Article that reviews "Katy Perry: Part of Me"

This is an old article on when Katy Perry was named woman of the year back in 2012. I found this article interesting though because in her speech Perry makes statements saying that she isn't a Feminist but she believes in strong women. The author of the article also states that Perry was named Woman of the Year because she has been quiet and doesn't make any complaints.

This was mentioned in the article about the Katy Perry Movie. It's pretty amusing and gives you a closer look at some of the lyrics to "Last Friday Night". 

I laughed a few times while reading this. I enjoyed the line by line analysis and completely agree with the overall message he was trying to get across.

Oh, come on! This is ridiculous. I feel like these critics are just looking for something to complain about; if she was "endorsing" a healthier drink, I'm sure they wouldn't praise her for it. It's really unfortunate that people feel the need to nitpick at celebrities for small things such as this. At this rate, these critics might as well attack Bruce Willis for eating a twinkie and getting caught on camera doing so. How pathetic!

Katy Perry recently sign to be the new face for CoverGirl Cosmetics. In this article, Katy Perry claims that beside music, make up is an avenue of self expression. She continues to motivate others with her personality and values.

This music video of Katy Perry with Elmo relates to the Gayle Rubin reading because the reaction to it is a clear example of the fear associated with showing children "too sexual" images. Because the video received so much backlash from adults and parents calling Katy Perry's outfit too revealing for children, Sesame Street opted not to air it.

I found this video kind of creepy actually, and it's not because I'm concerned that Katy Perry is "too sexual," but rather because with her chasing Elmo around, combined with the lyrics, it seems kind of predatory. But this is an excellent example of the cultural drive to keep sexuality away from kids.

I find it interesting that PETA is criticizing Perry for her use of animals, although she had done it safely, when they are free and willing to sexualize women as if it wasn't harming gender.

I have to disagree with you here I think this is terrible that Katy perry would agree to do this. The article is correct when it says animal acting is abusive, and stressful on any animal. I feel like Katy Perry put her fame and success over the welfare of animals because she is not only condoning animal acting she is promoting it as safe. Can you tell me more about how PETA are willing to sexualize women are you referring to the naked campaigns?

Ignore the headline; E! News likes to over exaggerate and produce false headlines to attract attention. Whedon does not "call out" Katy Perry in a derogatory sense, he just uses a phrase she said as an example to demonstrate his point. This is an interesting viewpoint, worth watching. The guy is pretty funny, too!

I love Joss Whedon and all the shows/films he creates and part of that is because of his views on equality and how that translates to his shows. BUT, I read some interesting blog posts about about him that viewed his ideologies as patronising and ignorant. Whilst I don't agree and think he's just trying to do his bit, I think it's interesting to see other perspectives on what Whedon has to say.

I personally viewed this article just as a reminder of the "meaning" and purpose of feminism and how celebrities fit into the feminist movement, if they do, how, and why.

Apple recently released a radio program similar to that of Pandora, another online radio service. While Pandora uses mathematical algorithms to choose music for the listener, iTunes Radio will use humans/Apple geniuses to choose music similar to tracks the listener likes. Katy Perry is featured as the guest DJ currently, where she shares an insight to her musical taste and artists that inspire her. She inserts her commentary and shares an anecdote occasionally. I found this interesting because a good portion of the music she chooses to play are rap songs or songs with a darker undertone, not what most people would expect perhaps?

A discussion of Katy Perry's comment that she is not a feminist that she made while accepting the Billboard Woman of the Year award. Really, this article uses the comment to discuss feminism in women's pop music as a whole.

The world knows her either as a talented, down to earth country star or as a clingy, possibly even "slutty" celebrity with a long trail of boyfriends behind her. Similarly to Katy Perry: Part of Me, this film shows both the highlights and lowlights of being Taylor Swift both now and before anyone knew her name.
