TeachPaperless: What Makes a Great Teacher a Great Teacher in the 21st Century - 0 views

Next step is to move from paperless teaching to the classrooms with no walls.

When it comes to educational technology, the great teacher isn't the one who merely uses technology in education. The great teacher is the one who experiments and who teaches the spirits within students to experiment. The great teacher doesn't follow the rules. The great teacher doesn't go along with the program. Like a gleeful hacker, the great teacher turns Twitter into a reference library, chat rooms into exit tickets, Skype-casts into global awareness sessions, Wikimedia into a living breathing history of human events, and Pandora into the clothes of sound that wrap around culture and keep us warm on darkest nights.

Why Teachers Should 'Friend' Students Online - Murry's World - 0 views

  • It is NOT Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, YouTube, or any other online community that is the problem. It is the people who are out of touch with today's youth.
  • All I can say is AMEN! I blogged about this last year, as a matter of fact, because it ticks me off that we would have all of this great technology, but NOT use it for expanded educational opportunities that we might not have otherwise had. I love extended the teachable moment beyond the "year" that I'm given with a set of students. Just because they've come and gone doesn't mean my responsibility to continue to teach them if the opportunity presents itself is over. I am a teacher. Not from 7:30 to 2:30. Not just on the weekdays. Not just in my classroom. I am a teacher ALL. OF. THE. TIME. Wherever I am, whatever I'm doing, whether physical or virtual. We should be more worried about the teachers (and critics) who aren't nearly so well connected
  • "teachers should have have relations with students, not a relationship."

5 Ways Twitter Strengthens A School's Learning Community | Connected Principals - 0 views

  • Although we’ve only just completed our first full year in using this socal media tool, we’ve broken the ice on a variety of teaching and learning benefits for parents, teachers and students. Over the summer, we’re planning to engage a shared hashtag to “keep the learning going” – one of the best features that Twitter offers.
  • Our staff’s “learning by Twitter” has occurred in multiple formats this school year: From each other From classroom to classroom From our school parents From their developing Personal Learning Networks (PLNs) From local & national conferences From our district hashtag (#nped) From weekly education chats like #ptchat, #5thchat, #edchat #ntchat & others

"This year, our K-6 staff began learning in a new virtual way using Twitter. After a couple staff in-service trainings and after school workshops, parents and teachers ventured into this new educational Twitterverse. As we enter the final week of school, I'd like to share it's initial impact on teaching and learning from my principal's lens."

I'm doing a personal learning network workshop with a group of media and technology teachers from two different counties on April 24th. I want to share with them just how far reaching a Twitter network can be. I'm sending out a Tweet to the Twitterverse and will add each responder's location to a Google Map to share with groups of teachers. To participate, send a message in Twitter to @misstizzy telling the group your location and any other words of wisdom.

  • teacher in suburban Washington DC has launched a collaborative writing initiative using the messaging tool Twitter. Prepare to be concise!
  • a middle school teacher in Montgomery County, MD, launched Manyvoices, which may be the first collaborative student writing project on Twitter. Mayo’s idea was to embrace Twitter’s 140 character limit as a creative challenge for his students, using a framework known as a Twittory. Created by Cameron Reilly, a Twittory is a story in which each person may add only 140 characters to the story. The story must also be told in 140 posts - no more, no less.

How to: survive teacher training by @NQTBlogger101 - UKEdChat.com - 0 views

  •
I tried to think of a different way of titling this post, I wasn't keen on the word 'surviving' but the more I thought about it, the more I realised that actually, you really do feel like you're surviving… Just about. I've been onto Twitter, Instagram and even scrolled through my personal Facebook a few times to discover that Teacher Training Nerves are setting in. Now, I know you've probably (definitely) heard some complete horror stories but let's begin with an open mind. Having just completed the PGCE, I totally understand why you are so nervy and that is why I've created this post… So, sit back, take a deep breath and repeat "I can do this"...
