Kids React to Gay Marriage - YouTube - 0 views

  •
This YouTube video ties into the discussion about discrimination and post-racial america. By watching this video it gives an amazing insight from the point of view of the youth and how gay marriage is perceived today. It would have been great to find a similar interview with children of the same age from 30 years ago and compare the opinions, just to see how perspectives have changed over the past decades. But what i found most intriguing is that some of the kids reactions where of confusion but when they were asked why they thought gay marriage was weird or 'crazy' they didn't actually know why. Is this because they don't understand what is going on, or is it because they actually think it weird?

Youtube Awards - 0 views

  •
Interesting that when the Youtube Awards went on that everyone expected and focused the fact that the group who won best music award was not a popular American group or one that was really on the radar here.

▶ Miss Representation Extended Trailer - YouTube - 0 views

  •
This is an extended trailer of a documentary called "Miss Representation".  The documentary explores the effect that media and media's portrayals of women affect women in every day life.  The actual documentary is on Netflix and is only an hour and a half long, and is definitely worth the watch.

▶ Teens React to Robin Thicke - Blurred Lines - YouTube - 0 views

  •
A very interesting take on the Rated version of Blurred lines from a group of different teenagers. Some quotes I found interesting was: "If a guy watches it, they think its completely ok to do that to women and its not ok" "Its a song, not like its this whole movement saying 'women's suck'"

The quote Miley uses "People are going to talk, might as well make them talk for two weeks instead of two seconds" Is a really interesting take on why celebrities have overdramatize things.

Twitter - The Musical - YouTube - 1 views

  •
Upon finding this video i thought it was quite interesting in relation to our popular culture class. Whilst social media is part of popular culture this video, 'musicalised' Twitter! In part it is satirising what twitter has become in that people write about absolutely anything and so we are becoming 'fools', also that the celebrity world (such as Lady Gaga vs Perez Hilton) can be watched in your home and you don't even have to leave your bed! However it also emphasises the positives of social media where everyone is now  ''connected far and wide''and that the world is intertwined. Therefore the message presented is that twitter is what you make it.

This is my favorite band right now. Their music video is pretty interesting. I would recommend watching it a few times and if you have spare time look up the video in reverse. (The video is backwards) It doesn't really have a lot of what we are talking about, but it is just very interesting to watch! And i would love to debate about it!!

▶ The Hungry Games by Todrick Hall - YouTube - 1 views

  •
Best Trailer Ever! This video is a parody of the Hunger Gamer and made it into the Hungry Games.  This video can relate to the black culture discussion in class. The video uses black stereotypes and takes the mick out of what is considered 'black culture', whether it's attitude, music, style etc. Although if say a white person did this wouldn't there be backlash, so how is it okay for african americans to satirize themselves but not others?

The Prodigy - Smack My Bitch Up HQ (Uncensored).mp4 - YouTube - 0 views

  •
This video is rather outlandish, the video is shows the abuse and overt sexualisation of females, but it isn't until the very end that the point of view is changed.  For Gayle Rubin class
  •
Hannah, I think this video is great for analysis -- I'm thinking of R&W's point about how videos create authenticity, and that this video, through that shift at the end, tries to portray Prodigy as somehow clever, not misogynist. It's a "clever" move to say: "Look, we're not violent! All people, even women, are violent. We and our fans don't have to think about being implicated in a culture that's violent toward women, because everyone is violent toward everyone!" That changed point of view, in my reading, is way to build "ethos" with their fans and allow them to continue to be violent and cool.

▶ Lady Gaga - "Applause" PARODY - YouTube - 1 views

  •
Kind of late, but I was remembering the conversations we were having after watching the Monster Ball. We talked about Lady Gaga wanting the attention and constantly telling the crowd to cheer and scream for her. I think this parody of her song "Applause" touches on a lot of that and throws a little Madonna in the song as well. And it's pretty funny. Enjoy!
  •
This was amazing! I think it is so relevant so the point about authenticity. At first Gaga was considered new, original and exciting but now people have gotten bored of her. Maybe it's because she has lost her authenticity and originality or is it just because people can see through all her make up, clothing and persona, therefore diminishing her as an artist.

▶ Bastille cover Miley Cyrus' We Can't Stop in the Live Lounge - YouTube - 1 views

  •
Bastille does a very cool cover of Miley's "We Can't Stop" and change the lyrics up a little bit at the end and include some of "Achy Breaky Heart" into it. One of the comments under the video points out how they are using the intro to "Lose Yourself" by Eminem to suggest Miley is "losing herself".
  •
I love Bastille and I love this cover! I also liked how they changed up the song and made it a comment about Miley herself.

A retelling of CInderella using only Beyoncé songs. Entertaining!
  •
I love this! I think its a brilliant piece of convergence of classic storytelling and modern music. It's entertaining, clever and a really interesting way of interpreting a fairytale and making it relevant to pop culture and music.
