HIGHRISE explores vertical living in the global suburbs. It's multi-year, many-media collaborative documentary experiment at the National Film Board of Canada, directed by Katerina Cizek, produced by Gerry Flahive. Over the years, HIGHRISE will generate many projects, including mixed media, interactive documentaries, mobile productions, live presentations, installations and films. Collectively, the projects will both shape and realize the HIGHRISE vision: to see how the documentary process can drive and participate in social innovation rather than just to document it; and to help re-invent what it means to be an urban species in the 21st century.

In 2011, Sundance Film Festival created The New Frontier Story Lab, an initiative created to foster the development of a new style of media production. As media began to depart from traditional, linear films intended for a passive audience, the launch represented an innovative new era in entertainment.
Reading through a number of posts and articles on everything from social television to transmedia in marketing, I think one thing stands out very clearly. Everyone is looking at transmedia from their own angle. This is very natural and exactly as it should be, as everyone have their own area of expertise, everyone have their own skillsets and everyone have their own projects in mind when deliberating using transmedia storytelling methods.
When I started considering different topics for TEDxTransmedia 2011, I always ended up in the same direction: the power of extending transmedia properties to areas beyond simple entertainment, exploring the potentials of a transmedial approach to actively help shape a better future.
Transmedia has the power to create pro-active communities and to connect generations; and with three typical Italian trademarks PASSION, COURAGE and MAGIC, to make the world better. Rome, for its history, is the Italian town that best enfolds these characteristics therefore I considered to hold the event there.

Stories have defined our world. They have been with us since the dawn of communication, from cave walls to the tall tales recounted around fires. They have continued to evolve with their purpose remaining the same; To entertain, to share common experiences, to teach, and to pass on traditions.

"In the first part of this Better User Experience With Storytelling series, we explored some of the basic structures and story patterns found in myths and religions. We saw how these patterns continued into modern stories such as The Matrix and Star Wars. We also explored some of the basics of bringing storytelling into the user experience process and some places to get started."
As I have probably written previously, it's easy enough to find slideshows and videos about storytelling. You can simply go to SlideShare or YouTube and search using "storytelling" as your search term. But given that, for example, the YouTube search results in 38,000 videos, it's a good idea to watch for others to curate the videos and check out their recommendations (the SlideShare search is set up to return only 16 results; if you search Google using the terms "SlideShare.net" "storytelling," you get 50,000 results, a mix of SlideShare presentations and sites that mention SlideShare presentations).
