Twitter - The Musical - YouTube - 1 views

  •
Upon finding this video i thought it was quite interesting in relation to our popular culture class. Whilst social media is part of popular culture this video, 'musicalised' Twitter! In part it is satirising what twitter has become in that people write about absolutely anything and so we are becoming 'fools', also that the celebrity world (such as Lady Gaga vs Perez Hilton) can be watched in your home and you don't even have to leave your bed! However it also emphasises the positives of social media where everyone is now  ''connected far and wide''and that the world is intertwined. Therefore the message presented is that twitter is what you make it.

I thought this music video contributed to our discussion about the theme of the coming of age, "good girl gone bad" story that is of interest in popular culture. It also comments on gender and feminism.

Interesting that when the Youtube Awards went on that everyone expected and focused the fact that the group who won best music award was not a popular American group or one that was really on the radar here.

P!nks most Girls video - 1 views

  •
This is one of P!nks early video. She's singing about wanting 'real love', which is very different to her more recent music. Her image here is more mainstream and it appears her 'real' image was not presented until she became more popular in the industry. This could perhaps be compared to Miley Cyrus' recent transformation however P!nk was arguably less shocking and more mature.

Inside "The Fox" with Vegard Ylvisåker from Ylvis - 0 views

This an interview with one of the members of Ylvis who did the Fox song. This interview was used to ask Ylvis why they thought their video of the Fox was so popular
  •
"Nothing else than being amused and laughing and having a good time." I really liked Vegard Ylvisaker's view on The Fox song. Since they started as a comedy group and have been doing this for years, he didn't set out for this to be superstardom but just wanted to make people laugh.

Lady Gaga the copycat! - 1 views

  •
I found this Facebook page made especially to shoot down lady gaga and show all the ways in that she has 'supposedly' copied other artists images. At face value when looking though the collective photos that people have added to prove so, it is quite astonishing at the resemblances between lady gaga and other artists before her.

Though perhaps this video will never exceed the others viewed in this class in overall complexity, I figured I had to introduce you all to this as it is on its ways to becoming a pop culture phenomenon much like Psy's Gangnam Style. That and it's also legit and sounds awesome. Enjoy!
  •
I saw this circulating on Facebook earlier this week. So strange!
  •
Saw this video yesterday for the first time. I have to say it is very catchy and I agree how it is like Gangnam Style and becoming suddenly popular! Thank you for posting this!

Rihanna: Pour It Up - 0 views

  •
The video for Rihanna's new single Pour It Up. I think its interesting how provocative and sexualised the video is and the timing going up against Cyrus' recent scandals. The importance of twerking in the video as well, Cyrus may not have started the culture but her appropriation of it has definitely made it a more popular trend.

Reasons why Taylor Swift is worse than Miley Cyrus - 0 views

  •
here are six arguments stating that Taylor Swift is worse than Miley
  •
This is probably the WORST article for someone like me to read. Purely because I just LOVE Taylor Swift and couldn't hate Miley Cyrus anymore if I tried. Whoever wrote this is obviously just basing their facts off of the stuff that is touched upon in the media, particularly in relation to the songs Taylor Swift writes. 1. Oh Taylor's songs lack depth? And Miley's don't? Turn on the radio and listen to some of the trash they call 'music' on there and then come back and say that again. Yes, she writes about breakups but at least she can say that she experienced her songs unlike the crap that most popular artists sings who's lyrics were practically pulled out of a hat and strung together. 2. Not ALL her songs are about how she was victimized by her exes, they just so happen to be the ones that make it to the charts. For example, 'Back to December' was written about her previous relationship with Taylor Lautner and that she was wrong for hurting him etc. 'Better Than Revenge' is claimed to be about Camilla Belle after she quickly hooked up with Joe Jonas after he and Taylor split. Her first hit and most famous song 'Love Story' isn't even about a break up! 3. People criticize that Taylor is predictable because she only writes songs about break ups, well if that's so then why doesn't the public gather together and get her non-breakup songs on the charts? Why? Because they prefer the breakup ones. 4. Miley is a self-absorbed, loud, ex Disney star who is trying to break away from her Hannah Montana image and is only making her image worse.

Miley Cyrus Voted Worse Celeberity Influence by Teenagers (2009 & 2010) - 1 views

  •
I found this interesting how Miley Cyrus managed to win the title of the worst celebrity influence in both 2009 and 10, yet in comparison to now, (in my opinion) she was probably a better influence then than what she is now. Though that is another interesting aspect oft his link. Considering the publicity stunts Cyrus has pull so far this year, will she win that title again for 2013? Or will it be the complete opposite? I feel that she deserves the title, but it's likely that she won't get it. Her sudden surge in popularity might actually take her off the 'worst celebrity influence' list completely.

27 Of The Most Mind-Bogglingly Stupid Song Lyrics Of All Time - 0 views

  •
Did you ever hear a lyric and be like, "Wait, what did they just say?" Shockingly, only about half of these are from Nicki Minaj. This is a comical look at some lyrics in songs that the lyrics make no sense. I think there is something for almost everyone (genre) in this post
  •
This is an interesting find, when you read the lyrics you realise how little sense they make. Perhaps this demonstrates how its not just music that is important for an artist to make it in the industry. Rihanna for example could sing anything and still make hits perhaps this is because or her risqué performances and outfit choices. It is interesting when you said have you ever listened and thought "wait what did they say" in all honestly I don't I just sing the song without questioning the lyrics, perhaps because the song is in the charts by a popular artist therefore it must be good!

Racialicious - the intersection of race and pop culture - 0 views

I'm not sure if anyone has seen this website before but i though it was amazing with a capital 'A'!! Most of the posts are about the relationship between race and pop culture and the media. So if anyone was thinking of doing their final project with relations to race and pop culture then this is definitely a site to browse through.

Sexism, Feminism and Taylor Swift - 1 views

  •
I liked this article because it gives the pros and cons of Taylor Swift, whether you like her or dislike her. The author does a great job stating straight facts about Taylor Swift. I thought that she has dated an outrageous amount of men throughout her career due to all of the breakup songs, but she really has only dated five guys in the past six years!
  •
Similarly to Carolyn Gerig, I also find it irritating when people say they don't like Taylor Swift because she 'dates too many guys'. People tend to base this off the fact that a majority of her MOST POPULAR songs are break up songs and the fact that her relationships are all the media can seem to talk about. In this article, Gearig explains how people who have this view on her need to get their facts straight before making their judgement on her. If you don't like her style of music or you don't think she's a good singer, then by all means have it your way. But if your reasons for not liking her are due to her relationship habits, then you need to read this and have a rethink.
