An overview of “Education 3.0″ A presentation on Society 3.0 and how it necessitates Education 3.0 Knowmads: The new type of workers in Society 3.0

You have to do an enormous amount of listening; You have to be really honest; Don't waver in your commitment; and Have an understanding partner who puts up with long hours and rented digs.

To be true, there are examples where the company seemed to hold the future in its hands, only to fumble on the way to a slam dunk.

Interpretation: If you scored 32-35: You value mentoring in your organization.If you scored 28-31: You're doing all right, but need to improve.If you scored 25-27: You definitely need to take stock right now.If you scored 0-24: You're are, or will be, in trouble.

Using the most advanced forms of information search engines, networks, early artificial intelligence, and the aforementioned volunteers, there is an opportunity to leapfrog education beyond any of the competition. This will require fundamental changes in the mission, structure, and curricula of education at all levels.

Now, with study becoming a lifelong enterprise, and with the advent of a galaxy of new media, “learning” seems once again poised to become all things to all people, be they lay or scholarly.

we may well have reached a set of tipping points: Going forward, learning may be far more individualized, far more in the hands (and the minds) of the learner, and far more interactive than ever before

Students should be involved in all aspects of the assessment process.

Linked to assessment  is the importance of timely, appropriate, detailed and specific feedback. Feedback as a learning tool, is second only to the teaching of thinking skills [Michael Pohl]. As 21st Century teachers, we must provide and facilitate safe and appropriate feedback, developing an environment where students can safely and supportively be provided with and provide feedback. Students are often full of insight and may have as valid a perspective as we teachers do.

Tony Wagner, from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, lists assessing and analyzing information as one of the seven survival skills in the new world of work. I think the ability to create a PLN is a fundamental information-management skill that will help my students succeed in the future.

An RSS reader is a Web site that puts together all this information in an easy-to-read format. Google Reader, netvibes, Pageflakes, Bloglines, and my preferred reader, iGoogle, are all examples of sites providing RSS readers. The RSS reader is the raw material for building a PLN.

With PLNs, we can now empower the personalized learning we've been longing to bring to education. I'm thrilled that my students know how to connect efficiently to great sources of information and can now construct an environment that will make them lifelong learners. And, truly, creating a self-directed learner is the pinnacle of educational achievement.
