"Over the past academic year, my students and I have been experimenting with the use of a number of web based applications (often known as Web 2.0 tools). My aim has been to enhance our schemes of work by providing our students with new and exciting learning opportunities. In my opinion, using technology effectively has clear benefits for both teaching and learning and can help to improve motivation by engaging pupils in activities which, perhaps, step out of their ordinary school experience and which show them that it is possible to teach and learn about a subject using tools similar to those they use daily outside school. In other words, we have tried to use the types of tools with which they are often already familiar. I have written about each of these individual tools in separate posts, but I thought it would be useful to list the ten most used internet applications on one post. An article by Julie Meloni, published on the Chronicle of Higher Education's (now defunct) "ProfHacker" blog. Meloni offers a quick overview of the distinction between synchronous and asynchronous communication, and suggests ways to make use of both in the classroom.

Unfortunately, this article has been removed. But I like Jennifer's comment: "Just because a tool is new and shiny doesn't mean it will help your students. Careful planning and a sound pedagogical rationale will, though."

Here are some audio editing tools if you need any.  I have used Audacity.  I didn't know there were so many others!

Thanks Amy, I also have used Audacity, but just to have students record their answers to an oral test. Now I've learned about other uses and other tools. Great!

Prezi is a good resource for students to look at a wide array of related topics and choose the angle that best suits their research or class direction. Gradeguru and Notehall are mainly about student exchange of helpful notes and study materials. Dropbox is mainly a storage tool that also allows sharing and exching files. Chegg is a book rental tool.

Rich Internet Applications project helps create tools that engage language learners in active learning.

Mashup is a great tool and the students like it too.

Thanks for posting this; Audio Dropbox would be a useful tool for practicing leaving voicemails, etc.

A blog post by Chuck Tryon that describes a video annotation tool. He also mentions a text annotation tool by the same company (SocialBook).

Author Laura McClelland describes 4 tools of importance for online learning. She stresses the importance of building community.

This tool can create and add beautiful videos with photos, text and music for presentational or other communicative activities. The user can begin with a template and ready made images or start from scratch with their own images.

I tried this tech tool but I couldn't figure out how to make a video that is beyond basic.

Food for thought - brings up the Bloom's Taxonomy and higher thinking skills as the purpose for using tools, not teaching tools.

Basic primer for those of us just starting to explore curation tools and looking to find the right fit.

I like the features of padlet and have personally used the platform in several webinars, but have yet to use the tool myself! I think that will definitely try this platform in the upcoming school year.

His videos are so helpful! Thanks for sharing. Does anyone know if Flipgrid integrates with Sakai? A big concern for me is to keep things simple and streamlined for students. Sending them information through different channels seems to just ask for things to get overlooked or lost. Thanks!

It sound like this guy is in the right place at the right time! I love reading but honestly video tutorials can be sooo helpful and nice to watch when they are well produced! I've seen in his channel another tool I love and I haven't used for a while: Adobe Spark.
