learn more should have an equal and fair opportunity to attend college. We could only fantasize about free college education. Student debt is expected to rise from $35,000 to $45,000 in the next generation and will only continue to go up. A college degree is worth so much more than a college degree. A good education is valuable. Although the price may be high, you will be rewarded by help for the future. Joseph, M. (2013) It's too expensive to go to college anymore. Available at: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/marc-joseph/its-too-expensive-to-go-t_b_3935231.html (Accessed: 12 September 2016). Understanding the Skyrocketing Costs of a College Education An Overview of the Basic Re... - 0 views

Colleges are taking advantage of the fact that more and more students are wanting to attend and get a degree. So many people are willing to pay full price, that soaring prices are the least of their worries. The broadened list of programs, amenities, and higher staff salaries are allowed by this demand and ,therefore, greatly accepted by schools. Clark, K. (2016) An overview of the basic reasons behind the rising cost of college tuition. Available at: https://www.thebalance.com/rising-cost-college-education-795383 (Accessed: 12 September 2016). The Miseducation of the Masses; M. Shannon Hernandez - 0 views

Our educational focus is misguided and centered around test based performance instead of creating a truly well-rounded education for youth. ¨Common core¨ teaching is built around preparing the student for higher education; however the majority of these students need career-based skills, not college level skills. The focus is too much on college and too little on career.
