I have not heard of any of the 9 programs chosen to review - so if they're free, I'll be checking these out "for improving reading and writing in the classroom." They were English Language Arts (ELA) teachers, but could have use for second/world language instruction as well.

I am fascinated by this notion of "lurking" to describe students/ people on-line who do not respond immediately but take time to read and reflect. Interesting research questions whether this impacts their learning positively and how to assess their learning. Maybe someone can find a better name, too?

Wow, this just seems like an awesome idea. I've been toying with the idea of getting an iPad, just for fun, and this makes me want to get one and play around with it before the next school year starts.

I really like this idea! The teacher can give a much more detailed commentary on the assessment and with that the student may come away with a better understanding of necessary improvements.

This is a great idea and I like that there are other gadgets that can be used in conjunction. However I assume this would only be useful if you are a f2f teacher. In Blackboard we have wimba voice authoring which allows us to give audio feedback. I use this tool a lot and I feel that those who actually listen to my feedback profit from it.

I used Socrative last year with first grade. Easy to use, you can add pictures to the questions. And kids can solve them at their own piece. No more papers to review any more!! Google forms is also great!!

When I took online classes, doing projects in teams was one of the things I liked least - at the beginning - but after having done some projects that were well-structured, I have to say that those were the learning experiences where I learned the most.

Great activity ideas! Loved seeing the appreciative comments and shares from the French teachers in the comment loop-- Aren't we lucky to live in an age where we can share great ideas from near and far-- Encouragement for us all to add to the web of resources and share out what we are doing as well (note to self).

Great suggestions in this article for using Flipgrid. I really like the idea of keeping track of completed assignments (in my school that would be considered a Habit of Work as we do not grade homework anyhow) and perhaps using Flipgrid as part of a summative assessment at the end of the semester...lots of no stress practice and, by the time the assessment comes, they are all familiar with the technology.

Thanks for sharing this article! I liked the idea of different context and different identity :-) Sometimes students express themselves more comfortable at the beginning through the use of alternate identities. Specially if they have to video record themselves when they are learning the language.

My only concern is that how much the material they use in video can be authentic.
