Minimum Wage Justice - 2 views

  •
This article talks about the ways minimum wage is nearly the same or less even when raised. It is shown that the cost of living goes up each year. This means that when we get a dollar raise prices inflate making that dollar not any more valuable. one phrase they said that I liked is that the ink doesn't get a chance to dry before it loses value.

I feel as if that phrase you used is so true! I like how the article compared the results from raising the minimum wage over a few years. The cost of living always increases!
  •
This was exactly my thought when minimum wage was raised. What was the point if the cost of living just keeps rising and faster then the minimum wage? Working for $10 an hour after taxes and insurance take home pay won't help if the cost of milk is almost $3 maybe $2 when on sale.
  •
This is an interesting article. While the cost of living goes up all the time, every time minimum wage goes up employers are forced to pay their employees more so they have to charge more for their services which in turn raises the cost of living.

Raise the Minimum Wage: A Cry for Justice for America's Low Wage Workers | Rutgers Scho... - 1 views

  •
The cost of living increases while wages do not reflect the same. A person working for minimum wage isn't likely to afford a place to live with essential needs to also survive or merely just a place to live. The question remains is this keeping the US in poverty and depending programs to survive.
  •
minimum wage has always been a huge topic for many hardworking Americans. I agree that the cost of living has increased due to the coivid 19 outbreak. yet our minimum wage remains the same leading to many Americans not affording the cost of living.
  •
I agree that we need to protect the impoverished and the working class by raising the minimum wage. It is important to acknowledge that cost of living is going to follow the wages as it always does. If we want to truly change things for people with wages, then we need to establish a consistent cost of living to accompany the minimum wage.

I actually wrote a presentation last semester on how the U.S. healthcare system is flawed. In my presentation, I outlined issues such as these. It's refreshing to see others share my views. Personally, this is an interesting read, as I intend on being a part of the healthcare industry. That being said, I believe future generations of healthcare workers need to be educated in matters such as these, so that one day, we may hopefully be able to "fix the system."
  •
America's healthcare is the most expensive amongst industrialized nations. But higher costs aren't leading to a healthier population or longer life expectancy. The high cost of healthcare negatively affects the American economy in many ways.
  •
I found this article to be very fascinating indeed. I hope that one day we will have a health care system that is excess-able to all Americans. Hopefully a solution will be properly found during our life time.

Understanding the Skyrocketing Costs of a College Education An Overview of the Basic Re... - 0 views

  •
Colleges are taking advantage of the fact that more and more students are wanting to attend and get a degree. So many people are willing to pay full price, that soaring prices are the least of their worries. The broadened list of programs, amenities, and higher staff salaries are allowed by this demand and ,therefore, greatly accepted by schools. Clark, K. (2016) An overview of the basic reasons behind the rising cost of college tuition. Available at: https://www.thebalance.com/rising-cost-college-education-795383 (Accessed: 12 September 2016). High-school Dropouts Dost Arizona $7.6 Billion Over Lifetime - 0 views

  •
We all know the negative effects dropping out of high school on individuals, but have you ever thought about how the act of dropping out effects the state you live in? Those who drop out are more likely to be faced with unemployment, poor health, criminal behavior, and need for public assistance. These are all things that end up costing the state billions. This is a chronic issue in our state in particular; Arizona has been ranked one of the highest for high school dropouts for many years.

The Wall and US economic impact - 0 views

  •
This web site shows the negative impact on building a border wall with Mexico. It shows the numbers of US workers and Mexican workers affected by this decision. It shows how much capitol could be lost each day once the wall is built.
  •
Great find! I think that there is no real thought being put into the whole wall situation. Both the U.S. and Mexico have benefited from the ability to import and export goods providing jobs for both sides. The relationship that our current president is establishing will definitely impact our economy in a negative way.
  •
Excellent article! I agree with dennibro about the thought process behind it. First they were going to pay for it, now we are. Then the whole subject of who was going to be paying for this wall started to be backtracked. I think not only is it going to cost an astronomical amount of money to build, it will also cost us a lot to maintain it. I think a better idea is needed.

Cost OF Note Caring:Nowhere To Go - 1 views

  •
America's mental health is becoming an epidemic, yet funding for mental health is at an all time low. States are cutting funding for mental healthcare, in order to save money, yet when they do this they do not understand the repercussions. Many of the mentally ill often end up on the streets, jail or dead. When mental health is not treated we end up with many tragic events such as the 2012 Auroa shooting
  •
This article talks about the effects of mental illness on the people suffering with it as well as families. It talks about how budget cuts mean less care for the sick and how that directly leads to more mentally ill people homeless, in jail, and dead.
