New Miley Cyrus Music Video - 0 views

  •
Miley Cyrus is featured in Mike WiLL Made-It's new music video for "23." Caught my attention because someone posted this on Facebook, saying the following: "Miley Cyrus... No one wants to 'get like you.' Sorry sweetheart."
  •
Ha! I love how much I agree with that person. I watched this video the other day and found it just awful. She says how she wants to shock people and I think with every video that comes out, she does shock that little bit more. But the shock isn't a positive thing. People are starting to get irritated with her more than anything, I know I am and eventually, the shock and irritation will make people lose interest in her. It is likely that people would have got bored of her had she stayed her usual Hannah Montana self, but at least she wouldn't have been irritating. No matter how hard she tries, she's always going to have a part of her Disney past to her name, similarly, no matter what she does, these publicity stunts she keeps pulling are going to be with her for even longer. The person she is now, she isn't going to want to be her forever and one day she will wake up and realise what an idiot she's made of herself. She'll also realise that this 'reckless persona' that she's made is going to be MUCH harder to shake off. Sorry, that turned into a little bit of a rant. I just have a lot to say on Miley Cyrus!
  •
I agree with you Gina, but i think what the problem is, is that despite people becoming bored and irritated by her people want to see what see does next. Is it going to be more outlandish or shocking than the next? And that is what i think Miley herself counts on. Like she said in her new documentary trailer, she'd rather be talked about for two week than two seconds. So in turn i think that she see's any publicity, even if it's bad publicity, is better than no publicity at all.

Everyone Needs to Read Sinead O'Connor's Open Letter to Miley Cyrus - 0 views

  •
After learning that Miley Cyrus sees her as a model, Sinead O'Connor wrote her an open letter urging her to see that corporations are using her and will leave her out to dry once she's "used up." Cyrus's unfortunate response on Twitter was to call her crazy.

Pop music notes on the decade: Authenticity takes a holiday - latimes.com - 3 views

  •
I thought this was an interesting article in relation to pop culture and how authentic things have become, especially with the introduction of new technologies such as auto-tune and music sampling and editing. The article goes deeper into these. Thus those who want to make a imprint on the industry as the article states is going to be increasingly difficult because ''even the most sincere expressions of self will have to be multiple and complicated''.

Miley Cyrus Voted Worse Celeberity Influence by Teenagers (2009 & 2010) - 1 views

  •
I found this interesting how Miley Cyrus managed to win the title of the worst celebrity influence in both 2009 and 10, yet in comparison to now, (in my opinion) she was probably a better influence then than what she is now. Though that is another interesting aspect oft his link. Considering the publicity stunts Cyrus has pull so far this year, will she win that title again for 2013? Or will it be the complete opposite? I feel that she deserves the title, but it's likely that she won't get it. Her sudden surge in popularity might actually take her off the 'worst celebrity influence' list completely.

LYRIC PREMIERE: Britney Spears "Perfume" - 0 views

  •
"...The song, the second that fans will hear from Britney Spears upcoming album Britney Jean, is a personal ballad that was co-written by Britney and Sia Furler, and produced by will.i.am. Britney has admitted that much of her new album was inspired by her break-up with ex-fiancé Jason Trawick, so the subject matter of "Perfume" shouldn't surprise you. It's an emotionally powerful song about jealousy and self-doubt... " I found these lyrics interesting because it seems the narrator of the song is aware their sig. other is cheating on them, but rather than "take action" and address the situation, the narrator uses more subtle actions and ultimately, damages herself. While one can appreciate Spears' attempt to encompass a large amount of deeper emotions, I personally believe this deters from feminism; these lyrics causes the woman to become the submissive in yet another aspect of life and seem like the cause of all issues.

PETA's Interesting Take on Katy Perry's Roar - 1 views

  •
I find it interesting that PETA is criticizing Perry for her use of animals, although she had done it safely, when they are free and willing to sexualize women as if it wasn't harming gender.
  •
I have to disagree with you here I think this is terrible that Katy perry would agree to do this. The article is correct when it says animal acting is abusive, and stressful on any animal. I feel like Katy Perry put her fame and success over the welfare of animals because she is not only condoning animal acting she is promoting it as safe. Can you tell me more about how PETA are willing to sexualize women are you referring to the naked campaigns?

Though perhaps this video will never exceed the others viewed in this class in overall complexity, I figured I had to introduce you all to this as it is on its ways to becoming a pop culture phenomenon much like Psy's Gangnam Style. That and it's also legit and sounds awesome. Enjoy!
  •
I saw this circulating on Facebook earlier this week. So strange!
  •
Saw this video yesterday for the first time. I have to say it is very catchy and I agree how it is like Gangnam Style and becoming suddenly popular! Thank you for posting this!

Lily Allen 'Hard Out Here' - 0 views

  •
The video and an article on Billboard about Lily Allen's new song. The video is really interesting and relevant to what we've been discussing as Allen calls out industry sexism in the lyrics and has a reference to Robin Thicke's 'Blurred Lines' video.
  •
I love this song and video, when I saw it I though Lily's back!! It seems she has taken a few years away to really see the industry for what it is and has come up with this song that addresses everything thats wrong it. My favourite line is 'if you can't detect the sarcasm then your misunderstood!'. I have so much respect for Lily Allen as an artist because her songs always tell it how it is, and she doen't feel the need to take her clothes off ( eg Miley Cyrus). This song reminds me of The Fear when she sings 'i'll take my clothes of and it will be shameless, because everyone knows that's how you get famous".

Why We Still Are Not Goo Goo For Lady Gaga - 1 views

  •
I found this article interesting not only because we have been discussing Lady Gaga as a class but this article was literally posted yesterday stating how Lady Gaga's new song isn't something to brag about and as a culture we will move on once the next shiny object appears... (Perhaps Miley???)

Katy Perry as Guest DJ on Apple iTunes Radio - 0 views

  •
Apple recently released a radio program similar to that of Pandora, another online radio service. While Pandora uses mathematical algorithms to choose music for the listener, iTunes Radio will use humans/Apple geniuses to choose music similar to tracks the listener likes. Katy Perry is featured as the guest DJ currently, where she shares an insight to her musical taste and artists that inspire her. She inserts her commentary and shares an anecdote occasionally. I found this interesting because a good portion of the music she chooses to play are rap songs or songs with a darker undertone, not what most people would expect perhaps?

Taylor Swift Releases New Song "Sweeter Than Fiction" - 0 views

  •
Here is an article that includes a recording of a new song by Taylor Swift: "Sweeter Than Fiction." According to the author, the song will be included in an upcoming British movie called "One Chance," (which I found comical, since it's like One Direction and, well, you know) and was released on iTunes at midnight. Obviously, it was made for the film; it doesn't sound like a typical Swift song (although the lyrics contradict this claim, I'm focusing on the overall sound). Take a listen!
