Information is more accessible today than ever before. Even with the world at our fingertips and 24/7 access to experts everywhere, we find ourselves in a bind. We know there is great, free content out there that we could use to learn just about anything. We also know that for every great article or video on the Internet there are 100,000 terrible ones to beat it to the top of the search engine results. Seeded from this frustration and fueled with the mission to change the way people access and learn from Internet content, MentorMob is bringing sense to all of this disorganization of valuable information. Creating and editing Learning Playlists is a free and easy process. Not only does it show the world what you know, but it opens your knowledge to people who share your skills so they can help you refine it by adding and editing your Learning Playlist. Each Learning Playlist can be rated, bringing the best ways to learn to the top of the charts.

Author Nicholas Carr: The Web Shatters Focus, Rewires Brains | Magazine - 16 views

  • Dozens of studies by psychologists, neurobiologists, and educators point to the same conclusion: When we go online, we enter an environment that promotes cursory reading, hurried and distracted thinking, and superficial learning. Even as the Internet grants us easy access to vast amounts of information, it is turning us into shallower thinkers, literally changing the structure of our brain.
  • What we’re experiencing is, in a metaphorical sense, a reversal of the early trajectory of civilization: We are evolving from cultivators of personal knowledge into hunters and gatherers in the electronic data forest. In the process, we seem fated to sacrifice much of what makes our minds so interesting.

GCPD on the Air: PLN 101 - 0 views

I wanted to share this link to my new podcast which will feature "podcourses" for professional development purposes. I have just published the first course: PLN 101. It features a series of podcasts and activities designed to take a teacher from knowing absolutely nothing about a PLN, to having a PLN with at least 5 tools. It also contains tips for managing a PLN. Although it was designed with beginners in mind, it may also be a useful resource for those charged with helping teachers develop their PLNs. The podcourse can be accessed online or via a handheld device at www.missgreer.podbean/mobile. I hope you will pass this along and check it out! Please feel free to use it with your staff or to share it with colleagues. I'd love feedback. The next podcourse I'm planning is "20 Days of 2.0" which will feature a short podcast featuring a different 2.0 tool over the course of 20 days. I hope to publish it starting in November. If you'd like a heads up when it comes out, be sure to subscribe. Thanks!

A Place at the Table - 0 views

  • We talk about what teaching and learning ought to look like, without ever really being clear about what we want an education to do. Pictures have different purposes. Their intent may be to record an event, evoke an emotion, preserve a memory, provide documentation, honor an individual, or just please the eye. A great work of art might do all of those things, but it is unrealistic to expect all art to accomplish all of them. Knowing more about the subject of the work, the mind of the artists, the goals of the person who commissioned the work, and cultural setting in which the work was produced my help us understand more about how to view a work of art. So what exactly is it that we are looking for in public education? Do we value symmetry over emphasis? Are we looking for accuracy or imagination? Should education inspire or indoctrinate? Do we want an education that gives us answers or asks us questions? There are a lot of people critiquing the “art” of educating our children. Is the picture of public education all wrong? Or is it that we don’t always know how to look, or where to stand, or what to look for once we’ve got to where we need to be? I don’t know the answers, but it seems to me that the questions are worth asking.
