The Google+ Language Hangout Experiment « Foreign Language « Look Out, Knock ... - 2 views

Cool!! If anyone is looking to see how a hangout could work, and you speak Spanish or Chinese, maybe try this out!
  • The idea is simple: I want to host a public Hangout (so anyone can join) and people may come in and practice with me any one of the three languages I speak (Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, and yes English too!).  I’m not counting Japanese yet because I still can’t really produce Japanese effectively.

  • “I actually cried with joy at reading this post and finding out that Google and the Google+ team actually care about all of their user base. Thank you very much for just thinking about us.”

This really struck me because, as a hearing person, I take for granted that there might be issues for hearing-impaired people. It's so cool to me that developers are concerned about these users and are working to make their product a good one for them. This could also be relevant to those who wish to chat online with ASL "speakers" when they are trying to learn ASL!

Grading with Voice on an iPad - ProfHacker - The Chronicle of Higher Education - 6 views

Wow, this just seems like an awesome idea. I've been toying with the idea of getting an iPad, just for fun, and this makes me want to get one and play around with it before the next school year starts.
  •
I really like this idea! The teacher can give a much more detailed commentary on the assessment and with that the student may come away with a better understanding of necessary improvements.

This is a great idea and I like that there are other gadgets that can be used in conjunction. However I assume this would only be useful if you are a f2f teacher. In Blackboard we have wimba voice authoring which allows us to give audio feedback. I use this tool a lot and I feel that those who actually listen to my feedback profit from it.

Learning Technology News | Scoop.it - 1 views

Very interesting postings, many of them with appealing pictures or other visuals. The topics seem to span a broad area within the area of learning with technology. This is Garett, by the way.

Hi Garrett, I was following his blog, too: Niks' Learning Technology Blog (via Feedly). He reviews and demos a lot of great tools. One thing I had a problem with is that nothing seems to be dated. One of is blogs had a bunch of great tools on it and I found links that were useful. Then, other links in the same blog were broken or, even for me, seemed way out of date (hasn't everyone already heard of Firefox?).

One of my friends started up one of these Scoop.it "newsletters" and I get messages weekly from it - automated. I wonder if she even knows it's still running...?
