Personally, I think Miley Cyrus' video is very powerful, and this parody reinforces my feelings about that. It's definitely interesting to see a guy in her position, I won't deny it. I understand where everyone is coming from with the complaints about her nudity, but in my opinion, there's a much deeper meaning behind it.
Kind of late, but I was remembering the conversations we were having after watching the Monster Ball. We talked about Lady Gaga wanting the attention and constantly telling the crowd to cheer and scream for her. I think this parody of her song "Applause" touches on a lot of that and throws a little Madonna in the song as well. And it's pretty funny. Enjoy!
This was amazing! I think it is so relevant so the point about authenticity. At first Gaga was considered new, original and exciting but now people have gotten bored of her. Maybe it's because she has lost her authenticity and originality or is it just because people can see through all her make up, clothing and persona, therefore diminishing her as an artist.
I found this hilarious parody of Taylor Swift and her song Trouble. This Parody focuses on Taylor Swift's love life and sees her ex-boyfriends speaking out against the fact she constantly writes about her break ups. I thought it was a fun way to show how Taylor Swift is represented in the media.
Similarly to the Robin Thicke's 'Blurred Lines' ban at a Scottish university an American university have removed a sculpture of a wrecking ball due to many parodies of Miley's now infamous 'wrecking ball' music video. Although it is noted that this was because of wear and tear of the structural cords.
Too many people were making Miley Cyrus' Wrecking Ball parodies, so Grand Valley State University had to take down their sculpture. They are calling it a safety hazard. Do you think it is because they don't want the attention due to Miley's video drawn to their campus?
Another Miley Cyrus Parody! I find these hilarious and I would be interested to see what Miley herself would think of these. Is this the way she wanted this video to appear? However like they say no publicity is bad publicity!
Best Trailer Ever! This video is a parody of the Hunger Gamer and made it into the Hungry Games. This video can relate to the black culture discussion in class. The video uses black stereotypes and takes the mick out of what is considered 'black culture', whether it's attitude, music, style etc. Although if say a white person did this wouldn't there be backlash, so how is it okay for african americans to satirize themselves but not others?
We have heard the song, and heard parodies with opposite gender roles. What does everybody think about this cover with a female singing about a male. She does it in a much different way than we have seen with the actual song and the parodies we have looked at.
This clip is from the TV show Happy Endings. It has six friends who hang out together, and they are all at a wedding. Max, the guy who is singing the Madonna song, is gay, and is part of a Madonna band called "Mandonna." I know we talked about Lady Gaga and Madonna, and I just thought this is a funny parody of Madonna.
Today in class we discussed parodies and it reminded me of this Jon Lajoie ditty. He is arguing that all pop songs have the same song structure and are unoriginal.
Hey guys! So I'm watching SNL and it turns out Miley Cyrus is hosting & performing tonight. Here's a link with the promo!
Update: She just did a parody of "We Can't Stop." It's about the government shutting down. Really funny! Katy Perry will be hosting within the next few weeks as well.
