An interesting article that tries to explain Miley's expansion on her new identity, in terms of pushing the "slut line."

"Well how about that. Miley Cyrus is self-aware." Pretty self-explanatory; I liked this because I think it brings out a fresh perspective of Cyrus.

This is an old article on when Katy Perry was named woman of the year back in 2012. I found this article interesting though because in her speech Perry makes statements saying that she isn't a Feminist but she believes in strong women. The author of the article also states that Perry was named Woman of the Year because she has been quiet and doesn't make any complaints.

Rolling Stone Miley Cyrus for the racy cover of the Oct. 10 issue of Rolling Stone magazine. Miley also talks about her VMA's performances and how that now people expect her to twerk with her tongue lashing out and interestingly she said she would never do it again.

This article focuses on the mumblecore genre of film and discusses how it portrays youth culture and "privileged white slackers." It expands upon Halberstam's discussion of the films and gives new insight into it.

This article explains more and how this once in a life time opportunity could have helped her career escalate, instead, it might just help ruin it.

Another post from Rolling Stone this time a recent photo shoot. Interesting to see visually how Cyrus is flaunting her new edgy, grunge look.

Wow, I didn't even know she was going to be on the cover. It's especially interesting how, in one of the photo captions, Cyrus herself points out that there was a double standard at the VMAs.

I don't know if you guys heard this (actually I might post it) But because of her performance at the VMAs, Vogue withdrew Miley's chance to be on their cover in... November/December because of how disgraceful it was.

It was something we touched on a few classes ago about Miley Cyrus being the centre of attention in the VMAs controversy yet Robin Thicke managed to slice through without much criticism. In this article it is suggested that sexism and discrimination are really the only reason anyone is still talking about Miley's raunchy performance at the VMAs last month.

Article that reviews "Katy Perry: Part of Me"

This blog post talks about Lady Gaga's video for "Born this Way."  Horn believes that while Lady Gaga establishes herself as Queen Elizabeth I in the opening of her video, Lady Gaga is an "anti" Queen Elizabeth I because of the gender issues between the two.

The quote Miley uses "People are going to talk, might as well make them talk for two weeks instead of two seconds" Is a really interesting take on why celebrities have overdramatize things. 

I thought I would post this as it was menitone in class. This is a clip of Lady Gaga at a festival, she gets of the motorbike a shows what appears to be a penis. What do you think was this just a publicity stunt?

I thinks it's really interesting that Gaga decided to use the critism against her and make it work for her image.

I honestly feel so weird having watched this 5 or 6 times looking for a penis. Honestly, I think it was just her underwear, but even if it was a publicity stunt, it was done in Gaga style.

Upon finding this video i thought it was quite interesting in relation to our popular culture class. Whilst social media is part of popular culture this video, 'musicalised' Twitter! In part it is satirising what twitter has become in that people write about absolutely anything and so we are becoming 'fools', also that the celebrity world (such as Lady Gaga vs Perez Hilton) can be watched in your home and you don't even have to leave your bed! However it also emphasises the positives of social media where everyone is now  ''connected far and wide''and that the world is intertwined. Therefore the message presented is that twitter is what you make it.

Cover of We Can't Stop that is interesting in its representation of black people. Links to what was discussed in class, in Cyrus' video the balck women are used as props in this video they play a much more active role.

This video is fascinating -- it seems to not only speak to Cyrus's original video, but also the Pixies video we watched the first day of class (I'm thinking of the scenes of bathing in milk and fruitloops). A perhaps reclaiming of black bodies and spaces?

A retelling of CInderella using only Beyoncé songs. Entertaining!

I love this! I think its a brilliant piece of convergence of classic storytelling and modern music. It's entertaining, clever and a really interesting way of interpreting a fairytale and making it relevant to pop culture and music.

Interesting photo post on Rolling Stone that sums up what we've discussing in terms of Cyrus being objectified and viewed only through the lens of her Disney past.

This is interesting. I read Gaga's tweet as kind of an ownership of stigma, like a "it's dangerous to hang out with me, look what happened to Miley" -- but that it's totally fine for what happened to Miley, because she chose to do it. Perhaps this is what Bauer and Halberstam are both getting at: our abilities to choose, and re-narrate stories.
