StudyBlue, a free online service that enables students to create and store digital "flashcards" to help them master course material, has announced new functionality that allows users to share and compare their online notes with those of their peers. In a little more than a year, students have created more than 40 million online perspectives about everything from the Pythagorean theorem to Vincent Van Gogh's "The Starry Night." "Nearly 2 million more are added each week," said Becky Splitt, CEO of StudyBlue. "This new functionality allows students to connect with each other around shared explanations in a way that takes learning to a whole new level."

Joyce Banda - Free Extraordinary Profiles - 0 views

  •
Joyce Hilda Ntila Banda is the first female president of Malawi and the whole of South Africa. She endured 10 years living with an abusive husband. Unlike most Malawian women, Joyce braved to raise her three children by herself. Eventually, she became a successful businesswoman. The National Association of Business Women was founded to provide Malawians the capital they need to put up their own business in the hope of making them less dependent on their husbands. After nine years, she established the Joyce Banda Foundation to help impoverished children get proper education.

First Fifty Clients - 8 views

  •
Are you interested in: * Starting, or filling your coaching practice? * Having ten to fifty clients? * Creating a good income from coaching? * Becoming a coach, but you're not sure about how to get clients? Unfortunately, obtaining clients can be a very confronting process. Too many coaches are trying to get clients the hard way, and making it a struggle. Too many coaches are training in coaching skills, but not learning the principles to freely grow their practice. Coaches come to me with questions like: How do I get clients? Who would I call? What would I say? Will they think I'm selling to them? What if I get stuck during a session? How can I get clients without being pushy? Won't it be weird or uncomfortable coaching my friends and colleagues? How can I be credible when I don't even have a certification yet? Can I really make a living from coaching? If you can relate to these questions, then you have come to the right place! I've been through these issues, and helped many coaches greatly solve each one. They don't just get more clients, they tap into their passion for coaching, and shine like they're a new person. It's important you have a thriving, successful practice; if you don't - what kind of role model are you for your clients? And the more you get out in the world and coach, the more not only society benefits, but the coaching profession as a whole.

The whole idea of the challenge has sparked my imagination about creating a challenge for teachers. I think teachers might be intrigued by the idea that they can become better at teaching with technology in "X" simple steps. The challenge might take on the title: Become Better at Teaching with Technology, Conquering One Tech Challenge a Month for a Year.

  • Sketchup is remarkably user-friendly! Technology in the classroom is a great tool... it motivates students, stimulates learning, and often levels the playing field. Sketchup is a terrific example... there were gasps of delight and exclamations of enthusiasm as Brian demonstrated just a few of the basics. We all wondered why we had spent so much time with pencil and paper... this looked to be a whole lot more fun and more versatile. Needless to say, every child wanted to try it and they were all able to quickly master a few simple steps with Brian's guidance. I think they would have gladly designed an entire city had we given them time!"

It's very difficult to get others to realize this. A picture is worth...but maybe a picture and text are worth more. If you are just starting on this journey, be warned that it is a bumpy one. It takes others a while to see the "whole picture" and I have to remind myself they'll piece it together at their own pace.
