For those who are using Blackboard at school, this tutorial video will be very helpful.

This can be a handy direction (in both video and writing) for using Voice Thread in Blackboard for people like me who are using Bb. Thanks for sharing!
  •
Due to issues I've encountered lately with opening sites and links that did not like my laptop, I've decided to stick with tools offered in BB which is what is used at my school. The explanations look clear enough for EVEN ME to figure out so I am thrilled to be able to access this tool AND use it!

Grading with Voice on an iPad - ProfHacker - The Chronicle of Higher Education - 6 views

  •
Wow, this just seems like an awesome idea. I've been toying with the idea of getting an iPad, just for fun, and this makes me want to get one and play around with it before the next school year starts.
  •
I really like this idea! The teacher can give a much more detailed commentary on the assessment and with that the student may come away with a better understanding of necessary improvements.
  •
This is a great idea and I like that there are other gadgets that can be used in conjunction. However I assume this would only be useful if you are a f2f teacher. In Blackboard we have wimba voice authoring which allows us to give audio feedback. I use this tool a lot and I feel that those who actually listen to my feedback profit from it.

An Online Oral Practice/Assessment Platform: Speak Everywhere | IALLT - 4 views

  •
"Abstract Despite its obvious importance, it appears that in many foreign language programs, oral practice is not given as much time and attention as it deserves. Or perhaps it is more accurate to say that foreign language professionals recognize the need for more oral practice, but do not have at their disposal a convenient means to provide it. An online oral practice/assessment platform, Speak Everywhere, has been developed to fill this void. It allows instructors without special computer knowledge to quickly create video-based speaking exercises and quizzes for their students to work on outside the classroom. The instructor can access the oral productions that the students submit to the system, and grade them or give individual feedback on them either in text or audio or both. Using its flexible and easy-to-use authoring sub-system, it is possible to create exercises of various formats (e.g. Q&A, repeat after the model, structure drills, role-play, and oral reading)."

Flipping the Classroom for ESL learners | Online Learning - 3 views

  •
Tenth grade ESL literature class, and how the teacher changed his mind about flipping a classroom.  I wonder how he deals with access to technology- if that is an issue students face.
  •
This was very interesting for me to read and made the flipped classroom model seem purposeful and useful in an ESL setting. I also worry about access to technology though...thanks for sharings!

Comics Lab Extreme - 1 views

  •
I've been looking for another comic-maker that will let you upload your own photos - this one does! It also has a pretty large gallery of characters, backgrounds, etc. You have a choice to make a comic book, comic strip/e-card, presentation, manga, or a graphic novel. This is a great site for elementary kids for a lot of different areas, but the comic creator is for grades 3-12.

Is Facebook making students more narcissistic or are narcissistic students drawn to Facebook? Checking Facebook every 15 minutes during an hour of study? You'll get worse grades...

Social Media in the Classroom-For Kindergartners Through High Schoolers - 2 views

  • Remember to give students guidelines on ways they can respond. For example, they should not just say that they agree with what a certain student said. They should be specific and say what they agree with and why. Use specific examples in class of good posts and not-so-good posts.

good suggestion not just for grade school students but high school students as well
  • talk to the other teachers in your school and try to agree on one or two social networking tools you will all use
    • Lorraine Effler

good idea if multiple teachers or departments want to use social media...not to overwhelm teachers or students
  • however, for teachers to regularly monitor the networks, removing inappropriate posts and keeping a dialog open with students about appropriate use of the school social network.
    • Lorraine Effler

      absolutely!

Building Digital Literacy Bridges: Connecting Cultures and Promoting Global Citizenship... - 0 views

  •
Abstract: "Students deepen their content knowledge and collaborative skills as they interact with others across the globe. In order to deepen early childhood students' awareness and understanding of the world, teachers worked with their classes to develop and share school-based virtual field trips. The researcher sought to (a) identify the steps to create a school-based virtual field trip, and (b) understand how virtual field trips can promote global and/or content understandings. Qualitative results reveal that the steps taken to create a trip varied by grade. Students were motivated to teach other students about their school and were able to learn about different cultures. A variety of literacy skills were also utilized in the virtual field trips."

The NEW Google Forms: 9 classroom uses | Ditch That Textbook - 2 views

  •
Google Forms - new version, and classroom use ideas from Matt's blog
  •
I've used google forms for sending surveys to staff before. I've NEVER thought about how cool it would be to use for students and collecting answers on quizzes or analyzing the answer responses they submit. I probably would use this more if I was teaching in the upper grades... Any ideas for K-2 ESL uses??

I think this is another great use of this tool and students can do this perhaps as an extra activity which will allow them to practice their new vocabulary without the pressure of receiving a grade for it. I also use this to create "Spanish in action" cartoons to embed in my announcements.
