Expanding Citizenship: Immigrants and the Vote - 1 views

  •
A touchy subject but one that has been increasingly more important in the United States, should illegal immigrants be able to vote? The research shows that that their votes play a major role in poles. I think that it's important for people to vote and have a say, but should everyone who comes into the U.S. be allowed to have such a say if not a citizen? Would Americans have that same right in their home country?

I am an immigrant myself, i migrated here legally, i pay my taxes, receive no tax breaks even while i make little money, i do not have the ability to vote, and i have done the process through and through, without breaking the law. So i ask, why if i can't vote, should someone who has dodged taxes, came here illegally, and broken the laws of this generous country, have the ability to vote where i cannot?

Protecting The Freedom To Vote Against Wrongful Challenges And Intimidation | Demos - 0 views

  •
Protecting the freedom to vote for all eligible Americans is of fundamental importance in a democracy founded upon the consent of the governed. Clearly boundaries for poll watchers are often crossed. These challenges lead to stricter rules that need to be followed by honest, law abiding citizens that just make it harder to vote.

  •
"Nothing in the Constitution guarantees our right to vote", states Politifact prize winning website. Even though the right to vote is most mentioned in the Constitution, legislatures around the country have been trying to deny that right to millions of Americans. Voter ID's are now being required, which basically is a law erected by the goverment to attempt to keep, the poor, elderly, and minority members of society from excercising their right to vote.

Supreme Court: Arizona Law Requiring Proof of Citizenship to Register to Vote Is Uncons... - 1 views

  •
The article shows that the Supreme Court overruled the law that people need to proof that they are citizen when they want to vote. There are so many people lost there proof of citizenship by many reasons, and the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 states that citizen just need only one form to prove that they are citizen and they can easily vote
  •
For states that border Mexico--like Arizona, of course--I believe that proof of citizenship is required simply to prevent illegal aliens from voting. The number of Mexican citizens who were allowed to vote outweighs the amount of actual citizens who lost their ability to prove nationality.
  •
Anywhere people go they should have to show proof of citizenship. If there is illegal immigrants in Arizona Im sure they are in other states as well. I know if I was illegal I would get very far away from the border as possible. I think our citizenship laws should get stricter.
