This review of A Day To Remember's new album raises interesting issues of authenticity, with the review arguing that the album is much better and more authentic because of the struggle the band had with the record label and a court case over it's release and contractual requirements, suggesting they are more sympathetic and ergo more authentic because of this. 

I thought this was an interesting article in relation to pop culture and how authentic things have become, especially with the introduction of new technologies such as auto-tune and music sampling and editing. The article goes deeper into these. Thus those who want to make a imprint on the industry as the article states is going to be increasingly difficult because ''even the most sincere expressions of self will have to be multiple and complicated''.

This is an article from the British magazine "Look", Its dicussing how Adele turned down an 12 million pound deal to replace Cheryl Cole as the face of Loreal. Adele says no because she doesn't want to be associated with a brand for fear of 'selling out'. I though this went well with our discussions of authenticity; unlike other artists Adele money comes 100% from the sale of her music which I think is both impressive and admirable.

I thought this was interesting because by adressing the idea of "selling out," Adele demonstrates what she considers "fake" about other pop artists. It gives insight into how we see authenticity as opposing commercialism and supporting brand names in the music industry. It also shows another dimension of why the public considers Adele an authentic artist.

Since this weeks readings are on authenticity, I thought I'd share this music video by the band Foster The People which takes a rather comical approach to issues of authenticity, by having the studio executive struggling to find a way to make the band play a show even after they have died. 

The video for 'Can't Hold Us' features a message of freedom, individuality and authenticity. In the closing sequence it features Mackmore atop the Seattle Space needle and mounting a 'The Heist' flag for their album. This links to the Nirvana grunge rock scene that came to represent artist integrity, authenticity and anti-establishment ideals.

I found this short article about the authenticity of Gorillaz and I found it particularly interesting that the lead guitarist is female. Also, the article discusses more virtual bands in the United States as well as Japan's new phenomenon of "vocaloids."

I love this song, this is when I feel Lilly Allen was at her prom dress and nike airmax wearing best. Lilly Allen used to sing about her real personal experiences such as 'my little brothers in his bedroom smokin weed!'. I feel she was always a very authentic artists however I feel in recent years she has lost some of that authenticity my distancing herself from that side of her past and singing about more mainstream things such as love which she does when featuring in Pinks recent song 'True Love'.

These vine type videos love to poke fun at what Miley Cyrus used to say, and then cropping in another clip that contradicts that. It plays on Miley Cyrus' authenticity and the question of who she really is.

A mash up of a more authentic and a less authentic band. We had a small dicsussion about this in class on Tuesday

Here is a youtube clip talking about a scientific study on how similar pop songs are to other pop songs. They talk about the similar beats and chord progressions and songs these days are all from the same cookie cutter outline. They are saying that essentially this is proof that pop music sucks and it lacks authenticity. Let me know what you think!

Kind of late, but I was remembering the conversations we were having after watching the Monster Ball. We talked about Lady Gaga wanting the attention and constantly telling the crowd to cheer and scream for her. I think this parody of her song "Applause" touches on a lot of that and throws a little Madonna in the song as well. And it's pretty funny. Enjoy!

This was amazing! I think it is so relevant so the point about authenticity. At first Gaga was considered new, original and exciting but now people have gotten bored of her. Maybe it's because she has lost her authenticity and originality or is it just because people can see through all her make up, clothing and persona, therefore diminishing her as an artist.

As a huge Isosine fan, I was super excited when one of the articles we read posted the mash-up of Taylor Swift & Korn. So, I thought I'd share with all of you guys his newest release: "Little Wrecking Ball." Hope you guys enjoy it. :)
