Return the Drinking Age to 18, and Enforce It - 0 views

  •
Raising the drinking age to 21 hasn't reduced drinking it gave under age people the urge to drink a lot more then they can consume. When people are viewed as an adult in America by the age of 18 years old, and they can limited to what they can consume, it makes people want to act out.

Bottoms Up! - 1 views

This article points out that there we should just get rid of the drinking age completely. However, it also makes some good points of why we should lower the drinking age if we dont get rid of it.

I definitely don't agree with this article. Its one thing to smoke cannabis. But drinking takes your body to a completely un-controllable state. And the younger you are the more naïve you become with making smart choices.

Drinking and driving is very common in today's society. I like this article because not only does it provide facts about faculties, but also provided a visual emotional touch while reading. People are effected everyday due to someone driving under the influence or while intoxicated. It's good we have things like Uber, taxi's, and buses that help lead away from driving drunk, which in return will lead to safer roads.
  •
It's still upsetting to me how much of a problem this is in society. It's not anything new yet it still hasn't been stopped and that needs to change.
  •
Drinking and driving is not only wrong, but its completely selfish. You are not only putting your life in danger, but you are also putting others in danger. There are many different routes you can take rather than just getting into your car intoxicated.
  •
Ugh, I hate that no matter how many times you can say to someone "please call me and ill pick you up" and they still choose to drive themselves home because they do not want to "bother" you. This is such a big issue in our society that everyone needs to learn to stop doing. I feel that Uber is helping in some way lately though!

The Issue is Freedom, Not Soft Drinks - 0 views

  •
This article is about the Mayor of New York banning soda. New York City Mayor Bloomberg struck what he claims is another blow for the cause of public health yesterday by announcing a ban on the sale of all sugared drinks in containers that measure larger than 16 ounce servings. Because soft drinks are widely believed to be part of the obesity epidemic, he believes it is his duty to try and stop the citizens of Gotham from harming themselves.

Many believe using artificial sweeteners to sweeten drinks and food can be a great way to help reduce calories and maintain a healthy lifestyle. While others believe it is far worse for you then just having sugar or high fructose corn syrup.

Denmark after one year removed the fat tax and would be phasing out the soft drink tax in one year. The tax was damaging to local economy and didn't deliver any concrete benefits. Again one single food or bev can be held responsible. between 1999-2011 soda decreased by 32% and fat rates still rose.

A heavily debated topic is in regard to the use of sugar substitutes such as aspartame and sucralose. Common brands are Splenda, NutraSweet, and etc. Research has shown that these "healthy, weight loss" sugar-free substitutes are unsafe and are causing more harm then good. This article specifically talks about how children's drinks are being targeted, and currently contain more of these sweeteners, such as aspartame, and increased by 200% during the study period.
